By popular demand (well, SOMEONE asked) we bring you to the penultimate Nerd Alert. As the episodes dwindle down to a precious two, we wonder what will happen to our heroes.
This is your opportunity vent. What are you afraid of? Do you fear that Wes will succumb to Illyria? Are you afraid Lorne will run out of Seabreeze? That none of Spike's new coats will fit him? Or that Joss will let us down?
While we're on the subject, what do you WANT to happen? We know we don't have time to tie up all the threads, but this is the place to air which threads must be tied--and which can be cut.
Here, my fellow Nerds, is your forum. As always, spelling doesn't count, but originality, imagination and honesty do.

Ok, I'll break the ice and start one. (Although that always scares me with nerd alerts 'cuz then everyone else posts ones much smarter and better than me and if I had waited I could have semi-plagiarized and sort of saved my reputation. Oh who am I kidding, I have no reputation to save.) Fears. Big one is that Joss will be totally evil ('cuz he is) and kill off a bunch of the gang or even.......gasp.......all of them. But a little fear would be that Illyria turns out to be the real enemy and they have to take her down ('cuz I want her to work with Angel and crew). Now on to the fun stuff - the hopes. Nothing too outrageous. Really. ;D I'd like Lorne to open another karaoke nightclub - but with a Western theme, 'cuz I want to see him wear a 10 gallon hat and rhinestone shirt. I'd like to see Lindsay return and fight with someone with his shirt off again. I mean Lindsay has his shirt off ....... I mean they could both have their shirt off if he fought Spike. And he gets the sexy runes back. I want to see the Apocalypse they are soaking in - and I want that Apocalypse to be green and soapy, yet leave their hands feeling soft. I want someone to Shanshu - and I might like it to be Harmony, if she also gets a complete shoe wardrobe at the same time. Tons of Mephistos and Manolo Blahnics and etc etc I want to have some feeling that Spike will have at least the possibility of being happy. Someday. Have a purpose, a place in the world where he is loved and needed. Lola

Here’s how the finale should go:Angel loses his soul after making love to Nina late one afternoon at Nina’s place. Full moon is expected that night. Angelus is so ecstatic to be free again, that he forgets his agreement with Nina to make sure she gets caged before sundown! He doesn’t feed on the sleeping Nina because he had deliberately drunk gallons of fresh warm blood prior to sex (for obvious reasons) and he still feels really full. He naturally waits until sundown to leave the house, but Wolf-Nina grabs him. A really great Werewolf vs. Vampire fight ensues. Wolf-Nina subdues Angelus and puts him in her cage. In the morning, Nina finds him pacing in the cage, and realizes from the fact that he acts all guilt-free and lively that this is Angelus. She calls Spike and they trick Angelus into going to Africa to fight for his soul by telling him that he’ll be fighting for a year’s supply of young nuns’ blood. He is all happy when he wins, but surprise, he gets his soul instead! And now he is free from the gypsy curse. He is very grateful to Nina and Spike. He asks Nina to marry him, and Spike to be his best man at the wedding. Both agree. They have the wedding at W&H. Unfortunately, they have allowed Ilyria to be the wedding planner, and the colors are blue and blue. Gunn and Wes serve as ushers, asking each invitee: “Wolf’s side, or Vamp’s side?” as they enter the room. Harmony is really pissed that she didn’t get to plan the wedding, but she agrees to be the maid of honor, since that means she gets to wear a really sexy strapless blue dress and walk back down the aisle with a tuxedoed Spike on her arm. Nina’s nephew serves as ring bearer, and the little girl from the White Room is the flower girl. Lorne performs the ceremony and cries throughout. At the reception, he sings “Werewolves of London” for Angel & Nina’s first dance – accompanied by two sexy female back-up singers and a full orchestra. Buffy shows up late and alone, because naturally, The Immortal wasn’t invited. She finds Angel dancing the first dance with Nina, and Spike & Harmony drunk on champagne and naked and having wild sex out by the dumpster - which really pisses her off, because that was her & Spike’s special place. She goes back to the reception and finds she has been seated with Giles, Xander, Willow, Dawn, Oz and Andrew, who had arrived in LA days before. The first dance is over and everyone is waiting on the best man to deliver his toast before dinner is served. Spike finally shows up with his clothes in disarray and a giggly Harmony behind him. “You're not friends,” he says in a slur to the bride and groom, lifting his 10th glass of champagne. “You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other till it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children. It’s blood - blood screaming inside you to work its will. Angel may be love's bitch, but at least he’s finally man enough to admit it.” Harmony claps loudly 'cause she is so proud of her Blondie Bear, and Spike gives her a sloppy kiss in front of everyone. Angel and Nina also kiss, while Buffy gets more steamed than ever at Spike, because that was her & Angel’s special speech. Angel and Nina leave for their honeymoon, while everyone throws kibble at them. Spike & Harmony walk off all giggly together, talking about how Harmony should also go try to get her soul in Africa. Gunn has hooked up with both of Lorne’s back-up singers and the three of them leave arm in arm to paint the town red. Wes & Ilyria eye each other skeptically, feeling kind of romantic despite themselves, due to the day’s activities. Lorne approaches them to meddle, but in a good way. THE END

