Well, I got no great sweeping thematic ideas here. I'm gonna wait for Erin to do that and then just ride on her coattails. ;D
All I got are little teeny obvious things I noted.
* Well, gee. Do you think this episode is about Fathers? Comparisons between Kate's and Liam's. Comparisons meant to make us think about each of their motivations and issues and how they relate (for better or worse) to their children? And perhaps with how Angel acts as a father of sorts for the fang gang? And maybe bring in a hint of Wes and his father, of which we got a hint in last week's ep? Nope. I didn't think so. Obviously this episode is about issues with urban mass transit. **nods sagely**
* I have always loved the last scene with Darla here. Very effective and chilling and moving. Liam-becoming-Angelus is so . . . dejected and trying so hard to look like killing the village and his family was all he ever wanted. He's all "I won" and "Power". And then Darla, with that icky little half smile, so smug and pleased with herself as she just hammers him with the truth that he's gonna spend the next several centuries dragging around after himself. "His defeat of you will last lifetimes . . .Nor can he approve of you." And "What we once were informs all that we have become. The same love will infect our hearts, even if they no longer beat." Those words about love infecting our hearts always get to me.
* Good continuity with Angel telling Kate (and reminding us) that demons were here first. ("Demons aren't really otherworldly . . they were here . . .")
* So sweet and painful to watch Kate swing back and forth in her emotions with her dad. So naively happy and thinking he came to the crime scene just to see her. And the meeting where he comes to pump her for info about Angel and every time she thinks Dad is gonna praise her, well . . . not so much. I mean he loves her, but . . . Then the final bits with his death and her learning about his secrets and the final bit at his grave. Very bittersweet.
* The little Wes / Angel / Cordy scene, talking about Kate just cracks me up. A: Ever since she ran me thru with a 2 X 4, thing have been different. W: Well, she'll come 'round. People need a period of adjustment after being confronted with the dark forces which surround us. Women in particular . . . C: Found it! (All perky and chipper with the hacksaw as she prepares to start cutting up the demon body.)
And of course there's also the running gag with the alarm and Wes looking all adorable with his doctor costume on and Cordy's hideous disguise. LOL!
Yeah, good times.
