I've been a little crazy the last couple of days, trying to get things done so I can leave town. (So, haven't posted much!) I've just caught up on all the threads. Loved the episode, love all your discussions, loved Nan's review.
I can't remember everything that I wanted to say to people, except Rob, don't go (or don't go far)! Other than that, my sleep-deprived brain can't deal. I may check in again at the end of the day, but otherwise --
I'm off to Italy!
Be good, stay well, enjoy the episodes (I wonder if I'll be able to find AtS over there?). I hope Moloch stays away from the boards. See you folks in two weeks! (God, I'll have a ton of catching up to do! )

Spike didn't sacrifice himself to save the world in the hopes of any ultimate reward. He did it because it was the right thing to do. Although I do believe that given the burden of guilt that he'd suffered under ever since getting his soul back doing the *right* thing was its own reward. But doing the right thing "...for all the right reasons" as Spike complained to Angel in "Just Rewards", doesn't preclude feeling bewildered, disappointed and even bitter after the fact when his afterlife turns out to be a precarious existence as an incorporeal ghost like entity tied to the amulet that fueled his light channeling, hellmouth closing, world saving sacrifice, which, is in the hands of his hated grandsire and rival who, in contrast to Spike, is unliving at the top of the world. And the only alternative appears to be the torments of hell which he can see and feel pulling him down. I think that under the circumstances he can certainly be excused for feeling that he got a raw deal. I agree completely. Not only all of this, but...nobody ever appreciates what he does. He was never given credit on Buffy, and I hope we don't get the same dose of *kick the Spike* on Angel. Ok, let him be an insensitive jerk, but please let someone - somewhere thank him for what he did.

Nan's review is up on the Buffy newsboards again. ;D Way to go Nan! Buffy news even has the site name right there beside it. Nan should have recruiter added to her title. Read the review and it was excellent again. Love the promos at the bottom of the page.

Ok, here's what it comes down to for me: I love Ats. I truly do...but it isn't quite the same. It isn't supposed to be, of course, but... I'm babbling uselessly in my own post. I'm pretty much by myself in here at 3am, so I may as well just let it all hang out. Who exactly on Angel am I supposed to identify with? Which one of these characters represent me? Just your everyday person trying to do their best and get by? That might not be noble or sexy...but it's real. Xander is the accidental hero...the only character whom the writers rarely considered giving a supernatural power. On Angel, I suppose the closest parallel would be Gunn or Fred...but Gunn's had his brain enhanced now and Fred is a genius. Who represents me? I watch the show...enjoy it immensely...and try to find a character I can cheer for because doing that makes my own life feel a little less pointless. Of course, expecting a tv show to enhance your self esteem is more than a little pathetic. I realize this. Still, the fact is my heart is strongly tied to some of these Jossverse characters...most of which I'll probably never see again. That's what it all comes down to, really. I love this board. I love everyone on it...but in the end, I'm always a little on the outside because Spike, as terrific as he is, will never move me like Xander did. If - and this is a definite IF, because I'm unspoiled on casting issues - Buffy were to make an appearance at some point this season, is any mention going to be made of Xander? Hell, no. Of course not. Why the Hell would anyone in L.A. care whether Xander is alive or dead? I doubt Joss has even thought much about the character since BTVS ended; the remaining characters on Angel either detested Xander or don't know who he is. For that reason I have a tough time every once in a while. The great majority of you - Bangels, Spuffies, or those who just love Spike or Angel regardless of who they're romantically linked with - still get to see your favorite for a little while longer. I don't. Frankly, it gets a little lonely sometimes, and I think it makes a few of my posts come off more bitter than I wish to be. I never thought I would say this, but it may be best if I'm not be around as much...at least until I feel better about things. Rob, please don't distant yourself from us or this board. It won't be the same without your thoughtful, articulate, insightful and beautifully written posts.

Gail - I sent you a PM but I want to ditto what Nan said. I too printed it out and saved it. Brillaint as always. Rob - I agree with Gail. I would hate to lose you. Not to be sexist, but we need you and John and Dave to give a different view of what happens. I've never seen myself in any of them. They are all too beautiful, too sweet, too special, too young, etc. But I do love watching. I love the verbal repartee and all of the odd expressions and use of language. As a gifted writer, I'm sure you appreciate ME's unusual manipulation and invention of language. I think that JW really liked Xander's character. I suspected that perhaps he was much like Joss. So I think we will see some of Xander in someone. My guess is Knox. He obviously adores Fred. We may see a similar Xander/Buffy situation. Yeah. What she said. I'd forgotten to mention that never really identified that strongly with any of the BtVS characters either. Sometimes they struggled with problems that I could identify with, problems common to all of us, and I could feel their pain. But in the midst of their pain they all had strengths that I lack and so I could never look at any of those characters and feel as though he or she represented me.

*sniffs*
Part 50 has been sooo good to us. She didn't disappear despite He-Who-Can-Not-Be-Named's lures and she didn't mind our lively debates about the latest Ange.
*sniff*
I'll miss you Part 50!
