The Doctor's not so good with measuring time, is he? The TARDIS is also notorious for not going exactly where it's been told to go. IIRC, Tom Baker's Doctor spent months not having any control at all over his destination. The thing is an old model, clunky, always breaking down. I mean, that Chameleon Circuit's been broken forever. Although I think he keeps it that way because it has character. Pretty much. I mean, doesn't HAVE to be, but...he's clearly flirting outrageously with someone 880 years younger than him. Rarely, if ever, happens. There's a couple of memories of dangerous TARDIS situations in my head, no details...but mostly I think of it as a refuge. If you can just get inside the TARDIS, you'll be okay. Mostly. Not always. Not if, say, the Cybermen manage to get in. Or the Master. Or, for some reason, entropy is doing bad things to the inside of the TARDIS....

I do seem to remember Tom B's Doctor ending up some very very wacky places, far from where he was intending. I don't think we ever saw the Tardis appear, like, partway inside something (that I can recall). But, like you, I do remember some . . . . interesting placements for it.

*smiles* There is a balance to be had, but they seem to have done it by writing episodes that are childish with adult elements and episodes (as we will see later on) that are more adult with some childish elements. Oh, I was meaning the gas pressure balance-thing that the aliens were talking about. Ah, yes, the "gas exchange". A bit of a weak excuse for so many fart jokes.

The Doctor's not so good with measuring time, is he? The TARDIS is either very tempremental, or (since it is sentient) it sometimes goes off course a bit to make sure the Doctor is where he will be needed. Heh heh heh. Is it, though? You may be on to something, there. ;D That might come in handy.

I mustn't post spoilers.

For the Doctor's first two incarnations, the TARDIS had no reliable navigation at all. He'd set the thing going and just see where it took him. For most of the Doctor's third incarnation he was exiled on Earth by the Time Lords and acted as UNIT's scientific adviser. After his first three selves joined forces to defeat the renegade Omega, the Time Lords ended his exile and fully repaired the TARDIS. But it still often has a mind of it's own. Also, since he is a traveller, the Doctor will sometimes use a "randomiser" to visit new and unexpected places.

This episode is actually funny. But, I'm getting a bit tired of the flatulence. I mean my goodness! Get the balance right for pete's sake. It's a British show! There's nothing funnier than scatological humor! When I lived there, I knew a woman like the MP, who couldn't even SAY the word "fart" or even hear it said without bursting into embarrassed giggles!
