OK - I actually liked this more than I had remembered.
Yes, it's a bit heavy handed with the symbolism, but it has some great moments and I really like the ending.
Plus, as Erin reminded me, how can you beat those opening scenes at Cordy's party? And the repeat dance moves during the final credits? ;D ;D
Random thoughts:
* Love how Cordy admires Wes, who is willing to look like a fool at the party because he is at least trying. And she once again shows how she's stepped into Doyle's shoes, being the one to try and push Angel into interacting with others and getting out there into life.
* They do a nice job having the vision headaches slowly becoming worse. But we are getting plenty of hints, even this early on, of how bad they could become. When Cordy says "I don't just see, I feel. Thanks, Doyle.", it really struck me this time what that means.
* It's kind of interesting and irritating how Angel keeps telling Wes to "stay put" (the first time, my thought was "good doggie!"). But at least the second time, he provides a valid reason, because he needs someone to watch for the demons and give a warning.
* LOL over Cordy's "Portals? When did they put in portals?"
* Definite classic gray area here, with the dueling demons from another dimension and Angel mistaking who the bad ones are at first. Plus, it gives me that ending I love so much. With Angel and the Princess facing off - still with their own opinions and a sort of unresolved resolution.
* We get some nice detective work from all parties here. Princess, Angel, Wes and Cordy all get to display some nice chops in the areas of eluding pursuit, tracking, and extracting clues from evidence.
