Look, guys, we've done the best we could here. I'm sorry if people feel that the options aren't good, but we had to look at where people are located geographically in the greatest amount as well as what people can reasonably afford. That being said, we have 5 midwest options, 2 west options, and an eastern option.
I'm not trying to be mean here, but planning these things takes a lot of time and effort, especially for one who 1) won't be able to attend and 2) is in another country right now. Hearing how dissatisfied people are with the options available just makes me tired.

If attending is a problem for people due to finances, other commitments or location, well, that's no different than years past. It just happens to be that way. If people are going to have trouble attending they are going to have trouble attending no matter where it's held, but odds are fewer people are going to be able to make S'fest on either coast as opposed to the middle of the country. The idea is to vote for the location one would most like to have S'fest and hope that a) you can attend and b) it's held someplace that has something to offer.

I know all of you put much effort into this. I hope I get to attend this years, I would love to meet all of you in person. I am just at a toss up on a couple of places. I will pick one eventually.

I'm hoping I can attend, but if I'm not able too, I don't want my vote to sway away from a better option for everyone. Like - I'd love to go to Denver. It's not a bad drive for me, or flight for that matter. But Florida is just as good an option if I'm going to fly, for me. So..I'm for whatever the majority feels is the best for them, and then will plan accordingly, if I can. I'm so appreciative of everyone's hard work to make the 'Fest happen. What I'm trying to say is - I'm easy - but not so sure I'm going to be able to make it this year. I'm going to try really hard, tho!

Though I obviously wouldn't mind the 'Fest in Florida (especially Orlando, since I could assist with the assorted details), I voted for Chicago, mainly due to geography. I understand how choosing the midwest every year might be stagnating, but I always vote based on ensuring maximum attendance. Florida is quite a jaunt for some.
All that being said, I'm not a definite attendee this year, so I probably should have abstained. If it comes down to a tie between Chicago and somewhere else, that should probably be factored into a final decision.

I'm also bound by time constraints, finances and the possibility that spouse's health will preclude my being able to leave him for any amount of time. I hadn't considered it, but I think I could drive to Denver.

This poll is officially locked. THere will be a new poll today regarding dates, and then we will revisit the location issue with a runoff between the top vote getters.
