Planned obsolescence has claimed my wife's laptop PC yet again. After a couple of years they stop recognizing that the charger is plugged in. This always proves to be a broken connection on the motherboard that is more expensive to replace than the PC.
My MacBook isn't trouble-free, but its MagSafe connector hasn't had a problem in 4 years. Attempts to convert the family to the Jobsian Cult have been fruitless. No fruit for Sharky. So, tomorrow will include PC shopping.
ETA: Excellent opening graphic!

Hello, Diane. I've been meaning to ask, what's with the new prefix? New physical location, or more emotional and spiritual?

Hello, Diane. I've been meaning to ask, what's with the new prefix? New physical location, or more emotional and spiritual? Not to steal Diane's thunder but while you are here and she is not I think it refers to her upcoming trip west to Paleyfest. She'll affirm or correct that when she gets back, I'm sure.

Ah, that explains it. Thanks, Sue. My memory's kind of holey since I signed that contract with the Rossum Corporation, but aren't you related to Timothy Keller? I read a very nice review of his latest book.

I read a very nice review of his latest book. Yes! In fact, he is coming to Nashville tomorrow to speak to a local church on his book tour. And my sister is signed up to be the lead speaker at our women's retreat in April. If you go over to the Admin thread (do you have the password?) there is a link to Tim's appearance on Morning Joe last week.

I'll see if I can Google the appearance.

Your Luke & Lorelei quotes make me miss their chemistry something fierce.

I'm sending you 2 IMs - one with the password but the other is a foreward of Shan's original message. Check your messages log, maybe you overlooked or forgot it, it was quite a while ago.

Hello, Diane. I've been meaning to ask, what's with the new prefix? New physical location, or more emotional and spiritual? Nope. Just going on vacation. Going to LA to Paleyfest next week.

Believe me, MORE emotional is the LAST thing I want to be.

Love the opener. Quick hi, S'cubes! Am going to be really busy the next few days so may not be stopping by much. Contractor is really moving along with the upstairs. Piano! I am still working on trying to get it out of here. Any local music schools or PTAs that would take it? Good ideas. We have no local music schools, but we have a School of Music. I am going to put a flyer there. Am also putting ad in local free paper . . . see what happens.

Also, FYI: I got my laptop at work upgraded (also a Lenova, now 5 years old, and never had that motherboard problem). I now have Windows 7. So far, I love Windows 7. I have the 32 bit version. I also have 3.5G of ram in it now, and a new hard drive, and it goes like the wind! I never had Vista (went from XP to 7) but others reported that it was "buggy." So far, so good on 7.

We've had the problem with a Sony and a Compaq, and maybe one more brand. It may be the usage, as Angie takes the "laptop" label literally and does 100% of her computing with the machine on her lap. Maybe this doesn't support the cord as well.
