One thing that "Hush" definitely proves is Joss Whedon's ability to encorporate metacritical elements into Buffy (and Angel, at times) that 1) don't overwhelm the text of the show, if you will and 2) don't fall into the trap of wink-wink, hey viewer how smart are you?
This excerpt from your essay "The Gentlemen (and what they represent –the extreme in polite society, the establishment) disempower and discourage their pool of possible victims by removing their voices – before they ultimately silence their victims by death" was chilling in its relateability to the current situation in the world. Most excellent insight; I only have 2 left of the ones you've written so far.

You can watch an episode and just enjoy it on the surface - great funny lines, and/or scary stuff, and/or dramatic story . . . or you can delve into the layers. Most of the Buffy scripts - and most definitely those written by Joss - barely waste a word. Once I've "caught on" to the basic themes, I realize they are reflected in every line, and almost every word . . yet the story hangs together, on the invisible web. Thanks for your feedback, eg. I have such a big job ahead of me getting through to Season 7, and it helps me keep going to get some feed back.
