Eh, so I mentioned it above in a post to Erin, but I thought I'd let the S'cubes know I am having thyroid surgery on October 25th. At a regular checkup in July, my doctor noticed some swelling on my neck and had me go for blood tests, which came back indicating an overactive thyroid. I had an ultrasound done to find out why it's overactive and they discovered some cysts, which I then had biopsied via fine needle aspiration. Unfortunately, the results were "inconclusive" so now I have to go have half of the thyroid removed to be more comprehensively biopsied. There's a quick test they can do while I'm still under for the surgery. That test will either come back "inconclusive" again or "positive for cancer cells", in which case they'll go right back in and remove the rest of my thyroid. If it's "inconclusive" again, they'll do a different test on what they took out. If it comes back negative, I can go home. If it comes back positive, I'll have to go back into surgery the next day to have the rest of the thyroid removed. The treatment is simple: no radiation or chemotherapy, just one radioactive iodine pill and I should be done except for having to take replacement thyroid hormones for ever and ever. So that's pretty much all the news *I* have. and that all turns out well.

Okay, so I got up at 5AM, made the family thermos of tea, fed the cats, saw the Husband off to work and went back to bed. Got up an hour later, showered, dressed in sloppy comfortable clothes, decided to wash towels so I won't have to do that tomorrow with the rest of the laundry. Gave the Elder Daughter her birthday goodies (she's Twenty-Two!) and saw the Younger Daughter off to school. Moved furniture around my studio so I could get the paint ladder in and hang the new class project way up high next to the shelf with Frida and the sock monkeys and My Little Ponies and other dolls, dusted around that side of the room, put everything back, put some beads and stuff away, dragged out boxes of fabric for the next project. Sent photos to my cousin and am now ready to fall over . I'm thinking of spending the rest of the day rereading Discworld novels, but just the ones with the witches, because that's what I feel like doing. Anne, inert

So. I've spent my weekend wrestling with the spinning wheel. I almost have half a pound of Dark Blue Faced Leicester (type of sheep) in a yummy natural brown spun into about 450 yds of navajo plied yarn. I am paying for spending 6+ hrs a day treadling with muscles that aren't used to the abuse. But I had fun and now I have a new addiction. I think I'll tone it down though and actually knit something with the yarn I made this weekend. I think it's going to become a shawl. The yarn isn't spectacular, but it's not rope either. It will be cool to have something I can say that I made completely from scratch! Some day when we're millionaires I will get a loom and spin the threads for it and weave my own cloth and then spin my own sewing thread and then spin my own yarn and make lace and weave the trim and make an outfit. Some day. Seeing as I'm dreaming

Thanks for all the good thoughts, everybody. I was wigged out about it a while back but I'm okay now...which is why I could post about it. ;D
Might have a resurgence of wiggery as it gets closer to surgery time, but I'm sure I'll be fine!

Ten-hut!!Fall in!!At ease. - Some S'cubies are present and accounted for - others are AWOL, and courting a dishonorable discharge!
- No S'cubies are entirely within regulation, but some have made beds, sparkly shoes, and washed faces.
About face!!Forward march!PS> Shan - best wishes with your surgery, let us know how it goes! Anne - consider yourself bitten. Angelique - enjoy the new addictions!
