Diane, your granddaughter is lovely, and she has your smile! Julia, proms everywhere; there's a story about Prom Night at Bridges in Aberdeen in the last post on my LJ. Photos are gorgeous. Several cancelled proms in Nashville. Along with cancelled flights (Jim stuck in Raleigh), cancelled schools, cancelled roads, even the med school cancelled classes because roads are impassable. Fire trucks at Vandy, pumping out basement and first floor of children's hosp. Tom checked on our house yesterday but has had the good sense not to venture out today. I know our electricity is working because the answering machine is on. We are not in a low lying area but it's likely that the storm drain at the corner of our property has become blocked and is overflowing and causing flooding in the yards across the street (and below street level). Allison on her way to France. Off to see Carolyn's improv group. Hoping SW flies into Nashville tomorrow. Oh yeah: JIM CANTORE is broadcasting from Antioch, which is in the SE corner of the county -- a Nashville suburb.

And see, I was just heading here to complain about my drive home from the movies through a torrential rain, and you gotta post first and one up me. I took myself to see The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Wasn't showing anywhere locally--the closest theater was 45 minutes away. Totally worth it though, torrential rain and all. I am assuming the U.S. remake won't be nearly as good.

There was a fire. I fell down some steps getting away from the fire. Now my knee hurts. The fire got put out by firemen and they said we can go back inside now. I went on the NHS website and answered questions until it decided I needed to phone NHS direct. When I phoned they said I need to talk to a nurse, which will be a call back, any time in the next six hours. Yes, they said this at quarter to midnight. They did point that out. I said I'd probably be awake anyway. I woke up at 1430 today, being awake until 0400 is pretty reasonable. So, anyway, they said rest/ice/elevation, which I can do. I have frozen chopped onion and I put that on for 20 minutes. Now I'm in my lovely recliner chair. Which is more like 'flat' than elevation, but I can't put my feet up on the sofa cushions on account of I upended the sofa to put my chair in. So it's the best I can do. It's a very nice recliner. The rubbish bins caught fire again. It is Bad when that happens. It's not under my flat, but it is right next to the steps. Also the lights on the outside stairs were out and I didn't have my torch because I'd gone out to see if there was a fire and hadn't brought a torch just my phone. Then I set the fire alarm off and yelled 'real fire!' and left and went far from the fire. I would very much like it if there were no more fires. The last one was christmas food fire and the one before that was december first rubbish fire. I think a fire every six months is too damn many fires. I agree with Sara - any fire is too many! Have you talked to a nurse? How are you doing now?

I posted over on the Patti thread, but I also wanted to post this here: Unbelievable as it seems to say it, it was five years ago today that we all waited anxiously to hear what was happening with Patti, only to get the terrible news that she had died. It was an evening I will never forget. Hugs to you all! I think I'll refrain from commenting about that day except to say it was one of the worst days I've experienced. I miss Patti every time I pass a Starbucks or a Madeline's. I still have two of her shirts and her little silver heart-shaped box from the S'cubies that says, "Every night you save us." Her sister gave them to me. Yes, I remember how awful it was just sitting at my house googling to try to help find Patti's brother, and praying she was OK - and feeling frustrated beyond belief, hearing about what you were going through, trying to get help. I can't even imagine what it was like for you. It still brings tears to my eyes, remembering that horrible night. I am glad you have the S'cubie box. And yes, on a happier note: Your grandaughter is GORGEOUS! I like the extra bling grandma added.

Eeeep about Nashville, Sue! Glad that you are relatively dry in Chicago and that Tom is taking care and that you have electricity down there!
