Now that I have the mental space to do so, may I recommend Serenity Found? It's another collection of essays about Firefly/Serenity, edited by Jane Espenson. Not only does it have Orson Scott Card expounding on why Serenity is awesome (an extension of his initial analysis of it when it came out), it has an essay by Nathan Fillion on why being Mal was awesome, which hilarious ends with a "note" from his mom giving him permission to appear in the volume, and an absolutely amazing essay about what Serenity says about American media written by Jacob Clifton...the Television Without Pity recapper who wrote the Serenity recap and the utterly awesome Doctor Who recaps.
ETA: Well, I may have mental space, but apparently my brain is still missing. I mean, could I possibly use the word "awesome" more? Good lord.
