Very Million Dollar Hotel. I like it already.
The cockroach. God as cockroach? Interesting.
10% of brain power. I don't think that's true.
Patient Zero.
What is the cheerleader's problem?
I LOVE Hiro.
I'm not talking about what you do; I'm talking about who you are.
Every hero must learn his purpose.
I understand that Hiro quotes the wrong issue of the comic he references.
Interesting discussion about being "special" of "different" in Japanese society. We are Japanese, not special.
"Super-Hiro" Hee.
Nope, Milo, you are a caretaker. That's a worthy destiny in and of itself.
Compare Japanese conversation with American Mother-daughter conversation.
New York being A-bombed?
Meaning in the smallest of moments
Similar to X-Men
Global story. (Eclipse as a global event) Kind of a Magnolia feel.
Dead fathers.
I wonder how accurate the non-US characters and scenes are.
Different people react to their superpowers in different ways.
Lots of people observing others. Video cameras.
Beautiful cinematography and music.

Just for kicks, a screencapture I made of the first time we see Niki walk past a mirror: Interesting, no?

*intones in a very hushed, thoughtful, cautionary voice*
If you had a secret, what would you do? If you could save the world, would you commit great sacrifice? Would you tell your secret? Would you be believed? If you had great power would you use it for good, for evil, for beneficence, for greed? Who could you trust? Would you wear tights?
*cough...ahem*
Oh, who knows? I only have one great power and I ain't talkin'. Wild horses couldn't drag it out of me! Let's just let it lie with it involves oil, vigorous motions and it leaves a lot of smiles and moans in it's wake. And no, it's not punning! That requires much less oil.
But our dear S'cubie, Sara, has a great power that everyone can enjoy. Okay, okay two. I mean she is, after all, The Planetary Voice Of Reason. But away from her day job, she also has an alter-ego... by night she becomes... The Reviewer!
Yes, dear S'cubies, we are adding ...
A welcome addition to our regular reviews, this delightful show has become "can't miss TV" for the board and mass audiences everywhere. And who better to review the first episode of this phenomenon than our sometimes caped and occasionally crusading Sara? Yes, dear readers, she will valiantly show you the way!
For your very first installment of the awesome review of this amazing show's premiere, leap on over to the S'cubie website and check in the HEROES: EMERGENCE Fortress of Solitude Bat Cave area. Make sure to thank and comment to this mighty champion, Sara, in the review thread located here. Don't forget your secret decoder rings! Hiro needs your help!

Tish! You quoted Disraeli! Heh. "Redecorated her garage" "Punch and Judy" I too dislike the opening narration by the NBC people, but I'm thinking of it as a temporary stopgap demanded by the network: a "get ever'one up to speed as economically as possible in these first few episodes" much akin to Giles' "One girl in all the world" narration I always FF through at the beginning of the Season One eps of BtVS. I don't think that the eclipse itself is a sign or portent of things, so much as it's just another... "just another" bizarre and amazing natural event: the SUN GOED AWAY! and then came back! type of thing. An amazing event and portent of world-changing, yes, but I think it's coincidental with the discovery of the powers, more than causative. Symbolic of them. Excellent review, Sara! Thank you for highlighting the use of red: I hadn't noticed it. Can't wait to see what comes next.

It is about dinosaurs! #claps# Kudos and thank you, Sara. I really enjoyed your review. I think what appealed to me the most about Heroes was (and continues to be) the emotional honesty of the responses of the various characters as they recognized/discovered and explored the parameters of their abilities. A big EETAH to that! Plus, every week we get a new mystery and a "OMG surprise" in the last few minutes of the episode. I loved that about Buffy.

Yay!! I'm so glad you guys are gonna be reviewing Heroes! I am very excited about this show too - like you, I'm getting that "love at first sight" happy feeling about it. ;D I really liked how you pulled out the main big picture storylines or "tales". Like pointing out that these first episodes the collective "origin story" for our superheros. I hadn't thought of them that way before and it really fits. Or making an excellent point about Mohinder. That he has a slightly different role, that of another kind of hero, one who goes on a quest. And, finally, we can't have heroes without someone to battle against, and thus we have villian(s). Nice structure to build your review around - brava, Sara! I look forward to all the great insights you guys will be bringing us.

Dude. You so ROCKED this review.
I loved the way you pointed out the emotinal honesty of everyone's reactions; you were spot on. And, as someone with a fairly basic knowledge of superhero stories (outside of the Whedonverse), I liked how you broke down the various types of "origin" stories.
Excellent work! Not the least of which because writing the first review is hard as hell...