I'll bite for this one:
hopes:
for Angel. a good relationship with Nina (but, not too happy-making or he'll have to be staked) that's everything he needs and wants in a relationship, 'cause it turns out that Willows re-ensouling last year was permanent. a reunion with Connor, who joins Team Angel after he graduates from Stanford. a re-bonding with all the members of TA, and a deepening, fun, and simultaneously respectful relationship with Spike.
for Connor. See above.
For Spike. See above, and: the love of a good woman, who can spar with him tooth and nail, but love him like pancakes with maple syrup, respects him, and is proud to be known as "his girl" - and she loves to dance! a new haircut, the burning of the W&H replacement dusters, and makeover from those guys on Bravo. he's stopped smoking. I'd like to see him stop drinking so much, too. I think Team Angel already gives Spike respect and friendship, so one of my dreams for Spike this year came true.
Illyria: that Fred somehow emerges (for real), and melds with Illyria to make a great superheroine, but still as gentle and loving and nonjudgmental as Fred.
Wes. That he finds peace.
Gunn. That he finds peace and that he finds himself worthy of the respect he's really earned.
My fears: That there won't be a movie till I'm in my 80s and too old to go and too far aged to remember.
for the actors and the creative team? all the best, as per my last review's conclusion.

What I want for the characters:
Angel - To find the love of a good woman. Get rid of that pesky curse on his soul. I’d like to see he and Spike do more comedy and more back stories. I’d also like for him to work out a little more and not wear his shirt so often.
Spike - To find the love of a good woman. Get rid of the duster, wear some hip clothes and get a new hair-do. Keep on snarking.
Conner – Join Team Angel, love his Dad, and get his hair out of his face.
Wes – Lighten up and jump Illyria’s bones.
Gunn – Realize he’s intelligent without W/H upgrades and worth everyone’s respect.
Illyria – Become a good guy superhero and integrate more Fred into her personality.
Harmony – Tell us where we can find shoes like the ones she wears.
Generally – Have more guest spots from old characters we know.
My biggest fear - That DB will think he’s too good to play Angel again. That JM won’t get the opportunity to play Spike again.

At the end of the finale, when probably only one or two of our heroes might be left standing, I want the Powers That Be to come in and reset the board, so that Angel & The Fang Gang (Wes, Illyria, Gunn and Lorne and Spike) have another chance to continue fighting the good fight long-term. Yep, big 'ol deus ex machina, but the PTB owe Angel big-time and haven't done much for him lately. I want the Fang Gang getting a well-funded Angel Investigations set-up and going full throttle against a W&H (L.A. branch) now CEO'd by Lindsey.
I want to see more Angel & Nina romance; she's a good match for him.
I want to see more Spike & Angel The Odd Couple road trips.
A Buffy visit to REALLY clear up things, or muddle them further.
Gunn going to Law School at night or something.
Illyria discovering there is some Fred in there; Wesley connecting with both of them.
Harmony can stay at W&H....
Lorne gets CARITAS back and it doesn't blow up, at least not for a whole season....

Hope: I want a shanshu. In fact, I demand a shanshu. Confirmed. I wouldn't mind two shanshu's (and I do mean Spike and Angel, none of this Harmony business).
Fear: we won't get a shanshu. Or, one of the guys (probably Angel) will "die" with the possibility of shanshu left open but unconfirmed.
Everything else is small potatoes next to that.
Oh, yeah, and my "Wish": Spike in a tux, or blue or something.

