I like Martha, 'cause she's an AlmostDoctor. I'm that shallow. Actually, I really do like her for her scientific analytical reasoning. That's not so shallow. So, the Doctor can just look at people, and just... know? I think he can get a . . . vibe, right off. And also, then he saw her in action and she's got all the right stuff for companioning, doesn't she? Not shallow at all. So, when you all first saw this you hadn't seen the "special" ep --- Runaway Bride. 'Cause his choice/need of Martha makes a lot more sense in context of that episode intervening between the loss of Rose and this ep. Donna (the bride) pointed out to him that he needs someone to "reign him in" or "pull him back". She watched him do the whole genocide thing with the Arachnoids and not blink an eye. Then he watches Martha double back and compassionately close the eyes of her dead superior. I think that's when he realizes that without Rose he's losing his "humanity" and Martha may be a good influence on him.

I hadn't seen the Christmas ep when I first saw this, and watching it does put it into context.

And yeah, there are several things in this ep that had a whole additional meaning after seeing Runaway Bride, that's for sure. **nods** Also, Martha sees the beauty and the terror, but still is interested in traveling. The line where she looks out over the moon and says how beautiful it is, even though they could die, is the important contrast to Donna's comments in the last moments of the Bride show.

Okay. The guy named Stoker getting eaten by a vampire? Hi-larious. ;D Plus, I just love the straw. I get the actual giggles every time she gets out her little bendy straw.

Lots of little things I noticed and loved on this re-watch.
When the head doc talks about getting a psych consult and Martha and the Doctor share a little grin.
Really enjoy how smart Martha is.
Love the Doctor's little eyebrow raise and his wacky hair.
Cracked up again at the "barefoot on the moon" line.
Snickered over the "we're stuck on the moon, running out of air, with Jidoon and a blood-sucking criminal and you're asking personal questions?". Funny, plus it shows he's still having issues, eh?
As with so many of the bad guys that the Doctor takes out, (including the spider-woman from the Bride special), the plasmavore sealed her fate in the Doctor's eyes when she was not just content to escape but to take all the other people on the moon and even everyone on Earth with her. 'Cuz you know she could have set the thing to just blow up the moon and everyone there. But no, she had to go for the full monty.

Another part I liked (but I always like it when this happens) was Martha's introduction to the TARDIS and the true nature of the Doctor at the end of the ep. Beautifully handled, I thought.
