This one has Spike, enhanced human, working freelance for Wolfram and Hart under Angel's titular authority. Spike and Gunn run into a plague deadly to vampires, with humans or vampires as carriers. A W&H medical team investigates, perhaps with ulterior motives. Spike has misgivings, some of which relate to memories of an occurrence in Britain in 1888 involving Darla, Angelus, Spike, and Dru. It's titled "The Fever" by Elsa Frohman. Eight chapters have been posted at this point. It's at The Crypt. You need to look it up by author. The author's other work, some of which I've sampled, is also good. URL: www.the-crypt.net

Re Nan's post above. I remember visiting Elsa Frohman's site and reading everything on it. Also, I've been recently reading a lot of the stuff at: by "Treacle" Her stuff is not posted on allaboutspike, but her link is listed under the fanfic links. I've enjoyed "Diversion" which is post Grave. Spike is back with his soul and is also human. It's complete, but has a "Joss-type" ending, which leads you into it's sequel, "Detour" which I'm finding very interesting, but it is WIP. She also has a post-Chosen WIP called "No Mistakes". Spike is back human with amnesia. Here's a sample from "Detour": "And the day had been going so well. Might have known it couldn't last. For every bit of pleasure there had to be a reactive amount of pain and if last night was anything to go by, he was in for a whole world of shit now. Big dark glowery shit in the form of an ex-vampire, who, for some reason looked perfectly at home now on Buffy's sofa, drinking a soda. "Angel." tried to keep his voice light, friendly even, as he took the stairs as casually as possible, one at a time. "Spike." He was doing the same and it was no good trying to second guess his intentions, he'd retained enough from his vampire days to muster a good poker face when he had to. So what to do now? He wasn't really clued up on this kind of etiquette. What was the done thing when greeting your mortal girlfriend's ex-undead-ex-boyfriend these days? A handshake maybe? Scotch on the rocks? Sharp blow to the back of the neck?"

I also like the 1st story that preceded this one (Since The Fever is a sequel).

Betsy, which story precedes The Fever, that you're speaking of? Not Dead Man's Blues, which has an entirely different storyline.... Please enlighten me here.

Nan, it's Return to Sender . . . a couple of stories up from The Fever. It's 6 chapters. Apparently the Scoobies make a pit stop in LA to inform Angel and his gang what happened. There was another story I read last nite (or was it the wee hours this morning) was pretty good also that I found on www.the-crypt.net. It was by Anna and called Blood Rust. It's only 3 chapters and it's about Angel telling Connor how he turned Spike, but Connor realises there is a lot more to find out. A warning to Blood Rust . . . there is some NC 17 stuff in the last chapter. I'll have to get a list together of what I've read from The Crypt that I liked. I've found a lot of good stories there.

I just finished reading Thrall by Chase. It can be found at www.echonyc.com/~stax/Buffy/chase/index.htmHere's a description of the story. THRALL: WIP, NC-17 for language, adult themes, and heavy breathing between the Slayer and her undead paramour.
Story summary: Starts with the final scene of "Wrecked" and goes AU from there. While still trying to sort out her complex relationship with a certain blond vampire, Our Heroine discovers that the resurrection spell left her with much more than just a cellular sunburn. The news has far-reaching consequences for her relationships with both Spike and the Scoobies.
I found I couldn't put this story down. Only the first 9 chapters are posted and I emailed the author to find out about when additional chapters will be posted.

I've written the author commending this and asking to be put on an update list, if such exists. It's confident, assured, unsentimental, and powerfully emotional. Also hot stuff, for them what likes that sort of thing....

One is Angel/Spike . . . another where he goes to LA after escaping from the Initiative instead of to Buffy. One I'm reading now is about Spike for the last 120 years. I'll have to gather them all together and post them here. Probably not til tomorrow nite.

Betsy, if you like stories about a broken, beaten Spike I have one for you. You may not like it because its Xander/Spike, and boy is Xander mean. This story is very AU and its the complete opposite of their real personalities. If you are interested let me know.

I read an Angel/Spike one that about broke my heart. Sent the link to Lee H. Spike and Angel go back to Paris 1925. If you are interested I can send it you way too. I'm gonna get my readings in order and post them. A lot are NC17, but some are not. Also alot are Angel/Spike, but I do like the others. I read one this weekend that was Willow, Tara and Spike . . . I thought it was pretty good and there were parts that just cracked me up.

I'm reading a post-chosen story right now that has been pretty good. Buffy finds Spike 2 years later. I haven't finished it yet but its good so far. I hope I'm not disappointed in the end. Here's the link, it's on AllAboutSpike if I can't get my link to work. Still not too good with those. Heliotrope by Gwyneth Rhys www.allaboutspike.com/fic.html?id=619I just finished it. It ended well, it's not very long but it was good.
