The blonde, blue-eyed cutie? Elton? That older woman reminded me of the women that Monty Python players would dress up and imitate - sounded just like them. Oh, I love Elton!! I don't like Mr Victor Kennedy. And he's killing or eating those girls or something. But is he an actual Torchwood guy, or did he steal info from Torchwood? Maybe he's the alien monster thing we'll see later! I'm totally rooting for Elton and Ursula. He's just so sweet and funny and dorky and adorable. And I love Ursula - all "most likely to fight back". ;D The are a doomed couple, it seems. Loved his quote - "We forget because we must." Very similar to something Wesley said once about the mindwipe. ILLYRIA: You betrayed Angel. You stole his son. He tried to kill you.
WESLEY: Yes.
ILLYRIA: Are these the memories you needed back? Does this now make you Wesley?
WESLEY: At least I know what happened.
ILLYRIA: Do you? There are 2 sets of memories--those that happened and those that are fabricated. It's hard to tell which is which.
WESLEY: Try to push reality out of your mind. Focus on the other memories. They were created for a reason.
ILLYRIA: To hide from the truth?
WESLEY: To endure it.

Karen: You're right, and a lot of people, especially old school Whovians, really loathe this episode. I think they think Davies is making fun of them... Oh, I think it's fun. I like that it's obviously the fans. Because the group as it started was so fun and friendly and all. Made me think of the s'cubies. Yes! When L.I.N.D.A. were going through their progression, Rich said, "Just like the S'cubies!" ;D I thought this was an amazing episode. Elton was SO completely lovable and cute and dorky. And the ending was so poignant and so ... right. Turned on a dime from humorous to philosophical. I'd have to say that Whovians who don't like this ep have no sense of humor about themselves--and that's the antithesis of the show, don't you think?

Ah, he may be, but I think it's a case of what Lola would say - he 'keeeds because he loves'. ;D Yup. I think it takes a fan to poke this kind of really gentle, loving, fun of fellow fans. I loved the moments of them all playing ELO in the basement. His memories of the fun times. Those were just lovely. And I liked how they all defeated the Absorbaloff (heeee! Elton and the Doctor both coming up with that and him liking it) together. Led by Ursula, finished by Elton breaking the stick, but accomplished by them all working together and sacrificing themselves. L.I.'N.D.A United! Yay! Well, sacrificing except for the "saved" slab of Ursula. ;D Although, I soooo don't want to know the details of their love life.

WESLEY: To endure it.Oh, very nicely put and cleverly Buffyverse compared. It was definitely darker than The Zeppo. Or at least more obviously darker than The Zeppo (which has its own subversive element underneath). But sort of the same idea. Taking a character within the show to . . . step outside and look at the show from the audience's perspective.

I enjoyed this episode as well, and word on not wanting to know more about Ursula and Elton's private time. And Jackie kicked all 31 flavors of ass here, as well. I really enjoyed how the episode was so much about those on the outside of the Rose/Ten dynamic, especially Jackie. You can't help but want to be "in" and yet know you never really will be...

And nice observations, Lola and Karen, for the Angel/Buffy comparisons...

Let me know if you find any decently-written Ursula-slab/Elton fics in your searches, Yola. </teasing>

Jackie was perfectly perfect in this. From her sweet seduction of Elton, to her pain and hurt when she learns he was looking for the Doctor, to her fierce protectiveness of Rose and the Doctor.

Oh, and Lola, completely off topic: Do you recognize my sig quote? ;D I knew it was KITH, but it took me a moment to pinpoint the actual sketch. "Did it end there?" "No, sweet Jesus, I wish it did. I would, uh, rub against myself on elevators, stare down my top using a mirror, and always, always the suggestive comments. Then one day, I was in the washroom and- *to my horror* - I found that I was- fondling myself." ;D

OK, was it just me, or did the Absorblamoff's accent make anyone else think of Mike Myers as Fat Bastard?
