OK. Well, the area got creamed by tornados, including damage to the area High School, and more. Shelter for the suddenly homeless was set up at the University, and our students got involved in helping out. Truly amazing. It included the leveling of the Autotech Service Center at the edge of town. This film was taken near my house; I can tell from looking at it. Michelle, Liz, Monnie - you might be able to recognize the Convo at the beginning: Anyhow - my house survived untouched, but it is quite a disaster for the area. Oh Spring, I had no idea. I only knew about the bad storm in NYC. Yikes! So glad you are unhurt and it's also nice that your house is good. Weather disasters are such random tragedies.

Y'all will appreciate this: when I was on the train, a forty-ish guy who got on at Tukwila complained that he had an aisle seat because he wanted to use his laptop. I was all "geez, dedication there, working on a train on Friday afternoon. When I looked over, he was watching the Firefly episode "Heart of Gold."
Julia, I had to smile...

Diane: Am sending good vibes your grandson's way.
Julia: SO glad to hear Franklin made it through OK. Please rest and recover, too!

Vibes for Diane and Julia and Anne and everyone! Spring, I'm glad that your house was missed and I think it's wonderful that the students at the university got involved in the emergency management. I'm feeling a bit lately. We've been doing a lot of running around and getting involved. I'm breaking a 15 year habit of not getting to involved because we didn't have (insert x here, where x equals time, energy, money or all three). Tonight we went to a SCA business meeting and I volunteered to learn how do do one of the more important offices, probably going to organize a sewing party or two as well, not to mention I may end up roped into teaching and or volunteering at several events over the next few months. I'm writing a program for our TOPS chapter on mindful eating, which means research and the whole trying to screw up the courage to stand up in front of a dozen strangers and sound like I know what I'm talking about. Gearing up for Christmas and the start of making presents season, so my needles and my sewing machine are going to be going non stop for the next three months, and on top of that I'm getting ready to have company over next weekend which means digging out the apartment from the post wedding chaos. So that is my life right now. From 0 to 160 in three weeks. Oh not to mention going to start taking swimming lessons.... I read the boards even if I don't post that often, and I'm always thinking of the S'cubies everyday in my meditations. See you around!

Hiya. Been busy all week, what with the lab-setting-up, the birthday party planning, and the food poisoning/stomach bug.
Today is Em's first birthday party. Where the heck does the time go?

If you are asking this now, what will you say in 39 years? Diane *wondering the same thing as daughter passed 40th birthday*

Except for the occasional special on poverty, or the times on a movie or TV show where it's made fun of, SE Ohio and Appalachia generally do not exist in the mainstream media. Which is fine. We are getting the government attention we need, seems like, and people are banding together. Lots of quiet sharing at work the next morning - people talking about what they'd seen, heard, or experienced first hand. I was pretty much oblivious through it - I mean, we were having a bad storm, and I heard sirens, but I wasn't paying close attention until friends and family started to call, asking if I was OK. Which I was. I experienced flickering lights - once. That was it - oh, and of course, having Nanucci plastered up against me the whole time. He is smarter than me, when it comes to these things.