I bandied about a bunch of things to say, but in the end realized I'd already articulated what I want out of the "Angel" finale when, in order to work through everything I was feeling after Fred became Illyria, I wrote a letter to Joss explaining why I needed Fred to come back. If you don't mind humoring me, I'll just copy/paste the last part of the letter here. After all, I spent quite a bit of time working on it--it'd be nice to think it'll be read by someone other than myself. ----------------- ...I’m not sure I can explain why it matters so very much to me that Fred ends up okay; I don’t completely understand it myself. I know in my head that, far too often, good people die just when they have the most reason to live and that sometimes a person’s pain and sacrifice is only rewarded with more pain and sacrifice. I know life is rarely fair and that what goes around does not always, in fact, come around. In my head, I know all of this. But in my heart, I need to believe otherwise. I need to believe the proverbial light in the proverbial tunnel isn’t always the proverbial freakin’ train. I need to believe that, somehow, how we live matters, that fighting for what we believe in matters, that trying to do the right thing matters. I need to believe life isn’t always about loss and misery and suffering. I don’t think I can handle a world, even if it’s fictional, where someone like Fred—someone so essentially good in the truest sense of the word—fights so hard and survives so much only to have it all be for nothing but an agonizing and purposeless death. ---- Understand that I’m not looking for a fairy tale ending here—frankly, I wouldn’t want it. Your shows have always had too much emotional honesty to pretend life works out perfectly, which is probably why they keep getting cancelled on you. Personally, I imagine most folks who turn to fiction for those perfect happy endings—to see the good guys finish first and the bad guys receive justice, to feel the joy of soul mates finally uniting, even though we all know in our hearts life doesn’t work that way—do so in order to satisfy some sort of knee-jerk craving for escape, wish fulfillment, a hit of feel-good energy, whatever. But I also think underneath that shallow quick-fix impulse lies a true need: to believe in the possibility that sometimes real life will actually work out okay as well. When I think about it, usually in my darker moments, I gotta wonder how any of us find a way to keep going, day after day, in a world that sucks so mightily so much of the time. We constantly hear about all the ways people find to hurt each other, their loved ones, themselves, everything around them. And yet even in the midst of whatever brand of pain comes their way, most folks seem to believe that somehow, some day, there will be a moment that makes up for all of it. Even if it’s not “happily ever after” but just a fleeting glimmer of grace, unseen and unrecognized by anyone other else, it will still happen. Some get that belief from their religious faith, for better or worse. As for the rest of us, I think we can believe such moments ever happen at all, in the face of all evidence to the contrary, because they sometimes happen in our stories. Camelot did have its one brief, shining moment. Darth Vader found his way out of the dark long enough to save his son. Dorothy and Frodo both returned home. The baby named Harry Potter lived. And I think it’s because such stories can feel as real to us as everyday life, sometimes even more so, that those shreds of optimism woven into their fabric become real to us as well. Or, putting it another way: we Red Sox fans would argue we practically own the patent on disappointment, in watching the ultimate prize dance within reach only to see their dreams dashed once more (many fans are incredibly obnoxious about their long-sufferingness, but that’s a whole other essay). We make Tantalus look like he was on a Caribbean cruise. But even when that fall comes, as it seemingly always does, we also all still cling to that familiar mantra of “wait ‘til next year” with all the hope and possibility it implies. And that’s all I really need, in the end, to keep on cheering and believing: the possibility. So I need the same thing now, with Fred. Not a ride into the sunset, not declarations of eternal love. Just to have her back, to know that even if it’s not on television, there will be a next year for Winifred Burkle, as well as for the heroes she walks with—and that maybe, just maybe, it’ll be a better year too.

My fears...
that this is all he wrote. That there will be no Movie of the week, no Spike spin-off. that we'll never seen new Buffy, new Angel, new Spike on screen again.
My wishes... That Lindsey was lying and the apocolypse isn't THE apocolypse, just AN apocolyse...
That Angel shanshues and DOES go find Nina...
That Spike is given the opportunity to shanshu but decides the world still needs a vampire with a soul...and besides, Harmony needs him too.
That Ilyria releases her hold on Fred's body and Fred lives and she and Wesley go to Texas for a visit to her folks before moving to Bath, with Spike and Harmony, where they have all been asked to help Giles and Andrew.
Lorne shows up at S'cubiefest to sing a kareaoke duet with Vlad, and Gunn becomes a Watcher-trainee under Xander's supervision.
The Soulful Spike Society eventually is written up as being the longest existing fan based website in existence, and we are all interviewed at our 20th annual S'cubiefest gathering just before the movie based on us is released.

My fears That this is the end of the Buffyverse. We never get to see JM play Spike again and see how his journey REALLY ends. I'll never find another universe like this ever again that I can completely lose myself in. I'll never find a character that touches me as much as Spike has over the years. One who makes me feel the way that Spike does. Spike dies....again! My heart couldn't take it. Joss kills everyone, just so we can feel what he's feeling. Huh...Joss? Feeling it already. We never get the answers to the many questions that have been asked over the years, like: Who is going to Shanshu? The S'cubie's won't stay around once it's all over. My hopes We get a fitting end to the series. We get some sort of spin-off - especially a Spike one. Spike and Angel realise that they really are family to each other. Fred lives. Wesley and Fred live happily ever after. Spike finds happiness, whether that be with Buffy or not. As long as he's happy. The same goes for Angel, too. That he can finally stop brooding and enjoy life. That the S'cubie's carry on forever. So we can all live in Erinland, where the sun always shines. Cal

Glad you loved my "finale" Patti - I love yours too, especially that last part!! Same to all - despite the silliness of my "finale," your good thoughts are mine. If only the S'cubies ran the Jossverse - fun, sex, violence, inconsistent quality, confusion - hey, we could do it!
