After a so-so episode last week, they really started the finale in top form. Have not ready anything on the thread yet, but wanted to log in on one observation: "Territoire Defense" They keep calling it the "Dark Territory/ Dark Area". It's more ominous than that. "The Forbidden Zone" as in "Defense d' Entrer" "Entrance Prohibited". If the guardian spirit (or monster) is protecting the island, careful where you chose to tread. This is why I really like CFL's explanation for the big roaring thing. It would also help say why they don't see it all the time. It has a main area that it is protecting and if you are new to the place (so it needs to let you know it is there) or if you stray into the wrong area, it lets you know.

I also liked the explanation for the big roaring thing. It was detailed enough to satisfy our castaways temporarily. But not so detailed for us fans that we couldn't speculate some more!
I just want to give some kudos to the writers for giving us a couple of payoffs in this episode that I didn't think we would get for a while.
Specifically, Sawyer's gift to Jack was wonderful to see. I didn't that would happen for years, if at all. Perfect placement in the episode and character development.
But what I really loved was the Jin/Sun moments. The writers did a wonderful job of resolving and not resolving it at the same time. I really needed to see more of what Jin has been thinking to really care about them. Jin really believes that his karma for his sins caused the crash or caused him and Sun to be on the island. That would explain much of his mood. I wonder how many of the other survivors feel the same?
And, I have to say it is nice to see Daniel Dae Kim getting a chance to really act. I keep seeing him in small roles in other movies and television shows. He's really better than would be suggested by most of the roles he's had previously.

And now we have Jackstory... James What? Bolt? To my ear after filtering out the Aussie accent it sounded like "James Ford", may be wrong. Any other guesses? James Ford is what I heard, too.

Let's see: 1) Jin should have stayed with his wife, now that he has something worth staying for. I don't care if he thinks he can save her this way. He's gonna die, and I'm gonna be mad.2) I don't have much else that's new. Loved the Jack/Sawyer moment, but who didn't, and I only had eyes for Jin.... Do you think because Jin had a moment of clarity (like Boone did) that he's going to die? I hope not. He looked mighty purty with his slightly longer and curlier hair. I don't feel he will die because they haven't really concentrated on his story all that much lately. It's just that I expect to be "Jossed" - the lovers realize they're (still) in love, and finally get that kiss you've been waiting for all season - and then one of them dies horribly in the next episode. And frankly, Alias has taught me that JJ Abrams can out-Joss Joss, at times.

For so long I think he was tinged with my rememberance of him as that dirty scoundrel on Angel. I hope he stays too! Also, and I know I risk virtual stoning by certain members, but I think Sawyer should keep his shirt on. I don't think he has the upper body for it. Something about his shoulders being too slopey.

Oh, can I say I hate Azrhyhh whatever his name is for his "never tell a secret to a fat guy" crack? I hope the island eats him. Grr. Not that it improves things much, but I think it was "THE fat guy". Meaning Hurley in insensitive junior high science/gym teacher speak. I agree--I think his offensive comment was directly referring to Hurley, not overweight folks in general. His little primer to Jack on how to handle the dynamite was kinda funny, though.

Actors and writers really delivered last night, and particularly in the two scenes mentioned. Sawyer telling Jack about his dad and the moments between Jin and Sun. And really, it was a realistic time for such sudden breadthroughs in communication. Raft people leaving with an uncertain future. Island people facing the threat of the "others". Each group realizing - this is it! We're moving - splitting up - taking action - things are really changing and we may not see each other again.

