I loved the continuity with Ethan and the military holding cell. Also? The numbers on the door. I don't think that Buffy is at war with the human race. That symbol on the general's chest indicates that something other-wordly or dimensional is running this show and using the military as puppets to destroy the Slayers and the entire line. (Again.) I don't doubt what he believes, but he has been brainwashed. **nods** Yup. He thinks he's saying the truth, but the mark on his chest indicates otherwise to me. I can't decide if they are parts of her, like layers that she discovered when she went evil and that she always is dealing with . . . or if they are actual entities that are waiting to see which direction she'll go. Like, if she'll choose to go bad or to ascend to be a Power or something. I'm currently 50/50 split between thinking it was Willow and thinking it was Satsu. ;D I was also totally loving the little bear head on Satsu's shoulder. ;D **nods big time**

I agree, Jeff, that indications are very strong that Willow is the one who kissed Buffy, evidenced by the mystical bond that appeared to manifest itself in this issue. More thoughts on this issue later as time permits. Got my copy in the mail today. I know that for a cynic, I can be hopelessly sentimental, and that this is the sort of wooly-headed thinking that gets people eaten, but I think Willow kissed Buffy, too. After all, I don't think there was anything that said that the love had to be sexual in nature, or requited, for that matter. ;D

Okay I finally found these threads. I was just wishing I could talk to someone about the comics and had this D’oh moment and thought, “well of course the s’cubies are discussing this.” I’m a doofus. **grins and bounces** Yes!! We love having another person to babble about discuss the comics with us! Well, I still can't find the great explanation that someone posted on LJ, but I'll try to give my, rather shaky, understanding of it. Basically, it's that the creator/owner of the rights to Buffy has rights to the characters. But the actors have rights to their exact image/representation. In the middle-ground, the comic folks have a "limited" right to image of the character as portrayed by the actor. There is, I guess, an actual spelled out number of "points of similarity" (features, proportion, etc.) that, if you go over that number you are infringing on the actor's exact image, but if you are under that, then it is OK. And it's complicated by where the image is being provided (cover versus pages, action figure versus other items, etc.) and by the actual contract or agreement that each actor has. Some cost more than others, etc. etc. And I even got the impression that sometimes the rights are even complicated by rules like "if you use so and so's image, then you also have to use this other person's". That's the best of my recollection, sorta. I'm finding it very intriguing to see what they do with poses or angles that the characters hold themselves in, turn of a head, etc. - to help give you the vibe of that person without actually looking exactly like them. That is proving the hardest part for me! I'm done with the comic in no time and immediately going "I want morrrrrrre!" ;D Re-reading helps, but I still find myself wanting more story. It's weird. I've gotten 4 issues now. 2 of them came after they'd been on the stands for a while and 2 came right away. 'Tis a mystery!

I don't doubt what he believes, but he has been brainwashed. I'm waiting to find out more about Dawn the Thricewise, btw. We don't see Dawn nearly enough. And, who were those entities with whom Willow was conversing while Warren was busy lobotomizing her? Gyah! Loved the reference back to Amy's worst nightmare being her mother and the rendition was perfect! I do not think that Xander kissed Buffy, but I'm not yet sold on Willow being the one. I'm going to have to re-read to see if I pick up any more clues. And, how perfect was it that on the verge of going into battle Buffy was asking for lipgloss because she was "cracky" and then commenting on the flavor? LOL! So, was Buffy's black-eyed mojo from the witches at the HQ or is it the part of Willow that is always with her? I noticed the similarity between Buffy's comment about the general hating the words "women and power" in the same sentence with his comment the other day about that awful movie and the wide-spread misogyny in the world. He will always rock my world. That comment about the lipgloss was sooo Buffy - but also maybe a clue as to who kissed her, because Buffy commented that the flavor was 'cinnamon', and when she was kissed, the first thing she said when she woke up was 'cinnamon buns'. I think the Chinese slayer was the one who kissed her. **bounces** Yep!! That's why I'm torn between her and Willow as the person! Well, he's a clever guy like that, isn't he?

