Oh, my, what do we have here? Why, it's the 2nd week of the 2007 Sizzlin’ Episode Festival
Let’s hear it for the 9th most-voted-for episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Episode s?! Yep - we ended up with a tie, folks, so for the next two weeks, we’ll be celebrating both of our “Number Eight and a Half” episodes. And Who Are You? is one of them!! You can't do that, because it's naughty. I could ride you at a gallop until your legs buckled and your eyes rolled up. I've got muscles you've never even dreamed of. I could squeeze you until you pop like warm champagne and you'd beg me to hurt you just a little bit more. And you know why I don't? Because it’s wrong! Faith in Buffy: You're not gonna kill these people. Vamp: Why not? Faith in Buffy: Because it's wrong. Buffy in Faith: You can't win this. Faith in Buffy: SHUT UP! Do you think I'm afraid of you!? You're nothing! Disgusting! Murderous bitch! You're nothing! So go forth and watch tapes or DVDs or re-charge the batteries in your memory or read the transcripts! 'Cuz it's time to turn the upcoming week into a celebration of Who Are You?!
Don't have the vids or DVDs? Haven't watched these eps recently? Read the Buffyverse Dialogue Database conversation transcript for Who Are You?
And don't forget the wonderful resources here at the Soulful Spike Society! Spring's ebulgeometric and Spikecentric review of Who Are You? lives here. And the comment thread for for Spring's review lives here.
Discuss, laugh, swoon, lust, wipe away a tear, post pictures or trivia questions, swap gossip, think deep, think shallow!

So, here are some wandering thoughts that I had when re-watching this week . . .
I realised that I keep watching for "start" of Faith changing, the "moment" when Faith starts to have second thoughts about being destructo gal. Is it when Joyce hugs her? When she saves the girl at the Bronze? When Riley says he loves her (thinking she's Buffy)?
And then I thought, there is no one moment. She's been weaving back and forth between bad girl and hmmm maybe there's more to me than this girl ever since we met her. From the time she going to run from Kakistos but didn't, to stabbing the mayor's assistant and being obviously freaked and bothered and then putting that emotion away to the moments in this ep. So really, all these instances are "the moment" and none of them are.
Love Willow's babble to Tara and her "I don't usually use that many words to say something so little". Because: a) yes you do and b) you're not really saying something "little". ;D
Always get a hoot out of missionary!Adam, all "I have seen the light, follow me, puny demons". But it also really struck me how he is . . . I think he really is looking for meaning in his rampage-y life, really being all "what's it all about". Which is kinda freaky, what with his breakthrough understanding being "aha! my purpose is to kill kill kill" and all.
Also? Giles trying to act hysterical and saying "tiny, tiny babies" to distract the guard? Never gets old! ;D

Oh, I so agree - there is no one moment when Faith starts to have second thoughts about herself - there are a lot of them, but she doesn't put it together until she's in the church (very appropriate - that Joss!) fighting with Buffy and she starts beating on her own face. FAITH: (enraged, with tears in her eyes) SHUT UP! Do you think I'm afraid of you!?
(screaming at Buffy in her own body as she beats her)
FAITH: You're nothing! Disgusting! Murderous bitch! You're nothing! You're disgusting!(Very reminiscent of when Buffy beats on Spike later in Season 6 and projects her disgusts for herself onto him. Interesting that Buff wants to turn herself in right after that, just as Faith will later decide to do in Angel. Really need to rewatch Five by Five now. //tangent//) Lots of 'soul-searching' from every character in Season 4. They all seem to be asking themselves "Who are You?". Nothing in this episode ever gets old! Especially: ;D

Oh, nicely phrase-turned. And it all fits with the "going to college/growing up who am I" theme, eh? OMG so love love love that scene. "I've got muscles you've never even dreamed of". Oh yeah, baby!

I've already said a lot already in the Spikecentricity thread, but I'll add a few things here. Part of the twop recap is totally worth noting. Spike asks if Fuffy [Faith-In-Buffy] knows why he hates her and she perkily replies, "Because I'm a stuck-up tight-ass with no sense of fun?" Spike looks surprised and admits that's most of it. Fuffy continues to mock her idea of Buffy's behavior, asking, "Because I could do anything I want but instead I chose to pout and whine and feel the burden of Slayerness?" She continues that she could have anyone she wants to and sidles up very close to Spike, running her hands over his chest and pushing him against a pillar. Spike is obviously incapacitated by lust as Fuffy seductively gives him this speech: "I could ride you at a gallop until your legs buckled and your eyes rolled up. I've got muscles you've never even dreamed of. I could squeeze you until you popped like warm champagne and you begged me to hurt you just a little bit more." Giving her approximation of a good-girl face she asks him if he knows why she doesn't do all that. Spike has no response and Fuffy continues, both simperingly and seductively, "Because it's wrong." Damn, that was pretty raunchy for a 7:00 PM time-slot. She then laughs and sidles away. Spike threatens her that when he gets the chip removed they're going to "have a confrontation" Fuffy tells him to count on it and leaves. Spike angrily throws his beer bottle at a wall and storms off. In his hurry to leave, he shoves a random guy out of his way and then grabs his head in pain. It's a shame there's no way Spike and Buffy can have a romance, because SMG and James Marsters together sizzle like a thick, fatty steak over a blazing mesquite fire. Especially in comparison to her scenes with Marc Blucas, which sizzle about as much as boiled cod drenched with gravy. (Note to self: in the future, eat before writing recap).BWAH HAH HAH!!!

People asking the question "who are you?" in the episode.
*Buffy-in-Faith asks the Watcher's Council's Special Ops Group.
*Faith-in-Buffy asks Riley (after sex).
*Riley asks Buffy-in-Faith.
I have no idea if that means anything.

I have no idea if that means anything. **nods** I think it means something. For this ep, 'cuz it's all about Faith starting to wonder who she is, really. And fits with the title and all. And fits the season, with all the becoming of adults and figuring out what that means and who'll they'll become and what not.
