A while back, I mentioned this on the main thread but thought I should put it here too.
In the spirit of "I can't believe I never noticed that/you can always see something new with Buffy":
In a recent viewing of BBB, I suddenly realised when Cordy says, sacastically "Ha. Very funny. What did I do now, wear red and purple together?", she's making fun of Harmony. Who is wearing a print dress with red and purple (among other colors) on it.
That's just so Cordy. ;D

I love that FX has picked BBB as a their Buffy Valentine tradition.
The moments I watched this morning were when Dru rescued Xander ("Your face is a poem. I can read it." ) from Angel's clutches ("If it's any consolation, I feel real close to you right now." - *snerk*) and when Buffy popped up nakid in the storeroom in front of Oz. Amy and Giles reversing the spells. Cool beans stuff.

This is such a good episode. Cordy and Xander. Angelus in full force. Spike getting Jealous of Angelus. I never understood that , these 3 plus Darla terrorized countries for a century, yet Spike is getting Jealous over Angelus flirting with Darla. It just seemed petty to me. I know he loves Dru, but you know damn good and well that over the amount of time the four of them were together, they were not monogamous.

Xander's love spell. A great way to show that what every high school boy dreams of, isn't always what it is cracked up to be. Now if somehow you could have the women pine over you without the drawback of death and destruction we might be on to something here.

I loved Giles reaction to Xander. Especially considering what we got to see of his past a few episodes back, I often wander if his reaction was because of the Majic used or the specific spell used. If he might not have had an encounter with a love spell that we did not know about.
This is why I wished we had gotten a Ripper series.

And I loved, loved, loved, the fact that Cordy threw away her popularity for Xander. It was what I knew was hidden deep inside her. She was a good person. This episode we got a good look at that person. One who decided she was not bowing down to peer pressure and was going to do what made her happy. I know it come back to bite her in the ass, but it really set the course for her decision making in the future. It was a defining moment in what was to make Cordelia one of my favorite characters in the verse.

A hint at the future Cordy who will voluntarily give up fame and riches to continue to fight the bad guys, even if it means she becomes part demon. Plus, I like that they show us it isn't easy or natural for her. It's not like she suddenly becomes all sweetness and light, she's still Cordy. We just see more layers of her.

I know he loves Dru, but you know damn good and well that over the amount of time the four of them were together, they were not monogamous. I think it helps if you put together the timeline (which isn't completely fleshed out in season 2). There was Darla. Then there was Darla and Angel, together for 100 years. Then there was Darla and Angel and Dru together for 20 years. Then there was Darla and Angel and Dru and Spike together for 20 years. That's really not all that long considering the span of their respective unlives. It must have been pretty intense period of time for it to have such a lasting impact. Then Darla split off, Angel split off, and Dru and Spike were together for 100 years. I think it's very likely that the Fanged Four were all having sex with each other when they were together. They have that vibe. Spike, however, is also very much about devoted romantic pairing. He didn't have it with Dru when the Fanged Four was together (ref. flashbacks in Destiny), but suddenly, during the Boxer Rebellion, Spike did something that really impressed Dru (killing the Slayer) and Angel and Darla split off so it was just Spike and Dru together alone. In Spike's mind, it must have seemed like he finally won Dru's heart, but in reality, those two events occurred simultaneously, so the question of whether Dru's attachment to Spike was because he'd finally proven himself or because there was no Angel anymore couldn't be answered. Until of course, Angel was back in the picture, and it became clear that Dru enjoys equally attention from both guys (and probably attention from anybody). She's not Spike's Lady, as he had believed. That, and the fact that Angel was capitalizing on this dynamic to annoy and exert power over Spike are the cause of the anger and frustration and jealousy that you see in him.

Funny thing is, that Spike scene at the beginning is like 3 seconds long. I keep thinking that he's in more of the episode of that because that scene is so intense.

I LURVE this episode!
I especially love the Giles-Xander exchanges, as in:
GILES: Xander. What is it?
XANDER: It, it's me... throwing myself at your mercy.
GILES: What? Why?
XANDER: I made a mess, Giles. See, I found out that Amy's into witchcraft, and I was hurt, I guess, so I... made her put the love whammy on Cordy, but it backfired, and now every woman in Sunnydale wants to make me her cuddle monkey, which may sound swell on paper, but...
JENNY: Rupert, we need to talk. Hey, Xander. Nice shirt. Look, Rupert, I know that you're angry at me, and I don't blame you, but I am not just gonna go away. (rubbing Xander's arm) I mean, I care far too much about you to... (looks at Xander's arm) Have you been working out?
GILES: I cannot believe that you are fool enough to do something like this!
XANDER: Oh, no, I'm twice the fool it takes to do something like this.
GILES: Has, uh... Has Amy tried to reverse the spell?
XANDER: I get around Amy and all she wants to do is talk honeymoon plans.
JENNY: Rupert, maybe I need to talk to Xander alone.
GILES: Do you have any idea how serious this is? People under a-a love spell, Xander, are-are deadly. They lose all And if what you say is true and the entire female population is affected, I... Don't leave the library. I'll find Amy and see if we can put a stop to this thing. (exits, dragging Jenny with him)
Nick B is just so perfect in this. And Drusilla going after him! Too good!
I should have reviewed this one, as it does have some Spikey goodness - like the part where Angel one-ups him big time by giving Dru a still-warm human heart for Valentine's Day:
(Spike gives Dru a gold necklace with rubies)
SPIKE: Fancy it, pet?
DRUSILLA: Ahhh. It's beautiful. Mm.
SPIKE: Nothing but the best for my gir...
Angel walks up to the table and sets down a human heart, fresh and bloody. He smiles over at Spike, then down at Drusilla.
ANGEL: Happy Valentine's Day, Dru.
DRUSILLA: Oh... Angel! It's still warm.
ANGEL: I knew you'd like it. I found it in a quaint little shopgirl.
He sees the necklace, picks it up and holds it out to have a look at it.
ANGEL: Cute. (reaches around Drusilla's neck with it) Here.
SPIKE: I'll get it!
ANGEL: Done. I know Dru gives you pity access, but you have to admit it's so much easier when I do things for her.
Such a great scene. The actors are so wonderful in it.
The whole Spike-Dru-Angel relationship in a nutshell. Spike could just never win, if Angel was around. This was part of what drove him toward obsessively chasing Buffy. So many years later, when he's fighting Angel for "the cup" in ATS S6, you can really hear it in how he relishes throwing his relationship with Buffy in Angel's face.

I love that FX has picked BBB as a their Buffy Valentine tradition. **nods** They're building a holiday tradition for this and for Pangs at Thanksgiving, aren't they? Those are my kinda traditions. ;D I love how Angelus is so confused/angry and all "you're kidding me?!" when Dru is protecting Xander. ;D And then he pays her back by being all snarky when she can't get into the house like the other women. And I like the B plot too, with Giles trying to warn Buffy while protecting her from the worst of Angelus' past doings. And she wants to know, but not know. "I don't wanna know. I don't have a puppy. Skip it."

That's allowed him to start thinking of them as "just us, together forever, I'm her knight taking care of my dark princess" again. And then, Angelus is back and so easily takes over again. It's got to be the way he is so readily set off to the side that drives him crazy. Not out of the picture, but just not fully in it either. I would think it'd feel like all those years together were for nothing, meant nothing. Like he was just a substitute while Dru waited for the more important person. Which would be oh so very ouchie feeling. And tells us a lot about the insecurities underlying his relationship with Buffy as well. And makes it more complicated, because it's about not just adding another person, it's about displacing you.