Okay I finally found these threads. I was just wishing I could talk to someone about the comics and had this D’oh moment and thought, “well of course the s’cubies are discussing this.” I’m a doofus. General comments~ I’m ambivalent about the art. Certain panels will be fantastic, then there will be a scene I think is hideous, or superficial, or very sketchy and undeveloped. Or just BAD. I need to educate my comic-eye I suppose. (Lola, if it isn’t too difficult to explain, WHY are the characters not permitted to look much like their originals?) The “voice” is excellent. Dialogue and clever quippiness and not quite non-sequitur asides and the overall wit and all. Thanks Joss. I too hate the “done in ten minutes” experience. I’ve decided to reread each episode as a new one arrives. At least for now. Lol I should learn to be happy with the good I have and not allow it to cause me to pine for a different good…but damn, instead of satisfying my desire for Buffyverse action, the comics are making me miss Buffy all over again. I still haven’t received Part IV. Why does the local Borders have the issue before a subscriber? Hi, KM! Here's an interview with the comic's artist. It gives you some insight as to why the characters don't look too much like the actors. It's very much a Joss-thing, to have them not look exactly like the actors, and from what I've read, he's very happy with the characterizations so far. Glad you found this thread! Heeee! Well, now this is much more straightforward and clear than my long-winded, confusing, and likely mostly not-right explanation. ;D

I did not like this one quite so much. I was suspecting this would be the case. I'm not counting Ethan out yet, myself. There's just so many other possibilities. **nods a lot** This is a very complicated and emotional scenario for Andrew. Yes, the freedom of comics definitely means freedom in a lot of directions . . .

I think the Chinese slayer was the one who kissed her. Joss - it was almost like he timed the comic's first 4 story arc with the upcoming Serenity viewings and the fundraisers for Equality Now. Which I think is damn awesome! I think you are onto something with the cinnamon. Buffy looks thoughtful after tasting it and recognizing the flavor. This reinforces my notion that I have to read all the eps together with each installment. I'm forgetting things and missing some of the comic continuity, focusing on the television show continuity. I think after the wait, when the next comic comes, I'm going to first re-read these 4 issues and then read my new one.

The next issue is going to be a stand alone story, according to the comments at the back of issue 4. I was totally spoiled for the new character by the Dark Horse website - so don't go there and look at the cover for the next issue. Very cool, is all I'll say. Very. ;D

I did not like this one quite so much. I like it much better when I'm the one turning him into a ghost. what, you think Ethan is ended? he's way too much fun. plus we know he was climbing around in dreamspace, and we also know that the Eyghon-sleepwalker lot shared dreams, so turning up in Giles' dreamspace would be easy. ... yeah, this is my first thought ... I really didn't like that panel with the deadness. Becca, you are now so associated in my mind with Ethan that my first thought when I got to that panel was: "Oh, man. How is Becca going to react to this?" ;D with my very well practiced straw-grasping/denial loop my first fandom was Highlander: I got online after deciding I was really and truly a Richie Ryan fan and the first thing I found out about him... required immediately joining Clan Denial. So I'm in the habit.

Warren being back - no problem Warren never having been dead - problem - First
Body modification, including tattoos (knights of byzantium) and scars (these twilight guys), are very old human techniques. Most symbols are human symbols. Presence of symbols says nothing about presence of mystical. In logic world. In Buffy world you never know.

The different beings in Willow's refuge reminded me of the Green and Red as established in the DCU - plant and animal kingdoms, basically. Each has a representative in the world and a big realm of their own with Powers in it. The others not so much reminding, but one seemed all words - thought? - and another was sort of watery. Reckon they're a collection of PTB, earth connected witchy ones.

That's been bothering me since he was revealed and we were told he was saved from death by shock just in the nick of time, by Amy. That does not compute and appears violative of everything we were told in the series about TFE.

I suppose he might have been dead for a second and brought back to life by Amy. Did he specifically say that he never died? I've been wondering what it is about Warren that makes him (in Joss's mind) such a good nemesis for Buffy. Another think I liked about this issue was the highlighting of the importance of 'moms'. Dawn feels like Willow is her surrogate mother, and Willow used Amy's issues with her mom to defeat her.

What if Warren is really dead and this "Warren" is a minion of TFE that has taken on his appearance? I'd expect Warren to be a nemesis for Willow, not Buffy - his actions led to Willow losing control, going all black-eyed and veiny and nearly destroying the world. So it would make sense that Willow would be haunted by her memories of Warren and her own actions. Anne, this would make more sense if I was awake
