He played this guy named Apollo on this obscure late-seventies tv show named Battlestar Galactica. He was VERY active until about two and a half years ago in the effort to bring Battlestar Galactica back as a television series, continuing twenty years after the last show left off, with Apollo having suceeded his father Adama in command of the fleet. Had a long conversation with him back in '97 at my first DragonCon concerning his hopes to bring it back to the screen: he was very personable and charismatic. But they re-sold the rights to it, and it was re-imagined rather than continued as a sequel, and despite the fact that he was the largest force responsible for keeping fan faith and desires to see BSG again alive, he was cut completely out of the loop. This character was a sort of olive branch from the BSG people to him, to involve him in the new show. I can't really imagine him playing any role on it that is much different from a bitter and dissilusioned idealist who has seen his dreams perverted. Sorta fitting, really. THAT was why the scenes with him and Apollo were so... interesting. And why we are all "Richard Hatch! Richard Hatch!!" ;D You met Richard Hatch? How cool! Do you think any of our Buffy people will be fighting against a re-imagined BTVS in 20 years? I hope I'm around to see it. LOL!

yeah, there is so much sexual tension between Starbuck and the alcoholic that I was surprised they didn't just have at there... LOL! I bet they would've if there had been alcohol in those shots, and if that guy wasn't such an ass. Hmmm. Maybe he was an ass because he knew that what he felt for Starbuck was wrong.

I really liked Hatch in this role. Billy's Crush is also good; but, the fun between Adama and the pres along with Baltar's continuing melt-down were the tops for me. I was hoping they'd do another double episode this week because I really wanted ya'll to see the next one.. Title is "Act of Contrition." I will not spoil it; but, you're in for a real treat next week Tease! I can't wait for it. Baltar's meltdown is funny to watch. But he's a little weasely-coward-Dr.Smith from Lost in Space type. I don't like him....yet.

Meta concerns aside, he had to show the other prisoners that they would treat them honorably, and expect honorable behavior out of them in turn: expect them to be humans, and they will act like humans. Otherwise, really ugly bloodbath, too. The only reason the prisoners surrounding him weren't killing Apollo was because they wanted their leader to live, despite his wishes for martyrdom. I thought it was remarkably flipping idiotic of them (The Galactica crewmembers) to open all the cells in a block at a time like that, though, when they were asking for volunteers. Yeah, I was really surprised at how easily the BSG crew were overtaken, but then again they weren't prison warrens and were only schooled in space combat, not hand to hand - really gritty personal combat. Oh, except for the chicks - who I guess were taught to bite their attacker's ears off. I wonder what the ratio of men to women are on the ship.

Do you suppose there's going to be any change in social structure due to the fact that they're "humanity's last hope"? I mean, there's so much concerned about the population that the President is keeping a running head count. What's up with having the potential baby-makers go into combat? If there's 45000 souls aboard and 44000 of them are women, it's much easier to repopulate the species with 44000 women and 1000 really tired men than the other way around. Or something...

I'm sure the female/ baby thing is going to come into play. We've already seen signs of it. The attempted rape last night being one. That old commander's warning to Boomer. And wasn't there a conversation on the planet about babies between the 2 Cylons there? Something. I'll have to rewatch. I was especially creeped out my #6's (is that her name?) comment to Baltar about making a baby together in a previous episode. *rubs hands together* It's going to get fun! ;D

And, yes. That #6 comment WAS creeepy!

well, we'll see it! And yes, Baltar - for a second there I thought he was going to make the break but then when she yelled and he kinda 'squeaked' and dropped his glass I laughed out loud. I am really enjoying watching Baltar fall completely to pieces.

Nice review, Havoc.
I liked your deft summary of the main duets/duals / duels: Roslin and Adama, Adama and Apollo, Apollo and Zareck, Tigh and Starbuck, Adama and Baltar. In particular, the scenes between Adama and Roslin and those between Apollo and Zareck were very strong.
Apollo is his own man, with his own beliefs - and he will stand up for those beliefs. Something tells me his father will get a much greater opportunity to learn what his son is really all about in the weeks to come.
You said it well with: ;D
Liked the way you brought the analogy to the original storming of the Bastille. And I agree with everyone who is finding the Baltar story particularly intriguing. His mental disintegration as #6 pulls the puppet string, his growing importance and opportunity to betray, the antagonism with Adama evan as the man can't find a reason not to continue to work with him. Gonna be fun times ahead for all us viewers!
Thanks for the review, Havoc.

Gotta work out them frustrations one way or another and I sure can't tell you what's comin up LOL. 10-4 on the Baltar/Dr. Smith comparison. I never liked lost in space, much less Dr. Smith; but, Baltar I kinda like and dislike at the same time. It's a fun character just for the abuse we get to see him justly put through lol

I thus far have enjoyed writing them, though, with family things going on this past week, was a little more of a rush job than I would have preferred. Review was already written; but, I didn't get to spend as much time on my re-write as I normally do. So, I was concerned a bit. The next one will get substantially more TLC and I'm already working on the touch ups on it. The previews for this week have been playing pretty regularly; but, I wish they'd get a better bloody time-slot for the show. 10pm is a bit nuts.
