Part II
ChildLocke playing backgammon.
Foster sister Melissa. Did we know this?
And Richard visits again.
Oh, wait. Swoozie Kurtz's character was named Emily Locke. Both Locke's and Ben's mom's were named Emily. Does this mean anything?
Wait, how does Locke not remember Richard, if they met when he was a child?
Richard posing as a GT Ed recruiter.
Locke drew a picture of the smoke monster!
Is this why he wasn't afraid of it on the island?
Baseball mix, book, vial of something, comic book, pocket watch, knife. Choose the knife! Choose the knife!
Which of these things belongs to Locke? Is this like Locke is reincarnated or something?
And wait, these items come from Jacob's Cabin, don't they?
What is the title of the book? I can't read it.
Locke picks the vial and the pocket watch.
Oh, Book of Laws. Interesting.
"Hidden Land."
Yay, he chose the knife! Boo-yah!
Oh, he wasn't supposed to choose the knife. He chose wrong. Or did he? I'm thinking its more like choosing the knife means Locke is the reincarnation of some one bad or something, judging by the way that Richard booked it out of there.
Locke is digging around the mass grave. For what?
Does anyone else think that maybe the mass grave ought to be covered up or something?
Ben's exasperatedly admits that he shot Locke. Hee! Michael Emerson is fantastic in this episode.
Should have realized at the time that it was pointless, but I really wasn't thinking clearly. BWAH HAH HAH!!!!!!!!!!!
Ben denies killing off DHARMA. Because it wasn't his decision. That's what everyone who followed Hitler said.
The Leaders (plural, hmm) of The Others made the decision to gas everyone. Ben is the leader now, but he wasn't always.
Horace was a mathematician.
Ben recognizes Horace?
Blueprints. to the cabin. Ah, Horace built the cabin. Hence the trees.
Actually, Horace chopping down the trees reminds me of Mr. Eko doing the same thing to build the church. Whatever happened to the church anyway?
How does finding the blueprints equal finding the location of the cabin?
Mayhew died. The doctor was attending him.
So... is the timeline all in synch at this point and this is after the doctor's corpse washed up on the beach? Cause time on the freighter and time on island are the same (hence the instantaneous communication) it's just that it takes longer to go between the two than it should, right?
Maybe the doctor on the freighter really isn't the doctor.
The captain thinks Keamy might be infected with "the sickness." No, I just think that Keamy is pure evil.
Keamy takes the key. Is he going to launch the nukes?
Oh, it's a safe. Secondary protocol, which says where Linus is going. Huh? Is Widmore also unstuck in time?
Oh, the secondary protocol probably talks about the sanctuary or something. Wherever The Others are.
The Captain was not aware of the commandos' mission. He just thinks that they're there to extract Ben.
I love how the show is reproducing the tension (dramatically, of course) often found between disparate groups who work in close quarters on scientific expedition voyages.
The captain is on Sayid and Desmond's side.
So this is why more people couldn't get off the island, because of the commandos situation, which probably leads to more dire circumstances.

Part III
Oh, the blueprint has a map of the island and the cabin's location on it.
It's going to be dark soon? Isn't it like the afternoon?
Locke releases Hurley And now Hurley wants to stay. Locke really meant that right, and he wasn't using reverse psychology or something?
I think Hurley is curious about the cabin, and he also doesn't like being left out.
Ben can't see the situation as anything but reverse psychology. And that is the difference between Ben and Locke.
Locke in high school. Oy vey.
Call from Portland. Mettelos Laboratories. So they're trying to recruit him. But why recruit him now when they didn't want to take him as a child?
"Dr. Alpert" OK, TeenageLocke definitely recognizes that name, which means GrownLocke should have remembered Richard when he talked to him before.
Oh, Locke tries to reject his scientific aptitude.
Don't tell me what I can't do.
Frank confronts Michael.
Michael knows about Mission Kill Everyone. But Frank does not, so I guess none of Naomi's group do?
Is that a GPS tracker on Keamy's arm?
305 heading.
Desmond decides to stay.
Ah, the zodiac only holds 6 people, right? So Sayid's going to go and get the rest of the Oceanic Six, and then the freighter is going to go bye-bye somehow, but with Desmond some how surviving, and then the Oceanic Six is going to make it to a shipping lane or something and get rescued, right?

