Although I'm still bummed that the only 3some I'm being given included Baltar. I mean, damn, we couldn't have an Apollo/Helo/Starbuck sandwich? Or Sharon/Dualla/Gaeta? Seriously, though I was thinking more of Helo/Sharon/Tyrol. Is Baltar that great of a lover? What's the attraction? Because I think I would want to take a disinfectant bath if I touched him.

BSG newbie here. Firstly, please forgive my ignorance!
With Jane Espenson scripts, aside from food being a key element in many of her stories, I also look for word play. There wasn't a whole lot of it, but I did really enjoy the "paper shortage" exchange. As Matthew said, nice gallows humor--the perfect touch in the midst of a dire crisis.
Was the previous episode (the one with the boxing matches) sort of a big reset button for Starbuck and Apollo? Did their fight eradicate the sexual tension between them? As Liz stated, it was hard to tell how much time had passed between this episode and the two prior. When Apollo walked up behind Starbuck as she was putting Kat's picture on the wall, Starbuck seemed to sense his presence. I thought that was nice touch.
What a great show! I just wanted to rave about it a bit. I feel, in a way, like my eyes have been opened.

I mean, yeah, Caprica is in love with him, but why the Xena woman? Just because she is also fascinated with humans and their mysteries? Just because it's sex and, well, maybe the Cylons just like having sex and so why not? Granted, we've got more reason to find Baltar icky than they do, so . . . .

They spout off and then that releases a lot of heat and so they calm down for a while, on the surface. But underneath . . . ;D Welcome to the wonderful/painful world of BSG! I always enjoy hearing folks rave about it.

No time, now, but - coupla things I really loved:
"Paper shortage". I knew it was a joke, but...hee. Waiting for Adama to realize that Tigh had actually made a funny was great. I was all, "No, really, you can laugh. It's a joke."
And the giggling was totally JE.
I also loved the star cluster, once I figured out what the deal was. So few space shows ever delve into anything other than vast empty blackness and the occasional nebula.
What I didn't like: I dislike stories where the only way for a character to redeem themselves is through dying to save others. Kat hadn't done anything (IMO) nearly bad enough to require her to redeem herself through a horrible radiation poisoning death. And even if she had, the better way is to keep on living and paying back.

On the rewatch, what (if any) significance is there to the final scene between Kara and Apollo and the fact that it followed the scene between Kat and her drug-running supplier boyfriend, Enzo? She said something to him, that made me think of the Apollo/Kara relationship.
Something like he was "always taking something from her".

I can't decide if he really wants to be one (although his explanation actually makes a weird sort of desparation sense - so that he would not be a traitor to his people, but really a hero, and that he'd have a place there) or if he's still just working all the angles. I was reading it both way when I listened to him. If he finds out he's NOT a cylon, he might be able to find a way to help the fleet, what with currently being in the belly of the beast, as it were. Then he can be a hero to the humans. And if he finds out that he IS a cylon, continuing to help them find Earth makes him a hero to the cylons. Either way, he wins and whatever shred of conscience he has left is assuaged. I find him oddly compelling. Not in a "doable" kind of way, but I'm very curious about his story.

Very much so, on the "addiction" theme. Addiction to approval, addiction to drugs, addiction to the rush of seeing..."the face of God" so to speak, in the downloading... Huh. What happened to Enzo? What did Kat do with him other than frak him? Anything? **nods** I forgot the addiction to downloading. I wonder if maybe Enzo just . . . wandered off to see what other scams he could run on someone else, once she was a lost cause? Or is that just me being very pessimistic? There's crime gangs out there. Remember the dude Apollo busted in S1, who was trading kids?

I want to know more. He still makes my skin crawl, however.

He just needs to shave and wash his hair more often. And, you know, develop some human-oriented morals.

When I realized they were going to lionize her and then have her die, I felt the same kind of frustration and raging disappointment I did at the end of Thelma and Louise (but without the tears and the swearing). Kat's smuggling and identity theft weren't nearly as horrible as what Starbuck did to Zak, IMO, and Kara didn't have to die to redeem herself for that in anybody's eyes, not even Adama's, who should have had the right to judge her the harshest. By that same standard, Baltar's redeemability factor is positively Knoxian for his part in the destruction of Caprica: he can never be dead enough.

And the possibility of Baltar's genius rubbing off on the offspring.
