Betsy, You might want to copy this over on the Book Rec thread as well. Sue Done. Now off to watch the remaining episodes of Nip/Tuck and the Italian Job and to drink more White Russians. The girls were over today and we watched Dick (very funny movie) and drank all afternoon. Be back later, but not sure what frame of mind I'll be in ;D

Dinner with Dave was delightful.
No, really. Picked Dave and his friend, Gerri, up at the hotel. Drove around Nashville just a little--hard to see in the dark plus lots of tourists walking around--a college football game going on at the "Coliseum" and a hockey game at the Arena.
So, we went on to the restaurant. Dave will give tons more details on the convention but he was/is having a blast. Has autographed pics of Juliet Landau, Danny Strong and Adam Busch, George Hertzenburg, and Robia La Morte (who looks much younger and prettier than Jenny and Dave said is a fine woman in person.) oh, and James Leary.
He gets to meet Nick and Julie Benz tomorrow, but ran in to Julie (almost literally) today.
He said the stars all seemed very relaxed and very happy to be with the fans--to the point of ignoring rules about picture taking and posing at any request.
The Q and A's were a hoot and he has spoilers to share on the spoiler board (so be careful about reading convention reports posted elsewhere).
His friend Gerri is pretty much new to the whole Buffy-verse but the tone of the convention was so friendly that she was also very much enjoying herself (or maybe that was due to Dave...)
We took pics on the steps of The Parthenon (a Nashville tourist spot from the state Centennial--a full size replica of the real Parthenon). Dave reports that he's seen the real thing.
What I didn't know before--Dave came to Buffy via Angel. He started watching Angel in season two and it wasn't until the next year that he watched Buffy (season 6).
Oh yeah, and the school guidance counselor came over to the table at dinner to say hi (she was on her way to the hockey game), so Allison will be totally mortified that I introduced my "Buffy friends" to her guidance counselor.
We had a fun time.
Pictures to follow when Dave gets home.

Just got home from running errands. Got LOTS of cat food (the pouched kind) and my 2 guys were all over, under my feet, crying to be fed while I was trying to put things away. I stopped and fed them. Things were much more peaceable after that. On my scooter, I got: a 24 can pack of diet Coke; 4 bags of groceries, one of them enormous (my handled tote: sat on top of the Coke, on the scooter floor--the other 3 went into the basket). Little scooter really does hold a lot, and as long as I keep the heavy stuff on the floor, maintaining balance isn't a problem (keeps the center of gravity low). I know it's not thrilling, but that's what I've done with my day so far, besides completing another portion of chapter 10 of BIL (already posted). Are you sure your scooter doesn't have another life as a Tardis?

Patti - you wanted a picture. Here ya go: Not to worry... we didn't strike that pose for everyone that stopped by! Alright, all the party organizing the past few days has left me way behind on my board reading and review reading. I'm off to read what Nan and Spring had to say about last week's ep.

And 'the suspense' is over....this week's winner is 'The Road to Hades' created and submitted by Vlad! Congratulations, Vlad, Vlad will put your picture and your name on the site....as soon as Vlad has time....*grins*
This week's contest was another record breaker - each week the total number of people voting increases, which is kewl! And though this week's vote total was a little lopsided...ok, it was a landslide - that doesn't mean the other entries were not great - as usual, the selection was outstanding. IN a few minutes, the thread for nominations for the new week will be opened. And I kinda like that Raggedy Ann Pic, Rae....*grins*

Happy Belated birthday, Spring! In the meantime, to tide me over until I get home and can start watching AtS again, BBC2 has started showing BtVS Season 7 three nights a week. So, I guess that means I have to grit my teeth for Kennedy's arrival pretty soon (sorry, Rob!). It is so sweet that everyone keeps apologizing to me for their opinions. Really, it is...in this case, however, I'm pretty sure you meant the Vladster. I've never been in the Kennedy camp myself.