Part IV
Ben is bitter about where his destiny (or "destiny") has taken him.
Consequences to being chosen.
Destiny is a fickle bitch. Ain't that the truth.
So they find the cabin when they aren't looking for it?
RehabLocke.
Delerue center for Rehabilitation.
Whoa! Abbadon!
98% chance Locke will never regain any feeling in his legs. What was the 2% contingent on?
Surviving the fall was a miracle.
Abbadon experienced a miracle as well. What happened to him?
Is he going to push Locke down the stairs?
Abbadon gives Locke the idea for the walkabout.
When you and me run into each other again, you'll owe me one. Ooh!
Commandos are commandoing up. It's what they do.
Desmond is distressed.
Ah, so that was the same morse code message. So this episode is just covering the time that the Losties are on the beach dealing with Jack's appendicitis.
What is that tattoo on Keamy's arm?
Frank refuses to take the commandos.
Keamy slits the doctor's throat. So...time on the island is ahead of the freighter at the moment?
Shootout. Desmond gets the hell out of dodge.
Frank gives in. But he's going to sabotage the helicopter or something, right?
Wait, who is left on the boat beside Desmond and Michael at this point?

Coda Back on the beach. Jack is being a lousy patient. Juliet still carries a gun. Sayid and the zodiac reach the beach. Oh, no, it's the commandos and the helicopter. Ah, Frank sent a warning to the sat phone. Frank wants them to follow the helicopter? Ben loses faith in the island? Or just believes that his time is over. It wanted Ben to get sick and for Locke to get well. Well, you're ignoring the fact that you did get better, with *surgery*, Ben. Hurley doesn't want to go in the cabin either. Not Jacob, but he can speak on Jacob's behalf. It's Christian! Do you know why I'm here? Yeah, sure. Do you? I'm here because I was chosen to be. Claire! The baby is where he's supposed to be. ChristianJacob knows about the commandos. So, he's omnipotent? How do I save the island? Ben and Hurley. Awkward silence. He wants us to move the island. MOVE THE ISLAND?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

From lostpedia: - One of the items Richard shows Locke is the 'Book of Laws'. In "What Kate Did", Eko tells Locke a story about a King who rebuilt the Church using the Book of Laws, and then reveals part of the Orientation tape hidden inside a book.
- After a car accident, Emily Locke (initials: EL) gives birth to John 3 months premature. As newborn Locke is removed from the hospital room, Emily calls out "His name is John! Call him John!". Later in the episode John meets Horace Goodspeed in a dream, who directs John how to find the cabin. This mirrors Ben's birth story from "The Man Behind the Curtain": On the side of a road in Portland, Emily Linus (initials: EL) gives birth to Ben 2 months premature. As Emily dies from a hemorrhage, her last words are "Call him Benjamin." Roger Linus had flagged down a car driven by Horace Goodspeed, who then takes Roger and newborn Ben to the Island." ("The Man Behind the Curtain")
- The DHARMA logo on the handbook Keamy takes from the safe is the same one on the chest of the jacket Ben was wearing in Tunisia.
Also: Locke's year of birth was previously established as 1956; "Every Day" by Buddy Holly wasn't released until 1957. Thanks, Sara!! You always bring the good info! I think I'm gonna have to try and list out what I think are the main important points of this ep, just to get them all clear in my own head.

I'm sure the Horace/Horus homonym isn't accidental, especially give the show's fondness for Egyptian hieroglyphs... Hmm...

Man. It's like the tests they do to find the Dali Lama, picking out the thing that "already belonged to him". And Richard did [/i]not[/i] like him picking the knife. A hint of his violent future, eh? <snip> [/quote] Oh, yeah...

Move the island. Sure, no problem—the meter's almost out anyway...

Hey! We were right. Christian is Jacob. This show is so fulked up. "I'm here because I was chosen to be." Oh. Whatever. Hi Claire. 'I'm with him." Oh, for Christ's sake. What is the one question that does matter? Oh..really? How do I save the island? Oooookay. Claire looked very weird. Ben and Hurley. Sharing a bite to eat. Here comes Locke. OH....LOL! Move the island. Of course. Piece of cake. Allrighty then. Ooooooo now that looks like a space ship. Huh. The island is a space ship? A spaceship?

So I guess that the only real time paradox in the episode was that the doctor's corpse washed up on the beach before he was actually killed. So the corpse itself must have traveled back in time somehow.

Oh, and I'm thinking that right after the Oceanic 6 leave, Locke figures out how to move the island, which is why Jack can't find it again in the flashforward..

Oh, now Ben is all pouting. I was the special one before. OMG! Chosen and destiny the fickle bitch? Who does he think he is? The slayer?
And there's the creepy ass cabin. **starts getting scared** Physical therapy John. Ok, who is the mysterious "don't give up" therapist guy. Ooooooh! It's the Whidmore (or whatever organization) guy! Is he gonna push him down the stairs? Oh! He gives him the idea for the walkabout!! He sets up the whole thing of being on the plane!!!!!!!!!! "You'll owe me one." OMG!!!!! "But I'm the doctor." Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!! I was hired to fly scientiest. And, yeah, if you kill him then not so much with the flying. So, they kill someone else. Aaaaaaand there's the doctor so he can wash up on the beach. **is officially freaked out** Captain dead too?! ?!1 !! What did the pilot tuck away? I couldn't tell! Lola - you are slaying me. Hee!

