Time to catch up on PR from last night!
First. How can anything ever again compare with the incredibly funny funny Tim G and Kristin conversation about animal wooly balls? It can’t! I mean, any conversation that leads to Tim saying “I prefer the wooly balls” immediately goes into the hall of fame. Too. Perfect!!!!
I am sooooo happy we’re getting more Tim in these longer eps, actually getting to hear the amount of commentary on the outfits, etc.
Also? Peach and April helping Andy? And the model helping Ivy! Very sweet and nice to see the camaraderie!
OK, here is my usual “runway thoughts before I hear what the judges say” babble.
Betsey Johnson as judge! Coooooool!!
Christopher – I agree with him and Tim. The “fabric” he made? Beautiful! I love the simple slightly retro shape of it and the neckline. I’m not totally fond of the hem dipping in the back, but otherwise this is lovely.
Michael D – Hmmmm. I don’t have a problem with the skirt being stiff, because that’s what he was going for and I like it. I don’t care as much for the waistline treatment, which ended up looking too sloppy. Either make it smaller or larger. And the top is also sloppy.
Andy – OMG, I knew this was looking super cool as he made it, but damn, this rocks even more than I was expecting! Awesomely cool dress!! Plus I love the back straps and the styling and the accessory. Very very nice!!
A.J. – Cute. Very him. Not spectacular, but cute. I do like his accessory, even if it doesn’t go quite as well with the whole outfit as it could have. And the hootchie beads are a bit . . . well, obvious.
Ivy – It’s pretty, although not the best . . . shape? Or fit perhaps? Not cutting-edge fashion forward, but pretty.
Michael C – OMG, he made a long dress? Whoa! I didn’t realize it was long! This is really rather spectacular. Very dramatic, very wowza. A bit traditional in shape, but pretty.
Peach – Very fun and flirty outfit. I like that it is a skirt and separate top. And the purse is super cute!
Gretchen – Oooh, I love the skirt and jacket! (Although, doing the “other material that looks like leather” is gonna start to get to be old hat soon isn’t it? At least she did it well!) I’m not totally fond of the silver shirt/blouse thing underneath, but the skirt and jacket are very cool!
Mondo – Very fun! And I love his styling, with the black tights and the necklace. I think the bodice is nicely made.
Casanova – Well, this is better than I thought it would be, I guess. I like the front OK, I guess, but the overly fluffy back is not as much of a fave with me. Oddly, I think my very favorite part? Is the throw or stole or whatever you’d call it that he made from the stuffed animals. Very 40’s glamour!
Kristin – Oh, I like this! Very 60’s, yes, but in a now way, in my opinion. LOVE the color! Love the skirt (except, again, with the longer in the backness). Bit of a fit issue with the bodice though. But I love the floaty skirt!
April – Ooooh, interesting! I do love the black and silver and the fact that the dress looks like you could use it to hurt someone. I actually also like the excess of the top construction at the neckline, but it is not balanced with enough volume at the bottom.
Sarah – Oh. This is not good. What happened? You had the start of a cool dress and . . . This just looks a bit sad. Where is the fun? The flair? It’s got a home-made Sci-Fi costume look to it. Only not with enough oomph that a real home-made Sci-Fi costume would have. Damn. I liked what she started to do with the top and the skirt originally – she should have kept going.
Valerie – I really like the skirt! A lot! But I’m not fond of the bodice. The front just doesn’t look like a good fit/shape to me. Too straight, too big a gap in the front. Braid at the back would have been more impressive if I hadn’t already seen the amazing stuff Andy did. I mean, it’s nice and, as she says, clean, but not as spectacular as his.
I gotta agree with Tim again. This was an amazing bunch of outfits!! Really only a few clunkers in the whole line-up.
Judging!
Top and bottom:
Valerie – they like the styling (the accessory not as much); well cut, fun, sophisticated, lovely, sexy. Betsey loves how your dress could be used to mop up spills and what not at the party. Heeeee!! Beautiful construction, flirty but fun, sexy but not vulgar.A.J. – Silly, although they like the necklace, camp but overdone, hot mess (which he takes as a compliment), not cut or fit well, not far enough to look unintentional and not perfect enough to look intentional (which is a typical overcomplicated Michael comment and yet, I know what he means). Betsey appreciates the “party spirit”, but thinks he should have taken it even further. Wasn’t enough.
Andy – Exciting, a real transformation, remarkable, beautiful execution, wearable, Betsey misses some fun but says it is just too beautiful, whole look is very well put together.
Casanova – She looks like a transvestite flamenco dancer at a funeral (classic Michael HA! You know it’s never gonna be good when he begins with “where do I start?”), you weren’t trying for funny you were trying for glamour, workmanship is there but the taste level is not, Betsey likes that she is two completely different looks from front and back, Heidi thinks so many things were going on and a few of them went wrong, a few good ideas but 100 dresses in one.
Sarah – Looks like a cut-out dress, simple, sad (oooh, that’s what I thought too!), not a fully-thought out idea but just a “I’m gonna make something”, didn’t go with her gut, a mish-mosh, not funny, didn’t do anything, sent out a snooze but at least she knew it.
Gretchen – Fabulous, proportion of skirt is a bit too long (I’d agree, or else maybe not to have had the high boots), very now, vibe is cool, lives in today’s world, very “her”, Betsey is confused by the boots and Heidi doesn’t like them either.
Who wins? Who’s out?
Andy wins! Cool! I’d have been fine with any of them or even a few from the middle, so I’m very happy.
Sarah goes. Well, damn, because I liked her, but I can see why. It had to be her or Casanova as far as I was concerned. Once again they toss the dull over the interesting but badly done, which I can agree with. And yeah, I knew she was in trouble when she kept saying things like “I don’t like it” or that she was struggling with making something she’d wear. She needed to listen to that as it was happening. But I really liked how aware she was about what went wrong.
Good ep! So many good outfits and a fun challenge.
