Copied from the "Water" thread. Thanks, Just Willow! Apollo was just so . . . Apollo in this one. When he's got the guy at gun point and is all . . . you're gonna tell your men to drop their guns and volunteer to earn their freedom and then . . . we'll have elections. And the other guy is just totally flabbergasted. I love a good flabbergast. Lola Yep. I loved Apollo in this one. And Richard Hatch is so good as the terrorist. I think he had lost all hope and really did want a blood bath. Apollo was just so.....just. Loved it. Loved it. Also loved the friction between Lee and his father. I'm going to love watching their relationship. But how about Starbuck and that older guy. (I so need to study up on names.) Some sparkage, do you think? I gotta tell you, for some reason, that's hot. And did I see some kind of relationship beginning between the president and Apollo? I like that! You go Madam president! Poor Boomer. I think she is really going to need that connection to her boyfriend in order to resist the Cylon programming. What's going to happen now that she has been ordered to stay away from him? Still very confused as to what's going on with that couple on the planet. And the doctor and his hallucinations? Yee! Loved Billy and the crush he has on the black girl. Of course they have different philosophies -what fun would it be if they thought alike?

This episode was not as good as the first two in my opinion. I think I just wasn't captured (ha!) by the subject matter - and also....not much cylon business.
And, I would have preferred the attention seeking revolutionary to have been shot. They could have still held the elections in 7 months.

Billy's Crush is also good; but, the fun between Adama and the pres along with Baltar's continuing melt-down were the tops for me. I was hoping they'd do another double episode this week because I really wanted ya'll to see the next one.. Title is "Act of Contrition." I will not spoil it; but, you're in for a real treat next week

I was quite amused that they had him playing opposite "Apollo" and you can tell that some of his personal bitterness on the whole deal is translated into the role. But he controls it well. Very well. I much liked him in this. The "angry dissident" role fits quite nicely, oddly enough..

And yes, Baltar - for a second there I thought he was going to make the break but then when she yelled and he kinda 'squeaked' and dropped his glass I laughed out loud.

..And, I would have preferred the attention seeking revolutionary to have been shot. They could have still held the elections in 7 months. Under normal circumstances, I'd agree with you.. Starbuck punching his ticket would have been pretty cool. But, I think the intent was to use this character as a recurring role. And despite the sketchy backstory, it's a strong character.

And despite the sketchy backstory, it's a strong character. Meta concerns aside, he had to show the other prisoners that they would treat them honorably, and expect honorable behavior out of them in turn: expect them to be humans, and they will act like humans. Otherwise, really ugly bloodbath, too. The only reason the prisoners surrounding him weren't killing Apollo was because they wanted their leader to live, despite his wishes for martyrdom. I thought it was remarkably flipping idiotic of them (The Galactica crewmembers) to open all the cells in a block at a time like that, though, when they were asking for volunteers.

Yep that was truly priceless. He was so far out beyond the edge that she literally reached down and grabbed him after he fell off it. I was sure Adama knew there was something excessively wrong; but, at the same time, they've got Adama so war weary that he's not fairing much better. Well played.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing; but, it's not out of character for normal prison handling in our past. Nowadays inmates wouldn't be let out en masse like that.

Everyone is all...Richard Hatch, Richard Hatch....and I don't know him from anything that I can remember...and didn't realize he was supposed to be a continuing character. I didn't like the character.... He played this guy named Apollo on this obscure late-seventies tv show named Battlestar Galactica. He was VERY active until about two and a half years ago in the effort to bring Battlestar Galactica back as a television series, continuing twenty years after the last show left off, with Apollo having suceeded his father Adama in command of the fleet. Had a long conversation with him back in '97 at my first DragonCon concerning his hopes to bring it back to the screen: he was very personable and charismatic. But they re-sold the rights to it, and it was re-imagined rather than continued as a sequel, and despite the fact that he was the largest force responsible for keeping fan faith and desires to see BSG again alive, he was cut completely out of the loop. This character was a sort of olive branch from the BSG people to him, to involve him in the new show. I can't really imagine him playing any role on it that is much different from a bitter and dissilusioned idealist who has seen his dreams perverted. Sorta fitting, really. THAT was why the scenes with him and Apollo were so... interesting. And why we are all "Richard Hatch! Richard Hatch!!" ;D

Everyone is all...Richard Hatch, Richard Hatch....and I don't know him from anything that I can remember...and didn't realize he was supposed to be a continuing character. I didn't like the character.... I read an article in the Tribune right before I watched the episode that had me sympathetic to Hatch. He had tried for years to get a continuation of the original program on the air and at one time even used his own money to produce a trailer. He was also very vocally critical of the re-imagined series. In 2003, Hatch was heading up a BSG (the old series) 25th anniversary celebration (Yes!People really do go to those! I was surprised, too!) and had invited Moore (the creator of the new BSG) to speak. The crowd was very rude. They didn't like that Boomer and Starbuck were now women and that the Cylons weren't toasters. IT wasn't canon, you know! Anyway, Hatch stepped in and said: "My people, silence." (LOL!) give the guy a chance. This isn't what I would've done, but give him a chance." Hatch had realized that his version of BSG just wasn't going to happen, and he didn't want to be a thorn in their side anymore. Of course, he probably was just wanting to breathe some life into his career, like Matthew said, but I thought the whole story was kind of neat. He was later asked to guest star. The new BSG is much darker. I like it alot better, but I wasn't really a big fan of the old series. I liked Hatch's character because I like watching people who have been in a real dark place try to redeem themselves (Angel), and I like to try to figure out what it is that moves people to forgive, give their fallen fellow creatures hope and let them try. Hatch's character went from wanting a bloodbath to tears of hope in his eyes. I really liked that. I would've been pissed if Starbuck had gotten that shot off.

You know, I don't think that they would've even thought about having elections and would've just kept the same president. And then if she had died because of her cancer, there would've been chaos - IMO. But I do know how you feel. He (Zarek) wasn't a very sympathetic character to half the survivors, but the other half saw him as a freedom fighter. Perspective, anyone?
