I posted over on the Patti thread, but I also wanted to post this here:
Unbelievable as it seems to say it, it was five years ago today that we all waited anxiously to hear what was happening with Patti, only to get the terrible news that she had died.
It was an evening I will never forget. Hugs to you all!

Beach Trip, Part 2Julia, remembering Patti's horror over the Whale Carcase report; I wish I could have met her in person S'cubies. Julia, I'm enjoying the photos. I haven't been posting because nothing seems worth the trouble most of the time. However, today was nice, even if I spent most of the night awake, and had nightmares during the little sleep I got. Anyways, the Husband and I drove to Art Supply Warehouse, then across the lower part of the county to a Vietnamese restaurant he and his work buddies like. I now know a bit more about Vietnamese cuisine; at least, enough to know (a) that pho is good and (b) what to do with the plate of assorted branches and other vegetable matter. Oops, Julia, your second link is taking me to the posting page, not to your post. As is the third. Entropy indeed.

I'm posting this article After dark, the dirty work at Disneyland begins from today's Business Section of the LA Times in part because it's interesting, and in part because of the following: "Meanwhile, the paint crews search for gates, fences, benches or buildings that have become faded, chipped or scratched. But they must use special paint that will dry before guests enter the park in the morning." Paul's company, Deft Chemical Coating, makes the paint; they sell Disneyland about a million dollars'-worth annually. In fact, he's gotten to go backstage several times to see what they need. Remember that unmanned rocket-jet-plane thingy somebody posted a link about a while back? Deft makes special radar-defeating paint for that too. Also small batches of bright yellow paint for some rich dude's Nascar race car. Cool, huh?

Do they make anything along the lines of nail polish that with instantly dry on your toenails? I painted them for the first time this season a few days ago. The polish I used says "Insta-Dri" but it is not Insta enough for me.

I am in Chicago. Met Carolyn's bf --- nice guy and he makes her laugh. Taking Allie to O'hare tomorrow for her flight to Paris. Jim is in Williamsburg. But the weather channel is all about Nashville: 5 drowning deaths? interstates closed due to flooding. And even more rain (3+ inches) due tomorrow. Yikes. Jim is supposed to fly NOrfolk to Baltimore to Nashville tomorrow right through the enormous red oval covering the country from Gulf to Great Lakes from Ohio/KY/Tn/AR/ over to VA and the CArolinas. Jim got an email alert from Vandy that they were providing sleeping spaces for staff (hospital) to spend the night as everyone was requested NOT to be on the roads. I just got word from Friend in Nashville. He lives on a ridge so is above some of the flooding, but the water comind down from the hill above has flooded his basement. He has no power and his landline is off. We kept the conversation short to preserve the cel phone's battery. Worried about him a little.

It was an evening I will never forget. Hugs to you all! I think I'll refrain from commenting about that day except to say it was one of the worst days I've experienced. I miss Patti every time I pass a Starbucks or a Madeline's. I still have two of her shirts and her little silver heart-shaped box from the S'cubies that says, "Every night you save us." Her sister gave them to me.

And now on a happier note, here's my granddaughter Lan--in the white dress--and her friends on their way to prom: Believe it or not, she's wearing her mother's wedding dress! That dress is 11 years old! In front of the house: The second girl is her best friend Genevive and the guys are friends because the school has rules about prom dates who are over 21--Which Lan's boyfriend is! He was quite a dear about it. Bought her a massage the day before then came to the house and made himself ready to run errands and otherwise help while she got ready. Adoring grandma found some bling to lend. Lan's tiara is from my collection. The Princess herself!

There was a fire. I fell down some steps getting away from the fire. Now my knee hurts. The fire got put out by firemen and they said we can go back inside now.
I went on the NHS website and answered questions until it decided I needed to phone NHS direct. When I phoned they said I need to talk to a nurse, which will be a call back, any time in the next six hours. Yes, they said this at quarter to midnight. They did point that out. I said I'd probably be awake anyway. I woke up at 1430 today, being awake until 0400 is pretty reasonable. So, anyway, they said rest/ice/elevation, which I can do. I have frozen chopped onion and I put that on for 20 minutes. Now I'm in my lovely recliner chair. Which is more like 'flat' than elevation, but I can't put my feet up on the sofa cushions on account of I upended the sofa to put my chair in. So it's the best I can do. It's a very nice recliner.
The rubbish bins caught fire again. It is Bad when that happens. It's not under my flat, but it is right next to the steps. Also the lights on the outside stairs were out and I didn't have my torch because I'd gone out to see if there was a fire and hadn't brought a torch just my phone. Then I set the fire alarm off and yelled 'real fire!' and left and went far from the fire.
I would very much like it if there were no more fires. The last one was christmas food fire and the one before that was december first rubbish fire. I think a fire every six months is too damn many fires.

One fire is too many damn fires, at least in my opinion. So glad to hear you're okay.
