I get a vacation after this, right? I really need a vacation a lot, man.
Julia, trying to swallow my very late dinner but almost too tired to chew

So. I'm listening to Wintersmith and will soon move on to Making Money and then Unseen Academicals and then the most recent one. Then I will be so very sad, as I will just have to read them over again.
and I am just... blown away by the imagery in Thud with a Vimes acting as an avenging angel whilst bellowing for his cow, and lamenting in a seriously scarily unhinged fashion the non-cowness of chickens and hippopotami.
and in an unrelated note, Horace is my favorite Nac Mac Feegle.

So.
No pixies have come to make my bed.
Dammit.
Julia, resting until I can get out of this chair and/or Anna gets home from work

Would you guys please remind me NOT to read Thomas Hardy when I'm already kind of tired and low energy?
Just finished reading "Jude the Obscure" and now I've gone from sort of meh to seriously bummed.

Set fire to the tree. Blame the girl. Diane *wishing her digestive tract would finally go back to its normal state of not working very well*

I saw a murmuration of starlings while sitting outside after lunch. Similar to this video, but only 50 yards away from me. It startled me, but was soooooo beautiful. ETA: They ended their murmur in a perfect sphere formation. That? Is utterly amazing. And it reminds me of a TV show (because what DOESN'T remind me of a TV show?) that I used to watch as a kid based on actual reports of UFO sightings and a governmental department that researched the sightings. Does anyone remember that show? At the end of the show, people often found out that what they saw was a weather balloon, or an experimental airplane, or something like that. But I wonder if some of the sightings were starlings? Replying to myself because I'm cool like that. I remembered the name of the show was Project Blue Book. IMDB says the creator was Jack Webb.

Does anyone else snicker when they talk about horizontal fracking on NPR? Just me then? OK.

Diane *wishing her digestive tract would finally go back to its normal state of not working very well*There's a lovely gastroenteritis (probably viral) going around. We've had two bouts in my home, half the students here have it, and at least three other faculty. Watch what you eat even after you're feeling better. It appears to kill lots of your native flora, and if you eat something squirrely, you'll spend all day nauseated on the couch again (like I did Saturday, after a seemingly innocuous burrito).

talking of viruses: my laptop computer just got one, I reckon. the virus checker says it cleaned it, but then it keeps on saying it cleaned it, again again, and is deleting a lot of my html files. I was reading here when it happened. I venture back from a different computer running a different browser with a lot more blocking stuff. Is very not cool.
