Happy birthday, Karen!! Thank you, Michelle! I had missed this portion of the Tony's. What a great award show! NPH rocked the house. He and Hugh Jackman should host all award shows 4EVAH. Preferably in tandem.

Speaking of celebrations....I just read this: "While Vancouverites reacted to the riots on Twitter, Bostonians celebrated their win on the social media site. But many tweets weren't just about hockey, they were about astronomy. That's because last night was the first time there's been a total lunar eclipse since October 27, 2004. That's when the Boston Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years. So the lunar eclipse predictions were true ...every lunar eclipse a sports team from Boston wins!" Dec. 10 is the next one. Is there a Boston college football team?

I'm back, everybody. Boards went well, I think; won't know anything until for sure for about 4-6 weeks. Thanks for the well wishing, everybody. Also had a lovely visit with Sue while I was in Nashville. I'm about a month behind what's going on in the real world, and it's going to take me a little while to catch up. I believe that congratulations are in order for Erin, and I think there's other and that need to be distributed, but I can't remember to whom at the moment. Anyway, I'm free until 8/1. I'm staying here until the end of the month, after which point I'll be a wandering nomad. Down Charleston to visit my parents for the 4th, then up to the Northeast, Adirondacks, NYC, South Shore of Boston, possibly Vermont (if S'cubies are wanting a visit?), then taking the scenic route (US-30 aka The Lincoln Highway) west to Wyoming.

SUE: I was aware of the Supernatural convention at the Opryland hotel because I was there for it. ;D We had a blast, and that hotel is my favorite hotel I've ever stayed at, it was like a dream. And I've already got my ticket for the convention there next year, as well.

Warning: if you get chickens, do not join the BackYardChickens forum: there are people there who have too many chickens, and soon you will end up with their surplus and have even more chickens. EEK! Julia, but, you know, Lemon Blue Cochins, to whit:

Most of you won't see this until after the fact, but here is the live-stream of Northwestern Commencement (students have just started processing in at 10:25). Colbert is the commencement speaker but I can't pinpoint when he will speak. It takes the grads about 20 minutes just to get seated. Then the president speaks and honorary degrees. Could be an hour from now? commencement2011.at.northwestern.edu/offcampus/

>snip< That's one beautiful chicken. Not going near the fryer, that bird. Nossir! Maybe eggs, though. I'm trying to figure out if I really want more chickens as soon as the person who will trade potroast and hamburger for chicken wants to get rid of hers. I need to get caught up on a lot of stuff that got screwed up during our insanely cold rainy spring, not to mention the projects (and laundry) I'm not doing this week, what with the pain in the diodes all down my left side. They're pretty, but the social pressure I'm getting from the BYC state board to acquire more chickens more quickly than I can cope is... unhelpful. Unbelievable .... the NU prof introducing Stephen Colbert for his honorary degree started the intro by saying "with the Colbert report you have ...blah blah"
except he pronounced it: Colber ReporT and the student crowd groaned loudly.
The speaker truly had no clue what faux pas he had committed until someone behind him correctly him (picked up by the mic: "it's Colber Repor."
During the extended silence will the speaker was trying to figure what he'd done wrong and before the stage whisper correction first Stephen just stood there and then, with a big grin, he threw his mortarboard to the ground and "stormed off" to great amusement. He came right back.
It wasn't staged because there are about 6 honorary degrees being presented to really impressive people and the poor guy doing it was non-plussed (?) when the crowd groaned.
