Finally, and unnoticed by me, fine writer CousinJean has completed "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground." In it, Buffy is sucked into a hell dimension. Spike, at W&H, is inconsolable and determined to recover her. She comes back...changed. It's in the fic extras portion of the Dancing Lessons website. Scroll down the list to find the title.

A rare bit of Other-than-Slash from the high priestess of Emo Spander, Tabaqui. This is B/A, BtVS s2, and a riff or improvization of that perfect moment: www.livejournal.com/users/tabaqui/79579.htmlJulia, quintessentially in character and harmonius with canon

There was fine fic there.....

It appears Euro_fics has completed "A Dying Dream" at a site other than the one where I was watching for updates. It's here, and has won a Love's Last Glimpse award, to boot. ETA: Wrong: apparently it's still in progress, and the newest chapter is here.

Not much going on today, and I've been shuffling through archives for old fics. "Dazed and Confused" by Headrush, is a fic I've read and enjoyed before, a Gile, Anya and Willow immediately post "Grave," PG and perfectly consonant with canon. The first days at the coven, and the start of healing and renewal: www.wickedsky.com/gileszone/archive/fic/fic_headrush_dazedand.htmlJulia, this archive is small but choice

I can't believe that this hasn't already been recced sometime in the past, but I've tried a dozen different searches and get nothing. Also, not sure where it goes. It's more than one fic but not really an archive in that it is just one author AND there are WIPs on it as well. I've finally realized that if I wait until I have really have time to sit and rave about it I'll never write this, so I'm putting it out there and you all can rec the individual stories as you read them if you find them worthy. The author is Jedi Buttercup and her site is: shellpatine.tripod.com/fanficdex.htmlShe has some standalones and a whole bunch of crossovers (not my thing), but the fics I've been reading and loving are at the bottom of the list: the "Lesser Men" series. Now I'm mainly a B/S fan or at least Spike-centric fics so normally I wouldn't even give a second glance at a fic that starts out with Jonathan and the next two characters to appear are Wes and Ethan. But eventually she pulls in nearly every primary, secondary and quite a few bit players from all seasons of BtVS and AtS. Great writing. Excellent story. Very different take on Connor ( which you may either love or hate). Let me know what you think.

I wasn't sure if this had already been recc'd here, and had been asked to go ahead and rec it. It's a beautiful short fic by elenabtvs called Without Ceremony. It's in Willow's POV, set immediately after the Gift. It's basically about handling the arrangements of Buffy's burial, and gives a very plausible theory as to why the Scoobies believed Buffy was in a hell dimension. Very well written and very heartbreaking. bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/guests/withoutceremony.html

In the introduction to her newest piece, Liz Marcs made mention of an earlier tale. It's called "Living History," and it's in 70 parts on FanFiction net. I was interested and have just finished it. In the most realistic and insightful way possible, Liz here spins a tale of people 800+ years in the future confronting the New Scoobies/Slayers in Cleveland, 4 months after the events of Chosen, to get their help in securing a Grail to battle a magical (?) plague in their time that's decimating the populations of whole planets. The point is what each group will learn, and decide--living out history, knowingly or unknowingly. The characters mainly featured are Xander and Faith. It's good (if offbeat) reading, sort of an earlier chapter of her current "Water Hold Me Down" whose situation is quite different; but the characters feel much the same. It's here. Each chapter is linked to all the others on a slide panel at the side.

For Summer of Spike 2, Enigmaticblue(s) has a neat little phantasmagoric tale, "Every Night." It's post-Chosen Spuffy, sort of. It's here. Also, and also brief, "The Promise I'm Keeping," here. It's a Spike-Dawn vignette, from the summer following "The Gift."

"As the Seeing Are the Blind". The longest of the three, at 10,000 words. Post NFA Spike/Willow; slow, gentle, and quite beautiful. Speaker-to-Customers

Anaross' fine "Long Day's Journey" is complete in 34 parts, here.In AtS S5, Buffy learns Spike's still around and comes to suss out the situation. However, things are a bit awkward--there's been a serious falling out between Spike and Angel, and Spike has made a binding promise never to see her again--on that, he believes, her future happiness depends. Then things get complicated.... The story's distinction is that it's a story about Spike that's from everyone's point of view except his. We get all the reflections of this non-reflecting vampire. It reminds me of a line of poetry I seem to have collected somewhere. I don't know what it's from: "The only things you ever keep are what you give away."
