Life was his sentence. Life is what he got back. Charlie Crews: Anger ruins joy. Steals the goodness of my mind. Forces my mouth to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, leads to a mind without regrets. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.
Prison Guard: Are you making fun of us?
Crews: It is the universe that makes fun of us all.
Reese: (outside the prison gates) Why exactly would the universe make fun of us all?
Crews: Maybe it's insecure.
Join Charlie Crews in his search for zen and the truth and every piece of delicious fruit he can find. This is the place to discuss Life, the television series.
You may discuss any, all, and only those episodes and previews of Life which have already aired. No spoilers allowed! If you post a spoiler no amount of zen can save you from a universal ass-kicking. It's all about the karma baby, and spoiler-posters will be digging that hole and filling it up over and over and over again.
There is no past. There is no future. There is only the present. Be in this moment.

I've started re-watching this series today. I've seen the first three episodes, so far. I love it even more now than I did the first go around. It really makes you think. The colors are so vibrant and warm--it gives you a feeling of being there, feeling as alive and "in the moment" as Charlie does. I crave fresh fruit every time I watch an episode. ;D The character of Danny Reese is so messed up, and she's trying so damn hard to dig her way out of that hole. I love the way you can see her taking in what Crews is saying even as she's dismissing him and rolling her eyes. That actress is great--the scene at the crackhouse in the pilot episode was especially well-played, IMO. And Damien Lewis. My god, that man can give JM some serious competition in the charisma category. JM can have great chemistry with a door, DL can have great chemistry with fruit. Not only that, but he's a damn good actor. He can suck you into his performance with just a glance.

Episode 3, "Let Her Go" . . . Crews chasing the big guy down the alleys after he threw the flash-bang at him--very cool scene. The sound effects (or lack thereof) were very cool, very realistic. Well, I say realistic, but I've never been subjected to a flash-bang, so I can't say for sure. And Crews with the knife was a good choice, scene-wise. I suppose he had to learn to work with any kind of makeshift weapons he could find in prison. And when he handed the knife over to Reese? Hot. And the scene with Constance after? Hot, too.

Life will be released on DVD September 2; no word as yet on extras. What I want to know is whether the original broadcast music will be used or the music that they used for the encore broadcasts online. Not that I remember the music exactly nor have I watched the episodes again, but I've read that the changes really make a difference to the show.

I don't remember the music from the original broadcasts either exactly, but I can tell that some of the songs don't seem to belong in the scenes. I remember much cooler music in the original broadcasts. I think.

I should try to find the eps online somewhere . . . or order some form iTunes or something. But then again, maybe just go straight for the DVDs. Life and Mad Men are really the ones of the "new" shows that I know I'd be interested in owning all of the season. I just keep remembering the amazingness of some of the eps - they stick with you. Like the one with the IRS guy - the one where half his body was missing? The connections they built between him and Crews were just so amazingly well done. And then of course there's the finale. Damn!!

I watched the last three eps last night via Hulu. They were fantastic, particularly the last two: Dig a Hole and Fill it Up.
I loved it when Reese asks Crews why he isn't on a beach somewhere and he turns to her and says, "Do I look like I tan?" Hilarious.
I find Crews charismatic, but not quite up to JM levels (sorry Monnie). But he definitely has something going on in the ol' gray matter. I want to suck on that crease in his lower lip.... whoo, is it getting hot in here??
When the show starts up again, I want to see more with the chief of police. I find her very intriguing. She comes off very hard, but she's not straight up evil. There are layers there.

Maybe I'll be passed it by the time we meet up in the fall. ;D

It will be difficult, but I think we can overcome this little hiccup in our relationship.

I doubt it. Do they not want new viewers? I can't imagine any newbie buying those dvds with a cover like that. I mean, they've got two gorgeous people there and they don't even try to emphasize their hotness?

Well, it's not great, and it certainly doesn't convey what the show is all about, but I wouldn't call it ugly.
