Loved your review of this episode. I rewatched it last nite and I don't know if it's me or not, but Angelus seems a lot different now then back in the day. Even when he came back in Season 2 of Buffy. Maybe it's more noticeable to me since I've just rewatched Season 2 of Angel. Angelus seems much more the loose cannon now and not as good of a planner. Maybe it's all those years being supressed by the soul. He just seems more psychotic.
I loved his fight scenes with Faith at the end and him talking with the Beastmaster was great. He's such a strong character and finally having to submit to the Beastmaster was something to behold.

Nan, very good job with your review. Your emphasis on limits and deceptions pretty much defined what's been going on and will continue to in this story arc, and what makes it such an interesting and enjoyable part of the season. I enjoyed your pointing out how these issues were played out in Connor especially, maybe because as he was my least favorite character, I didn't see them so clearly in him in watching the episode.

But he's unwillingly collared and leashed (as Spike was by the First) and has no means of freeing himself. This clearly puts him VERY off balance. Were he only dealing with Faith and the AI crew, I think he'd have some of his old Big Bad mojo going for him. Now, he just snipes from the sidelines and doesn't even kill anybody (except the Beast). Nice job on the review, Nan. I don't have a lot to say on the episode because well . . . I confess, hanging my head . . . I didn't see it.
But that doesn't mean I can't recognize a nicely written review when I read it.
I decided to read it more to get a feel for what your reviews would be like than anything else, and . . . brava! Strikes me as just right in approach, length, style, etc.
I am more excited than ever about the new Season and about our beautiful little S3 site. People will be checking the next day, waiting for Nan Dibble's "Angel Investigations" reviews just as they used to wait for Hunter's. I liked Hunter, but I like your style better - meatier . . . more . . . concentrated and focused on what implications of what went on in the episode.
Oh goody! The way we are all working together and contributing to make this site what it is just makes my toes tingle (well, OK, the pics of James contribute a bit in this regard, too).

Really nice work Nan. You brought up a lot of points I hadn't considered in my initial viewing.
I too look forward to your weekly analysis!

Hi Nan - I'm here as a guest right now, being at work (and not remembering my login password which I have written down at home just so I don't have to remember it. ) I really like the idea of you becoming our "Hunter" - if that's what you have signed on for....? I know you were ready to volunteer for the ill-fated "Black Sash" show, but it crashed. Is this the plan? To provide S3 with weekly reviews/commentary for each "Angel" episode? I've managed to see only the last ten minutes of this particular "Angel" episode twice now. So I don't have a good grasp of the arc of the episode. I wonder about the Wesley character though. He seems less well drawn as a character than some of the others. Is he evil, or good, or is he totally messed up in his head, not knowing himself, who he is. Maybe I'm having trouble getting on board with Wesley because of his persona in "Buffy", but he just seems wobbly to me. Or like he's trying too hard to convince himself he's a hardass. It will be interesting to see what he does as a character in this new season. Alexandra

Right now, the embittered Wesley who believes in the school of hard knocks formed him into the fighter (and person) he is.
