Basestar. That bed isn't at all... jarring in that setting. And it's a very pretty bed, too. Although I'm still bummed that the only 3some I'm being given included Baltar. I mean, damn, we couldn't have an Apollo/Helo/Starbuck sandwich? Or Sharon/Dualla/Gaeta? **goes to happy place** Very creepy. I really love all the stuff on the Cylon ship this ep. All the mystical musings and the moment when the Cylon guiding the ship grabbed Baltar and that stuff? So very cool! Plus, interesting possibilities for the future - what with all the stuff she said to him. ;D ;D ;D 0 You are one with the flow of the story. The story is you, you are the story. Metaphor is good. Fiction is good. Plot does not depend on facts. Just keep mumbling the mantra . . . ;D

Interesting set of previouslies... Very interesting. A strong theme of "addiction". As well he should be. Sharon was the first heroine - flying this alone, the first time, to find out what was there and if it could be done. And not really knowing if Cylons could survive. Lot's of warm reds and oranges - fire imagery. Nicely contrasting the blues and cool whites of the Cylon scenes. Very much so, on the "addiction" theme. Addiction to approval, addiction to drugs, addiction to the rush of seeing..."the face of God" so to speak, in the downloading... Huh. What happened to Enzo? What did Kat do with him other than frak him? Anything?

Written by Jane Espenson! Ooooh, I didn't notice that! No wonder the human relationships were done so well. And we had a noble, self-sacrificing heroine. Actually, bookend pairs of them. And that we had that lovely lovely lovely scene where Adama and Tigh just snap and laugh and laugh and laugh and giggle like schoolkids. Not to mention the excellently done moments of Tigh trying to get up the courage to come back on deck and the multiple layers of feeling about him once he was there.

There it is... and now it's gone. And her badge is black. Oooh, that's not a good sign with radiation poisoning, what with the puking. Total of nine pilots. "paper shortage" gallows humor. It would be nice if Starbuck were her hero... "faces of the final five"? so the hybrid isn't one of them? He wants to be a cylon now. So he's gonna go along with her fool-ass suicide plan, trying to see what, or if he is? I can't decide if he really wants to be one (although his explanation actually makes a weird sort of desparation sense - so that he would not be a traitor to his people, but really a hero, and that he'd have a place there) or if he's still just working all the angles. That was a great line. And nicely matched by the scene in her hospital bed when she still tries to tell him. Honorable.

So they are going to the oracle.... What is he doing? Hee!!! as she grabs him and TALKS to him. "eye of the husband of the eye of the cow" That would be Zeus' eye. Said "Zeus" in the captioning, though she said "Jupiter" Star maps, and a connection between the gods. Interesting who Three seemed to be including in that "we" and "our" Very interesting. As was the line the pilot had about him being the one who's touch burns, or something like that. The line about "sleeping pills - enough . . . " was nicely done. And even more for just sitting with her, telling her stories and being there as she dies. **nods**

Yes, that was effectively creepy: if this is how the pilots are getting treated, what must it be like for a regular Joe Nebbish? I wondered the same thing, but from what Kat said, I don't think the pilots were treated any better. Such an awesome episode. Not the funny we normally get from JE, but more like her serious Buffy eps, like "After Life". Very moving. Very moving. And even though there were plenty of action sequences, lots of excellent quiet moments.

I wonder if maybe Enzo just . . . wandered off to see what other scams he could run on someone else, once she was a lost cause? Or is that just me being very pessimistic?

Okay. finally saw the full scene with the BaseStar hybrid. (a friend called in the middle of the last run). So there's a planet hidden in all that mess? Okay, that explains all the focus on the intensity of the illumination in the star cluster. And I suppose the washed-out pilots are more visually arresting than darkened or shielded viewports...
And we know from Sharon that the cylons can take the radiation a bit better than the original humans, so they'll have less of an issue, possibly..

humans, cylons: we're all just trying to discover who we are, aren't we?
Kat assumed some one else's identity. she was a drug runner, trucker. So she never had any flight experience.
Cylon runner? hmm.
You're just not smart enough to accept who you are.

Part IV I need to write down the bits the hybrid says. So Leoben touched the hydrid as well, then? Hera. Hee. Three says Jupiter, but the closed captions say Zeus. Could there be a connection between their gods and ours? 5. The hand. The Cylons are gonna meet up with the humans on their restocking trip. Kat looks like shit. Nice ass shots. Feru Sadin. Hoshi. Good for you Kat. 'cept now you're gonna die. Oh, I guess she's gonna pull through. Kat's gonna be CAG again. Knocking Lee out of place? Adama adopting another daughter. Wife: Caroline. Why Adama loves his daughters. So I guess there are some middle positions in the Pilot hierarchy. I didn't realize it worked that way. So Kat died anyway?

I didn't really detect anything distinctly Jane Espenson in this episode, though there is such a consistency in episodes on Battlestar Galactica usually that it's hard to tell each writers individual style, which is really good. There was much more variability on Buffy.
I'm also confused as to how much time has passed between this episode and the past 2.
And there's another new episode next week, so we're getting 22 episodes this season?
ETA: So, the twop recaplet mentioned that the episode was about food, which seems to be a Jane Espenson motif. Heh.