Woah! Walt backstory? Does that mean we're gonna see him go all "send him out into the corn field" on the Others? CFL!! I love Danielle. She's so . . . her. And they think they should HIDE in the mysterious glowy bunker tattooed with the numbers of DOOM?! Yeah, that's not a recipe for disaster. The actress was on AMC last night and this afternoon in The Verdict with Paul Newman. Much younger. Very Hepburnish

I watched this clip a couple of times, and just didn't notice anything unusual. I mean - yes, if you look closely you can detect signs of what seems to be breathing, but it didn't seem like anything outside what could easily be attributed to the fact that the actor needs to breathe. At least, that's how it struck me, but I might be missing something - not looking in the right spot or some such thing. I have concentration problems. God, I was soooo bad at a long boring meeting today. I tried so hard to keep track of the conversation but I missed every other sentence, and I suddenly realized that I had unconsciously and openly doodled this whole page of stuff while others were talking . . . so don't go by me and my sometimes not-so-keen observiness. *Hug* Spring... Have I told you recently that I appreciate you so very, very much? No? Well... here I am doing htat. *smile* You have a very full life and yet you manage to do so much here for us and are always so apologetic when you can't give your usual 120%and it drops to a measly 95%. You are extremely so keen/observy girl! It shows in all your writings and hte thoughtful suggestions you contribute. As far as Ethan breathing, wehn i tried to download the clip it kept telling me that hte file was corrupted. So.. who knows!? Vlad Hugs, back! And thank you!

Yes. Communication being the key. Love that. Of course, communication is going to cause a lot of trouble - as in 'why the heck are they listening to the CFC'? Oh yes, let' follow the crazy lady to the black smoke, rock, and whereever else she's leading them to. Oh yeah, the dynomite. However, Jack gave Sawyer that loaded gun very privately! I am willing to bet that Jin nor Michael have any idea of it's existance. Sometimes selective communication is still the best thing. I personally trust Sawyer to use it correctly (or as correctly as either of hte two other hotheads sharing that raft with him are likely to ) Vlad I loved Sawyer's line about taking the kid out of his misery. #rofl2#

Or else they're out at sea and they run into that time travel ship from WWII that Vlad was talking about. Anyone else thinking that as they keep uncovering move of the "hatch" it's starting to look more and more like a part of something else? Like a tower on a battle ship or a conning tower on a submarine? Imagine a time traveling battleship (or submarine) moving from its original time and space to the later dimension and ending up rematerializing in the middle of a hill formation. Stuck there in a kind of limbo until dug up in this dimension of time. Hmmm, something to think about. We've referenced before other science fiction works that have echoes in the series. I'm reminded of Michael Crichton's "Time Frame" and issues of time travel in that novel. But that was not his first brush with the subject. In "Sphere", there was a strange time travelling space ship under the ocean (never totally explained in the book) and a related sphere that seemed to have a power to manifest various objects that related to individuals dreams and fears also to take control of crew members in a violent manner a la The Shining. I wonder what our castaways will find if they succeed in opening the hatch? I agree though that it makes no sense to blow the bunker or whatever it is open and then expect to be able to use it as a stronghold against the others.

If this was Wednesday, you would have to be stoned for heresy for that Sawyer comment. But since it's Thursday, we'll let it slide. . . just this once! Jin isn't a bad guy, I don't think. He was very screwed up an in over his head, but the tough-guy persona is breaking down now. And he's a good-looking guy, something I never noticed when I saw him on AtS. I think the more casual atmosphere and clothes - and of course, the less than 100% evil character - flatter him much more.

Someone made this comment earlier in this thread - Lola, I think . . . that the hatch might be a hatch to a submarine. I imagine they will find some kind of artifacts of those who were there before. That old ship - it begged the question "how did it get there?" So that hatch could be anything.

Hey, everybody. Thanks for all the welcomes. You have some really interesting ideas about the characters and storylines.
I'm curious about Ana-Lucia who met up with Jack at the airport bar. She must fit into all this somehow. Something intriguing - Lucia was one of the children from Fatima who saw the Virgin Mary. Think that fits in somehow???

I believe Locke has a "special" connection with the island in that the island's "security system", aka unseen monster thing, didn't kill him when it had the chance. Also, Locke realized the island could take away his power to walk when he and Boone came across the plane. I think the island did that so he wouldn't go up there or else he would have been the one to die. The island needs Locke. *Cue the Twilight Zone music*
