Tossing credit for the Xander quote back to Michelle. *takes deep bow* Thank you, ma'am. And sorry Karen, I might be in the minority, and lord knows it wouldn't be the first time, but I never really much cared for the line "I like the quiet." Xander? Is not quiet. Xander? Likes to babble. Xander? Is the king of witty repartee and humorous non sequitur. Whoever wrote that line for Xander liked the line because at that moment Xander was being heroic and badass, but didn't really care if it applied to Xander. Hi bb! Yeah..I get ya. I don't really know why that line stuck with me. It does seem non-Xander like. Although, I think it might speak to the fact that because his homelife was so loud, that he might like to escape to the quiet at times because of it. It's a puzzle.

Erin - If it makes you feel any better (or any less badly, anyway), I was rejected by the University of Washington, where I got my Ph.D., for a Genetics LECTURERSHIP (so, non-tenure-track) the same year as SJSU hired me. With not QUITE a form letter; the guy rejecting me was someone who knew me, so he took a minute to write a personal e-mail. But, still. They don't always know what's good for them. I think that was an internal hire, actually. Happens all the time - they want someone specific, they tailor the ad for that person, but they have to take applications from the wider world. It always seemed like at least half the University jobs - faculty or admin - were of this nature. They were posting the job because they had to but they actually already knew who they were going to hire.

It would be such a convenient way for everyone to read it though - Erin wouldn't have to collect email address and such. I could have only the link to the file on the website, so the file itself (say, a pdf file) would not be searchable by a search engine. And I could put that link on a url that would only be shared here . . Surely, simply storing your file out in "the cloud," for beta readers only to access, is not considered publication . . .? There are places like sharehub.com/ that I think can be used for this purpose also . . . Anyhow, I would love to see your work, Erin. if the public can read it, then it is published that means any kind of website if anyone who stumbled on it could read it even if the chance of stumble was low if you need a password to see it, or it is sent direct to a few friends, it is not public yet. that sharehub place looked okays, in the two seconds I looked at it. private sharing is still okays. the big problem is the definitions are changing fast enough you pretty much have to be really paranoid to make sure you haven't ruled any markets out. nobody wants to buy what they could access for free, is the theory, including editors or print publishers or whoever. the other problem, if you're using a pseud or screen name, is proving that work that has appeared elsewhere before is in fact yours to sell. There's a lot on writer websites and assorted publisher pages about this, and it don't often agree in the details. personally I don't reckon anyone wants to buy my stuff either way, so I stick it on my blog. there's people who do that, edit according to feedback, make a nice pretty epub copy, and sell that. or do the self publish thing. Wow, I had no idea it was complex, but I can see how it get complicated very quickly.

I must disagree - The Zeppo is very carefully written. Can't write more right now as the younger is hanging on me . . .

Well, I finished a conference paper. Currently SUCKS, but I've left enough time 'til the conference to make it at least suck less. It's on Dollhouse. Of course. You know, I use the word "Whedon" so much that my spellcheck should recognize it by now. And hey! Proboards spellcheck doesn't recognize "proboards" or "spellcheck" as words. Hee!

Hey ho, all! Are we all fired up for Project Runway tonight? Yes! My younger one, the 12 yr old, begged to join me for our game, so I am going to let her. Her usual bedtime is 9PM.

So, our challenge is ...
tasteful outfic inspired by a gelato flavor. Hmmmmmm.
Blueberry!! A short dress, but with a rounded shape in a lovely deep blue!! And a stem hat! ;D
Passionfruit would awesome too. The pale yellow color and it could be a very passionate design - sweeping and elegant and over the top dramatic and romantic!!