Just read your profile, makd! LOL! Sex - sometimes - 33 years, hence the sometimes. ICI (I can identify) - 30 years here. Cracked up at your answers. You sure picked a ripe time to start watching Buffy. Was it one of those - 'what have I been missing?' moments? SandyShores - You surely have MY number! gotta tell you, the first Buffy I saw (other than the scattered seconds as I'd surfed) was on FX, at 8 a.m. It was Out of Mind, Out of Sight - about the classmate who becomes invisible. It was so good, I watched FX the next a.m., and saw Some Assembly Required. Again, it was of the good. The following day, I woke up early. I wanted just to see what the 7 a.m. Buffy would be - and saw School Hard. I couldn't believe the chemistry between Spike and Buffy. It was tangible, palpable. I really think I could taste it! (WTF?) I can still remember it: the predatory stalking on the dance floor; the tampon in Buffy's bag [oh my goddess; he's a vamp and she has her period! oh, it's gonna be bad!]; the "Who do you want me to be?" to Sheila; the comment Sheila made about the principal (The man is a serious rodent.); the sing-song while Buffy is in the ceiling; You were my Yoda; I smell the blood of a nice ripe slayer; the interactions between the Buffy and her friends; What can a student teach ME?;Spike's game face, telling Buffy: I just got so bored - and an apology from the vamp for messing up the doilies; What's a sire? - hell, every damned scene in that episode crackled. I remember the whole thing! I don't need the DVD!I stopped my treadmilling and just stood and stared. That was pretty much it. I was so on my way to the addiction/obsession. Needless to say, I talked about the program over dinner that night with my daughter. She told me the show was still on, and was pretty good, but was better before Angel left. Angel? Angel? What about that blond vamp? My heart stopped when he started stalking her; he killed her, right? in a later episode, right? Oh no! He's a regular villain, I think, she told me. So, Monday came, and I watched two more episodes in the a.m. Tuesday a.m. - two more episodes. I wanted to find out what happened with Buffy and Blondie. So amazing. Tuesday night, I watched my first nighttime Buffy. It was the first showing of Smashed. The last 1/2 hour? I'm not sure, but I think I stopped breathing for about 45 seconds as they took down that house. I have never seen anything that intense, that sexy - and both of them clothed - in my life! And the looks they shared! That was it! Addiction/ Obsession/Religion, was my middle name. You are so right!! I just had to know how that damned magnetic bag-o-bonesy, strangely sexy vamp with the Billy Idol-Ken hair had gone from killing her to loving her....Hooked. I was hooked. Like some dumb fish they'd reeled in. I had to watch every episode, learn everything I could about this program. Of course, I fell in love with the characters. It's happened before, you know. It wasn't my first time. I fell in love with China Beach, with Northern Exposure, with XFiles, with Seinfeld, with I, Claudius. Like those programs, I loved the cast and I loved the writers. And everyone I spoke with about the show --- if they loved it, I loved them too. WTF? I live on Long Island, and we don't love anyone!!! (Except the Mets; we love the Mets.) Not like this - so uncool. And, despite my list of fave shows (don't call me if China Beach is on, yadda yadda), never anything like this. What we sociologists call a conversion experience. Buffy was unique. Still in love. Only, now I am learning to love Angel. I'll be there soon. Very, very, soon. Right now, I am in like. I'm teetering on the edge, kinda at that pre-School Hard spot, followed by Smashed. As soon as Angel packs the same kind of 1-2 punch, I'll be over the edge and it'll be love, love, love, again. Soon, I know it'll be very soon; I can feel it coming. I can feel it in the rhythmn of the writing; in the pace of the acting; in the oh, so subtle and sly arc-that-isn't-supposed-to-be-there. I can feel it when I watch Harmony throw that incandescent smile to Angel, and call him Bossy, and he looks forward to her bringing his nourishment; I can feel it watching Spike and Angel just be together in the same room, calmly; I can feel it when I hurt for Wes, cause he's a fool for love, too, just like Spike; I can feel it watching Spike snark over his fear and his need; I can feel it just watching Spike sit and watch the sunrise; I can feel it watching Gunn straddle the line between youthful ebulliance and power; I can feel it watching Lorne's need to be needed and to make people happy. Oh, Sandy, it's so coming; it's so near. These characters and their creators are becoming so dear to me. Well, when all's said and done, that'll be just...neat.

Found information about Buffy trading cards at another board (I'll give the name if you PM me.). Members there are currently (and quite graphically) embroiled in a major discussion about Inkworks, the company licensed by Fox to produce trading cards for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Apparently, the Season 6 package of 90 cards is in appallingly poor taste and morally questionable. #57 in the 90 card set commemorates the attempted rape in Seeing Red, with photos of Spike attempting to rape Buffy. #57 is called, The Big Bad. Guys, anytime we encourage anyone - especially children - to trade photos of an attempted rape, it's gotta be morally questionable. What is this teaching children? Here are the links. Please check them out; I did, and they APPEAR to be genuine. Honestly, I am appalled. It's in the 90 card set, #57/90 - The Big Bad. www.inkworkscards.com/products/buffy/buffy6/buffy6prod1.htmland, for photos of the printer plate (and the cards) INKWORKS PRESENTS BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 6 ORIGINAL PRINTER PLATE images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3393643/1047081158760_plate57.jpgvery upsetting. Just the wrong image a responsible company wants to give their customers.

so upset by the information in the above post, I sent the following message to Inkworks: Hello I recently learned that your company is licensed by Fox to produce Buffy the Vampire Slayer trading cards. I am sure that Inkworks cares about their products, and takes pride in designing and producing trading cards that customers will collect, trade, and cherish. However, I have reason to believe that an error was made in the inclusion of a controversial and violent photo in the Season 6 90-card package. Please note that package includes #57, "The Big Bad", which depicts an attempted rape. The photo on the card commemorates (and I am loathe to use that word) Spike attempting to rape Buffy, a scene in the episode entitled, "Seeing Red". Following is YOUR link to that card: INKWORKS PRESENTS BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 6 ORIGINAL PRINTER PLATE images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3393643/1047081158760_plate57.jpgFrankly, anytime we encourage anyone - especially children - to collect and trade photos of an attempted rape, we are behaving in ways that are contrary to fundamental American values about morality and family. What does this particular trading card teach children? Surely there was another photo to include in the package? The image of "The Big Bad" could have included some other activity than an attempted rape. There were 22 episodes in season six; I'm sure your graphic artist could have chosen a different scene. Finally, the inclusion of photos of an attempted rape on a trading card is not good business; it's not responsible, and does not cultivate good public relations with potential customers. In the future, if and when I am in the market to purchase collectible trading cards, I will most certainly check ALL the cards in the package, and will definitely re-think ANY future purchase from Inkworks. Sincerely