Oh, and I'm thinking that right after the Oceanic 6 leave, Locke figures out how to move the island, which is why Jack can't find it again in the flashforward.. **bounces** Yes! This is what I was thinking!! And don't both Benry and Whidmore each say something about not being able to find the island, or having to hunt for the island or something like that in the flash-forward? Plus, if it can move somehow (in space or time or be hidden or something) it would give even more reason why Whidmore has had such a hard time getting there, in addition to the time distortion bubble or ring or whater is around it. Although, I'm even more convinced that Whidmore is Dharma, or affiliated with Dharma, since there was a Dharma logo on the "plan B" book that Keamy used.

So what are the important things to pay attention to from this ep, IMHO? • Michael apparently really really can’t be killed, and that protection tends to be done in subtle ways. So, add this to Rose’s musings from last ep (wondering why Jack got sick on the island that makes people be healthy), we can wonder if there’s a reason behind who can get sick or die and who can’t and when. • John and Ben are really being compared/linked. John is taking Ben’s place as the Island’s favorite, like Richard wanted him to do earlier, complete with meaningful dreams, special cabin-visiting rights, and wacky island-moving instructions. Plus, we see how much in common he and Benry have, like premature births from Emily’s and how they were labeled as special when kids, and so on and so forth. Difference is that Ben must have passed the tests and got shipped off to the island to be forever warped and molded into a good little manipulating and killing machine groomed for island duties and Locke didn’t. And that’s a key thing. Why Ben did and why Locke didn’t. • The objects that Locke was to choose from are somehow significant, of course, but so are the ones he touched and the one he chose. How exactly, of course, is not clear now. I wonder now if maybe picking up the knife was him being deliberately stubborn and not really picking the one he was actually drawn to. Just because. Part of the whole “you cant tell me what to do”, “I want to be the jock not the nerdy science guy”, thing. • Hurley is always being shown as special too, but a different special and it’s much more subtle. He’s not the island’s protector or whipping boy. Is he the anti-island? Or is he just anti-Ben/Whidmore/Others/Etc.? Is he maybe . . . like . . . associated with the true original island, before everyone started fighting over it and using it for their own purposes? • There really are competing interests and understanding even within Whidmore’s crew. The scientists and boat crew didn’t know about the planned violence and so on. So, we’ve seen alliances and splits with every single group we’ve met so far - the Others, the plane people, etc. etc. So, like, splitting factions and internal power struggles are a key theme for the whole show, eh? • Richard Alpert. Abbadon (sp? –I think that’s his name, yes?) Are they in cahoots? Are they in competition? Either way, they’re both involved in trying to direct Locke one way or the other. • Richard!!! He’s either time-hopping or he’s immortal/very long lived. Me? I’m fully on the train that says he’s an Island original. Or at least fairly original. One of those folks who built the big four-toed foot statue. That’s my conviction and I’m standing by it until they show me otherwise!! • Keamy’s gonna blow things up! Or die trying. Or die being stopped from trying? Or will blow things up by dying? Whatver it is, it’s icky. And he’s icky. But he’s damn smokin’ hot, even though he is icky! Evil iPods for the win! • Claire. Is she dead? ‘Cuz hanging with Christian might seem to indicate that, but doesn’t guarrantee it. Is she evil or just wacky? ‘Cuz the whole lounging around smirking thing? Seems kinda . . . off. If she is dead, when did she die? Did Christian take her off to die or be killed? ‘Cuz that would explain why she could hike thru the woods with Sawyer and carry the baby and so on. Only Miles and her saw Christian, after all, and Miles has a thing for the dead. But Sawyer saw her all along their jungle trek. Or was she killed in the exploding house and that’s why Miles was so interested in her the baby (part of his hearing the dead thing)? • Christian! Dead? Not really dead? Re-annimated by the island? Not actually Christian at all but just an avatar for Jacob/smoke monster/island? And does his involvement happen just because his body landed on the island (ha! Like it would be that random) or is there a long-standing history between the Sheppard clan and the island? Which definitely makes Jack and Claire “special” too, eh? Not to mention little Aaron! • Finally. MOVING THE ISLAND!! ‘Nuff said. Phew! I’m sure there’s much more that everyone else sees as really imporant bits coming out of the ep (‘cuz it sure as hell was jam packed!) but those are the big ones in my eyes.
