Savoytruffle and Reremouse are both excellent writers. So when they get together and create something, you know it's going to be extraordinary. And so we have Not the End of the World, written for the Summer of Giles. It's Giles/Xander, but only barely. It's like a handful of delicate pencil sketches of an only slightly different season 5.

Lots of Gilesey goodness coming out of Summer of Giles. This time I'm reccing a Spike/Giles story, set between season 5 and 6 in a way that could actually fit within canon. Excellently written, but then, it's by Shadowscast, so that was to be expected. It Never Happened Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5Part 6Part 7Part 8The gang is trying to deal with Buffy's death. And Spike's dealing with even more.

Oh, Reremouse! How I love your S/X writing! A little piece of WIP that she started long ago has just turned into a wonderful post-apocalyptic fic. Wet (Things to do in Denver when you're dead). S/X, of course, since I'm rec'cing it. Wonderful snark, underwater Vegas, mules and goats and boats, oh my!

I have a soft spot for well written Xander/Larry. And when the author is Mireille, you know it's gonna be well written. Trapping the Wild Xander in Eight Easy StepsIn a somewhat AU season 3, poor Xander doesn't know what the hell is going on. ;D

Reremouse had a challenge for the Gunn Round of Male Slash Minis: and she threw 1350 words right at the bullseye. There's No Idealism In This Story but there is a whole lot of implied plot and character development, a two Yak coat, and one of the less convenient places ever to face an apocalypse. Julia, and I love the result

A new story in the "Reality Bends" verse, by Flaming Muse: A Process, not an Event is PG, unlike most of that very NC-17 tag fic, since it's a short while after the climactic attack and Wes is still recuperating. Spike makes him tea, and fusses, and it's finally a bit more than a proud adult can bear. Most of the story is a conversation between Angel and Spike, and it's warm and fuzzy all-round, and still completely in-character, with Angel on a good night and Wes just fed up with care-taker child Spike taking care of his lover as he did his sick old mother, back in the day. Julia, so very good, indeed

Today is the Drunken Gilesathon due-date; Mireille runs it and has posted a lovely, evocative story about a Solstice visitor and the application of magic: Longest Night of the Year post Chosen, post NFA, not quite the missing versions, but close enough is good to be getting on with. Giles/Wesley, PG or so. Julia, and a flame of comfort in the dark

I've been meaning to rec this for a while now, but just haven't made the time. Well, I delayed just enough to not have to put this on the WIP thread, because it finished up just a few days ago. Pivotal, by TooBusy2Write, is Spangel (like her other much loved multi-part fic, "Bent Justice", which I ashamed to admit I have never read - something I intend to rectify soon!). In her own summary, she says: I'd add that this has a believable relationship (classic movie "they start out hating each other and then fall in love" but done very well), a nicely plotted mystery/thriller storyline, and characters that are definitely their Buffyverse-selves but also totally fit the AU they are in.

Sweet and funny little Buffyverse/Bones X-over fic, Andrew/Zach - Orion Ale by Spikendru. Just barely slash, hand holding is about as far as anyone goes. Zach is my favorite character on Bones and I've always been fond of Andrew, so I enjoyed this one quite a bit - only thing I would have liked to see would have been even more funny. But how can you complain when you get gems like this: Zach: Cam made me cut my hair. She said no one would ever take me seriously with floppy hair. And yet, his is much longer and floppier than mine was! Dr Goodman: Yes. Well . . . different cultures embrace different normative values. Dr. Saroyan was concerned, I believe, about your status as an expert witness if called to testify as a forensics expert in court. In British courts, barristers wear robes and powdered wigs. Different cultural expectations. Zach: Take him home with me? You mean . . . like a pet? Dr Goodman: No, Dr. Addy, like a house guest. Haven't you ever had a friend from out of town stay with you as a house guest? Andrew: You made a joke! That was a good one. You're pretty funny when you're not all uptight and . . . watchtowery. Zach: Watchtowery? I don't think that's a real word. Andrew: The pamphlet people, not the Hendrix song. And what has to be the best Andrew line ever: He hasn't even had a chance to see anything, except pictures of dead bodies, really bad weather and a bunch of naked women. I ask you, is that how we want visitors to our fair shores to remember England?

More goodness coming out of the Spring with Xander celebration. Last year, Mireille brought us "The Full Xander Harris Experience" - a truly wonderful season 3 Xander/Larry story. This year? We get Variations on a Five Paragraph Theme. And really? We're continuing a larger exploration of "5 guys Xander dated in high school". This time it's Xander/Oz. And I absolutely love the format - a stroll through writing techniques.

What if it was the SGC that recruited Wesley after AtS s3, and not Wolfram and Hart? Waht if his unique set of skills and paintable beauty were on the sane Daedelus run that brought Major Evan Lorne USAF, to Atlantis? What would he look like, sparring with Teyla? And wouldn't we all like to see that in filmed form (well, I certainly would!) Learning Wesley by Allyndra, PG-15ish, WWP/EL, dandy too-short piece for my satisfaction, although barely within the word limit for Male Slash Minis. Julia, and oh, damn did I oversleep.
