I really like it when David Tennant does that mouth hanging open thing. So, Christmas in.. Victorian times? Dickensian times? Some time in the 19th century Christmas Carol reference. Heh. Ah, 1851. And here's our companion for the episode. A NotDoctor? Is this an alternate reality or in the Doctor's head? Credits Ooh, that could be a fun amusement park ride. Ah, so this guy was somehow made to believe that he's the Doctor. A sonic screwdriver = one that makes noise. Hee! And it certainly makes more sense than the other definition, doesn't it? I guess the NotDoctor is more accurately the companion of the episode. The NotTARDIS is a hot air balloon. Neat. The Cybermen have a database of Doctor info, ie the tv show itself. Are the Cybermen supposed to be a representation of humanity/the British the way the Borg are (representations of humanity/Americans, I mean)? Well, this episode had some good meta, with the NotDoctor providing an interesting foil for the Doctor. And I liked the steampunk aspects of it. And I liked the evil chick. I could have cared less about the whole monster plot, but that's not so unusual for Doctor Who.

quibble on the part numbering - season 5 isn't this year, it's only the specials, so this special isn't 5.00 it's... something. actually that's why I didn't make a thread. which is a weird reason. ETA: relabel is good

Patrick Joseph (Marquis de Carabas in Neverwhere) is rumored to be the next doctor. Sooo glad it wasn't the guy in the special. Paterson Joseph He was also in two episodes of Doctor Who, Bad Wolf and Parting of the Ways. He's been on the bookies' list for ages, but the announce hasn't happened yet. ETA: Okay, announce has happened. It's not PJ. *sulk*

this finally aired in the u.s. last night!
an ad during the show said that the next episode will be on 26 july. (torchwood will be on starting the 20th for those that don't know already.) they are airing on bbc america channel now instead of 'syfy'...i guess bbc finally got out of their contract to have them air elsewhere first.
anyhow, i thought this was an enjoyable episode. i quite liked the steampunk aspects and the villain, as liz commented. i loved the hot air balloon! i too am glad that the guy who was playing the not!doctor isn't the next doctor, though i don't think i've seen the actual true next doctor in anything so i don't know how i'll feel about him.

Where (what station) did it air on? BBCA? (Which I don't get). Anybody know where I can view it online (legit) or buy it -- somebody said i-Tunes?

Anybody know where I can view it online (legit) or buy it -- somebody said i-Tunes? yes, it aired on BBC America. it looks like they're going to be hosting the new DWs from now on, because of that ad they aired during the show. i'm not sure where it's available online.
