Cold, rainy, dreary. We finally got winter. It blew in New Year's Eve and apparently has decided to stick around for a while. You Nothern S'cubies would laugh at what we call winter, but remember we have 100/100 summers here, so for us it's COLD.
Personally, I'd enjoy the cold part if it came with, say, a little snow and that nice, crisp feeling. Alas, ours is cold, rainy, dreary and, oh yes, humid.

Hola!
Back from NYC. Easy trip (well for driving 17 hours in a truck). Good weather, little traffic, no getting lost. Kids unloaded truck. Returned. Unpacked boxes in apt. I flew back last night.
Allie and I wrote LONG list of "need to do for wedding right now" stuff.
We ordered a wedding dress. I know it is her favorite so far but she's wanting someone to be "wowed" and it's just different enough that it takes some time to appreciate. But she's really comfortable in it so we've got it ordered and she'll be happy if she finds nothing else she likes better.
Jim did lots of collecting Christmas stuff into one area but with allie's move out and all the visitors there is still stuff in everyroom that either needs to be packed up, returned, washed, beds changed, boxes and atticked, or just moved to another room. Now hall is impassable.

I should be using you as a role model, but my thing right now is that I really need to have someone assigned to follow me around and make sure I EAT during the run up to the wedding, so I don't end up lowing out at an inconvenient moment. Julia, having a really bad habit, in company, of talking and not eating and ending up about ready to pass out.

S'cubies, apply good vibes as needed. Well, I went for a walk to the shopping center this morning, in the Santa Ana winds, brrrrrrr whooosh. Then I ran errands in My Own Car. After which I came home and basically fell over, oh well. I can vacuum tomorrow. There's always tomorrow for vacuuming. PS I applied for a street parking permit for 2013, but haven't heard back from the city yet. If there are any good vibes to spare, I could use a few - they think we have both a garage and two cars'-worth of parking on the driveway. We have neither. The "garage" is a storage room off the den with a pseudo-garage-type roll-up door, no ramp, and it's too small for a modern car. The driveway is long enough for two cars, barely, but the first car is crammed up against the wall of the house on one side and a large tree on the other. I'm too old to go crawling over the seats like a monkey so I can clamber out the back of the car, and the hatch doesn't open from the inside anyway. PPS The Younger Daughter has started watching Nero Wolfe (Timothy Hutton! Kari Matchett! Saul Rubinek!), and she's already charmed. She's saving Serenity until she has a large block of time.

Hooray for Own Carness despite limited parking. Can you park on the grass or is there some kind of ordinance against it? I encountered Los Angeles unfortunate parking problems two years ago when I went to Paleyfest. Parking is generally fairly easy everywhere except downtown here. Most large companies, shopping areas and so forth build large lots to accomodate their business.

Brrrrrr.

Take the usual errands, chores, paperwork, med appts and add in post-Christmas de-decorating, laundry for 7 guests, and wedding planning:
rinse repeat rinse repeat
Of course I had the ultimate fan football weekend with bowl wins by both Vanderbilt and Northwestern!

Cranky.
Slept in. Ran out of sunshine before I ran out of jobs.
Also Stewie broke two orchid pots, damn it.
Julia, also, cranky.

Hey ho, who's ready for Project Runway?
I'm all rested up after being sent home from work early 'cuz a big water main break downtown meant no water up on our floor. Sweet!
I mean, actually it's a very unfun thing, the water main break thing. But time off work? Still a good thing!

Ok, we're on the deck of the Intrepid ... we're being paired with a female veterans with distinguished service ... design a non-uniform custom outfit for a special event .... and the event is a military special event for the woman who has lost one leg and has a service dog (she wants a girly outfit and still likes wearing heels and animal print), or a 40th birthday event (woman who wants a long dress), one woman is going to a best friend's bachelorette party (short fun outfit - she likes yellow), and the last woman is going to a wedding (she likes purple and she likes Uli's long flowy dress). Gosh! Who do we pick?!

We could do a composite outfit that give all of them what they want!
So, a skirt that is long on one side and short on the other in a purple animal print, with a yellow bodice - put her in heels and give her a service dog who's wearing a fab hat!
Or is that, you know, koo-koo for cocopuffs?
