Remember my nervousness of the other day about the elevated blood glucose level seen in my oncology follow-up blood test? I went to my PCP (that's primary care physician in insurance-speak) today and was tested further.
The good news is, two tests, including being stabbed in the finger and a drop of blood being tested in a handheld blood sugar detector-thingie, categorized my blood glucose level to be absolutely normal. The bad news is I have to wait until tomorrow or Friday to hear the results of a more complicated test called the A1c, it measures the blood sugar for the past 60 days. And I'm sure I'll hear unpleasant news about the cholesterol too, eating an egg or two a day on ATKINS probably hasn't exactly helped....
I guess diabetics have to do that finger-stabbing routine every day. Major yuck. It only hurt for a moment, mercifully.
Guess it's always got to be about blood....
[glow=red,2,300]GAIL [/glow] [/b][/quote] Keeping fingers crossed that you don't get that diabetes diagnosis, Gail. Finger sticking would get old after a while.....unless you could get a snarky vampire to come over and suck the extra blood off for you. I've read where the eggs don't effect cholesterol like they had once thought. In fact, it's a good thing to eat them. Sugar is the bad. I eat a couple of eggs a day, and my good and bad numbers for cholesterol are great. Medicine - it's a work in progress.

Genetic background is a huge factor. There are folks with a single mutation whose cholesterol is just through the roof unless they totally cut all animal products from their diets, and then the folks with the "Mediterranean" mutation, who can eat anything they want and their cholesterol is perfectly normal. Oh, boy, check out the geekiness of me.

If it makes you feel better, it's the name of a thread in the ScoopMe archives, not actually pants. Flippersmack! What a disappointment!!!!! I'm off to read the archives. I just had to explain to Emily why I was snorting at the monitor... Me: "Imagine your (Unfortunate Events) discussion board, only it's adult women discussing the fit of JM's pants." Emily: "And what that reveals?" What can I say, she's my daughter.

In fact, there has never been a medical study that proved a link between eggs and elevated blood cholestrerol. It was just assumed that since eggs have lots of cholesterol that they MUST raise blood cholesterol. Hope your tests turn out okay, Gail.

Peeking hell. I'll be there with binoculars, telescopes, microscopes, tape measure, TSquare, micrometer, compass, protractor and No-Doz (I expect a LONG night). Will you be using the metric system, too? 'Cause that dramatically changes the numbers ;D
