I found this one rather bizarre. I'm going to need more story before I decide whether I like it or not.
All of a sudden we're talking about the kiss of true love and Buffy's sexual fantasies? Not that I mind, it just seemed rather abrupt.
Buffy being tied down spread eagled on the bed in a revealing negligee is a very disturbing image.

IMHO, I think it's important to remember that we're dealing with Amy here. Last time we saw her, what was she doing? Taking revenge on Willow with a spell that made Willow create her own punishment. So, I have to wonder - is something similar going on here? Are the dreams that Buffy is having, the images she's seeing, being fed by Buffy's own fears or issues?

Things I really liked about this "ep" * Giles! We got to see Giles! Loved that he's musing on the change in dynamic - from one slayer with many watchers to many slayers and not so many watcher. Also, I was very happy that what he is teaching, and what Buffy is teaching teaching, is all about working together rather than alone. That's what made Buffy successful. (What Andrew is teaching is hysterically funny, and sort of fits the theme, but not entirely. ;D ) * Snark and snappy dialog! Buffy with the "sidebar" about hair; Andrew's riff on Lando Calrissian's costume issues; Xander dissing Amy's sacrificial dagger; even the suit working with Amy and his comment that neither hung nor hanged really work for him. ;D * Action! Several chances to see what it means that there are lots of slayers. The en masse training session at the start, the battle with the zombies at the end. Exciting! * Willow! Woot! Fab mirror of Giles' reappearance at the end of season 6. Sooooo looking forward to the next comic.

I want a novel-length comic every month--that's not too much to ask of Joss, is it? ;D The thing with Buffy and her dreams and Xander and the true love stuff had me going WTF? until, as Lola said, I remembered that Amy was around. When Amy is around, things may not be as they seem. And Andrew!! Squeeee!!! I'm such an Andrew fangirl. ;D I am almost literally bouncing off the walls and gleefully crying after reading this. Our Scooby-family is back!!!

My thoughts
Loved the Giles intro, he watching the group of slayers training, all while drinking his tea. Classic Giles.
STAR WARS references! Love the Star Wars talk from Andrew!
The fact that the "suit" said that nuking Buffy would get them Noticed, Indicted, then Hung, leads me to believe that even though these people look military, they are not, or they are very top secret and cant be noticed.
Ok, they keep referring to Amy's boyfriend as a monstrosity, or disgusting, and now Really Gross. I am starting to lean toward Warren. My reason is after he was skinned alive by Willow his skinless body vanished into thin air. Who is to say Willow did that. It could have been Amy that made Warren dissapear from the woods after being skinned alive by Willow. She could have kept him alive by magic and what would be more gross than a person with no skin.
I dont see it being Adam, for the simple fact that I cant see him "Loving" or "being someones boyfriend" because the writers did lead us to believe that Amy and this person had sex.
I about freaked when I saw the last line on the page being Buffy asking Xander if he was "coming to bed!" Part of me was thrilled that Xander finally wound up with Buffy. Part of me was curious how Joss was going to actually make it believable.
LOL at Xanders baby chicken PJs.
so trenchcoat man, what are your thoughts? Angel or Spike?
It was hard for me to tell , but I got the impression that Renee might have bit the big one during the battle with the undead.
which if that is the case kinda closes the case on a possibility of a Xander/Renee relationship.
Overall. I LOVED this one more than the first one.
The conversations were better. More indepth, more detail. It felt more like an episode than the first one did. Maybe because I am paying more attention to the detail, but it felt much longer than the first one did. I am so looking foward to the big Willow/Amy battle coming up in the next issue.

My thoughts Loved the Giles intro, he watching the group of slayers training, all while drinking his tea. Classic Giles. Sooo Giles. Andrew wouldn't be Andrew without trying to put a Star Wars or Lord of the Rings or some such type of spin on virtually anything he is doing, would he? ;D **nods** Which is how I always imagined the Initiative to be, so it would fit if this is a form of re-invented Initiative. Eeeeeep! That is a truly TRULY scary idea. Hee! I'm interested in seeing what direction they go with this. Is the dream Buffy is trapped in being affected by her own feelings or fears? We know that in the first comic she was talking about how she wants to be with someone again, so . . . OMG, those were the perfect PJs! ;D Or deliberately making us think of either Angel or Spike and really being neither? Or perhaps the figure is unclear to Buffy too? Maybe she is working out how she feels in her dream-state? I can't tell if we were being shown just the magnitude of the battle, serious threat and injuries, etc. Or if that was a finale for her. Eetah! The conversations felt more . . . BtVS-esque. The use of language, the intercutting of scenes, the characters, etc. And you're right, it felt longer, even though I know that in reality it is about the same length. Next one is gonna be kick-ass, I can tell!

I enjoyed this issue more than the first. I agree with many of the comments already made. I'm a very reluctant comic book reader. I have a hard time with the abrupt transitions from scene to scene: there's no fade out/fade in, change in music cues, etc., that there is on screen. But, I imagine I'll get used to that over time. I don't think I'm the only one having a problem recognizing who is who though, someone commented elsewhere that they wished all the characters wore name tags! It's a little ironic that I liked this issue because it focused on some of my least favorite characters on the show. I never liked Amy. I'm not sure I can pinpoint exactly why--she just bugged me. The Potentials were a giant pain in my ass in Season 7. I'm not a fan of Andrew either, I'm sorry to say. I know some people love him, so I won't go into details about my feelings about him. But I've just decided to kind of go with the flow and enjoy the ride. This might not be "my" Buffy, but it's a story by Joss that features a girl called Buffy, and it has the great Joss dialogue, so I guess I can be happy with that. Beggars can't be choosers, as they say. The fact that the characters don't really look much like they did on the show helps me to disassociate a bit. Does anyone find it strange that Xander is counseling Dawn while she takes a bath?

I think it's way to early to know what exactly (I try to avoid making firm decisions until something is completed, unlike some people on lj), but the way Buffy and company are running seems like a really bad idea. Since they've got technology, they're traceable, and they are way more centralized than I think they should be. Also, I thought they decided that the traditional army idea was a bad idea in season 7. I was expecting a sort of cooperative autonomy among the Slayers, not Buffy to be leading everybody else still. That being said, there were things that I liked. Buffy's "exponentially prefixy" ramble, for example and a lot of other funnies. And Willow showing up at the end. And what about GiantDawn stomping out the zombies? That could work. Also, I, for one, don't have a problem with the artwork, BTW.

Well, for me it's kind of weird. I really don't like it when actors are replaced to play the same characters in tv and movies. I didn't like how there were two actresses that played Nikki, for example. However, in theater, you have different actors play the same character all the time. There are numerous versions of certain movies, and certain iconic characters that appear all over art, portrayed by various actors and illustrations. In reality, actors and illustrations resemble the characters, not the other way around. On the other hand, traits of the actor often become traits of the character, particularly on a work in progress tv show, so in those cases, it becomes a little more complicated. I think it's a very debateable point. So, do the drawings in the comic look like the actors? Vaguely. Do the drawings resemble the characters? Personally, I think so.

The coat just looks like Spike's coat. Now, from the letters and replies in the back of the book, I got the following information: "Spike and Angel wo't just be mentioned-next issue you're gonna get an image burned into your head that I suspect many of you are not gonna want to get rid of." This was in response to a letter from a Bangel, so my theory could be full of crap.

Now, what about military man having the same scarrification on his chest that the "sacrifices" from episode 1 had? He may be military, but he's also deep into something else and not exactly on the military's normal radar images. Obviously, there's a connection there.
Loved the Joss dialogue and Willow's appearance echoing Giles' at the end of Season 7 rocked my world.
