And, as with all things Joss you must watch to the very end. "Zomney" made me bust out.

Yeeee. I got a call from the head Zomney himself just now. It started, "Hello, this is Mitt Romney . . . " I interrupted at this point, to tell him I had already made up my mind, but he just wouldn't stop talking. So what could I do? I said: "Please proceed, Governor." And he did. So I had no choice but to rudely hang up on him. I heard that if you early vote, the calls will stop. Another reason to early vote. I've been putting it off because the girls have never been to the polls before and wanted to go with me to see how it worked.

Well, I early voted and it hasn't stopped the local politician groups from calling. (The presidential candidates never did but I still feel it's really important to vote even in a non-swing state because the bigger the differential in popular vote the better. and, really enjoyed the segment on Rachel Maddow re character and integrity and courage: www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/26/1150988/-Rachel-Maddow-Biden-s-Eulogy-for-McGovern-Demonstrates-Character-and-TrustworthinessA bit upside down as the intro parts by Rachel come down at the bottom but skim as much as you like.

Definitely it is every bit as important to vote in a nonswing state. The popular vote is important, as far as giving the winner a mandate, and of course, every area has statewide and local elections and issues. Everyone should go vote. Thanks for the link . . . very nice. I always liked McGovern. I don't think Obama gets the credit he deserves for his bravery, either. First, to think he could smash that color barrier and become POTUS, then to run and to do the job when it is so obvious that he has angered very dangerous, very crazy people in doing so . . . it amazes me, and I admire it very much. He's done no less than put his life on the line. He doesn't talk about it, and no one does, but for both him and Michelle, it takes so much - guts, character, hard work, endless perseverence, and bravery. I agree I MUST take the girls to the polls - if they don't end up staying with me and have to go home, they may never get another opportunity. I could tell you stories of the astounding number of things they have no exposure to, but I'm not allowed to say much at this point. And it's the simplest things - not just stuff that is due to poverty. My family was poor, too. This is so much more than not knowing what caviar is, e.g.- it is heartbreaking. My parents barely spoke English, were very poor, and had grade school educations. Yet at their age, I knew much more about my surroundings than these two do.

Conspiracy theory about how Obama engineered the storm to help win the election - Rachael posted this on FB: Engineered StormI just wish Obama had been smarter about which counties in Ohio are the most likely to have difficulties! He's left the reddest part of the state alone, and the bluest parts with troubles! He needs to work on the "genuis" part of "evil genius."

Dear Media, et all:
Re: "It all comes down to Ohio blue collar auto workers."
If this election weren't so evenly divided elsewhere Ohio wouldn't matter in the least.
Tip it 5 or 4 or 3 or possibly even 2 overall percentage points in the direction of either candidate and there really wouldn't be any "swing" states at all.
This country is so incredibly split right down the center -- especially because many on each side cannot understand AT ALL the appeal of the other candidate. Don't believe him, don't trust, etc.
Remarkable, really that it is so close.
I've heard folks say that the 2 party system doesn't serve us well. I agree that the media needs to do a better job of seeking out and advertising other viewpoints and suggestions. BUT I'm not sure we would be better served by more divisions.
I also read an interesting piece on what would happen if there were no electoral college (wish I could find the link): If it were all about the popular vote then the R would only campaign in red states and try to maximize his popular vote in Texas and the south, etc while the D would whip up his base in CA and the east coast and only work to divide the country more. At least under the current system both candidates are having to appear in the same locations and make their competing cases to a common population.
I hadn't thought of this and think it is actually an excellent argument. No system is perfect and going to only popular vote would create the problem above and also lead to constant re-counting in any state with a reasonably close outcome.
[Meanwhile, I can only put my faith in Nate Silver's statistics.]

OK, so I made the mistake of getting mired in a political discussion with one of my cousins on Facebook. And at the risk of pulling a muscle patting myself on the back, I kept it clean; I said I disagreed with Romney's policies; I did not call him an pompous, privileged, out of touch wanker. What I found hilarious is how quickly the other side degenerated into all the usual talking points: 1) we talked smack about George Bush, so Obama is fair game; 2) I stand for "real American values," not "socialism"; 3) liberals think any critique of President Obama is racist. Etc Etc.
They really need some new talking points.

How about that Chris Christie so openly "palling around" with Obama? Even praising him on Fox News?
Now, I don't doubt his sincerity, as NJ is really in trouble and I'm sure he cares and appreciates Obama's support and help. But I can't help believing he is also loving being able to stick it to Romney.
