Also, since I was snark-enabled yesterday, Another night of insufficient sleep, another day of double drag-ass. Julia, also, need to get everything done by 3pm because I have an eye appointment back! I don't know, I liked yesterday's post too! Hope everything goes OK with the eye doctor. Just a routine contact lens/glasses/diabetic eye health yearly check-up. Except for the stuff they can't do anything about (osteoarthritis bad enough to make me hurt but not bad enough for major interventions) I'm ridiculously healthy for my diagnoses these days. Julia, except for also the massive sleep deprivation

So I took the girls to the polls with me yesterday afternoon. When we drove up toward the polling place, I pointed out the directional signs and the flags, and also how the political signs had to be a certain distance away. Once we got in, they watched the poll worker check my name and signature and such, and then they listened to her give me my voting instructions. I asked if the girls could watch me vote, and she said yes. So they went into the little kiosk with me, and watched me fill in the ovals with black ink. We use paper ballots that you fill out, then feed into the scanning machine. They asked questions and were surprised by how many names were listed for president, and by the fact that you could write in a name. They also saw that there were several people running unopposed. In the back were the Issues, and one was a school tax levy, which interested them. They asked some questions on the ride home, and even the elder one, who had expressed disdain, started to sound like she just MIGHT be interested in voting when she got old enough. So no matter what happens with these two in the long run, I'll know that I've given them exposure to things they'd otherwise know little to nothing about. Man, this is such a wonderful thing. I'm so glad that you were able to do this, and they got something out of the experience.

I have to say that the emergency medicine rotation really wreaks havoc on your sleep cycles. And making travel plans for interviews is going to drive me crazy. So far I'm going to Pocatello ID, Billings MT, and Rapid City SD in December. (Also one in Fort Collins CO, date TBD, but that's close, so I'm not concerned.) Fly or drive? Fly or drive? That is the question. I always prefer driving, but it's risky in the event of bad weather. Of course, flights get delayed and canceled all the time. And I'll have to fly out of Denver, so that makes things more complicated. Hang in there, Liz! Best luck on the emergency rotation! Thanks! Hey, did you notice that I started posting in the farscape thread again? Just in case you were still interested in playing.

So, I'm studying in my room a little while ago, when all of a sudden, a shock wave type sensation blows through the convent. And I'm thinking, "If I were still living in CA, I would have thought that was an earthquake." ("The convent is haunted" thought passed through my mind, too. ) Then a while later, I check facebook and see chatter from my friends in the area, and realize that it actually was an earthquake. In Whitesburg, KY, 4.3 less than 30 miles from here.

Northwestern lost a very entertaining game vs. MI. Vandy plays tonight for a chance to win 4 SEC games in one season (done twice since 1955).

With the girls here and our weekly trek to Sylvan in WV every Sat, it just isn't happening. I do check the scores, and I like the year the Buckeyes are having with their new coach, but just no time to truly watch and follow as I used to. Had to testify in court about the girls on Friday. Cannot share any more info, but will say we are having challenging times.

Castle.! That song at the end, was that Shatner? Because it sure sounded like Shatner to me, and I know he did an album once. ETA: Yep, according to IMDB, it was. Also, here is some other fun from the episode. The writers didn't miss a trick. Help, Paul is watching the five hours of election coverage on CNN that he asked me to record on Tuesday evening. Eeeee, run away, run away!

First frost of fall last night. Just the center of the back yard, by the time I got out there, but still, it's kind of early. Brrrrrr.
