so upset by the information in the above post, I sent the following message to Inkworks: Hello I recently learned that your company is licensed by Fox to produce Buffy the Vampire Slayer trading cards. I am sure that Inkworks cares about their products, and takes pride in designing and producing trading cards that customers will collect, trade, and cherish. However, I have reason to believe that an error was made in the inclusion of a controversial and violent photo in the Season 6 90-card package. Please note that package includes #57, "The Big Bad", which depicts an attempted rape. The photo on the card commemorates (and I am loathe to use that word) Spike attempting to rape Buffy, a scene in the episode entitled, "Seeing Red". Following is YOUR link to that card: INKWORKS PRESENTS BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 6 ORIGINAL PRINTER PLATE images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3393643/1047081158760_plate57.jpgFrankly, anytime we encourage anyone - especially children - to collect and trade photos of an attempted rape, we are behaving in ways that are contrary to fundamental American values about morality and family. What does this particular trading card teach children? Surely there was another photo to include in the package? The image of "The Big Bad" could have included some other activity than an attempted rape. There were 22 episodes in season six; I'm sure your graphic artist could have chosen a different scene. Finally, the inclusion of photos of an attempted rape on a trading card is not good business; it's not responsible, and does not cultivate good public relations with potential customers. In the future, if and when I am in the market to purchase collectible trading cards, I will most certainly check ALL the cards in the package, and will definitely re-think ANY future purchase from Inkworks. Sincerely Makd, I fervently second your post. If mature, educated adults such as those who post on this board wrestle with the nature of the AR, how are those to whom these cards are targeted supposed to deal with it? This is low, crass, irresponsible marketing.

Patti - you wanted a picture. Here ya go: Not to worry... we didn't strike that pose for everyone that stopped by! Alright, all the party organizing the past few days has left me way behind on my board reading and review reading. I'm off to read what Nan and Spring had to say about last week's ep. Thanks for sharing that picture Rae! Such fun! And now I've got that Rag Doll song in my head (not the Aerosmith one - that would be just ... wrong.) The Four Seasons - Rag Doll Ooh, oo-oo-oo-ooh (Ooh-oo-ooh) Ooh-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh Ahh, ah-ah-ah-ahh (Rag doll, ooh) Ooh-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh (Hand-me-down) When she was just a kid her clothes were hand-me-down (Hand-me-down) They always laughed at her when she came into town Called her rag doll, little rag doll Such a pretty face should be dressed in lace Ooh, oo-oo-oo-ooh (Ooh-oo-ooh) Ooh-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh (Sad rag doll) I'd change her sad rags into glad rags if I could (If I could) My folks won't let me 'cause they say that she's no good She's a rag doll, such a rag doll Though I love her so, I can't let her know Ooh, oo-oo-oo-ooh (Ooh-oo-ooh) Ooh-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh Ahh, ah-ah-ah-ahh (Rag doll, ooh) I love you just the way you are A-ahh, ah-ah-ah-ah ah-ahh (Rag doll, ooh) Ooh-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh

SandyShores - You surely have MY number! <snip> Buffy was unique. Still in love. Only, now I am learning to love Angel. I'll be there soon. Very, very, soon. Right now, I am in like. I'm teetering on the edge, kinda at that pre-School Hard spot, followed by Smashed. As soon as Angel packs the same kind of 1-2 punch, I'll be over the edge and it'll be love, love, love, again. Soon, I know it'll be very soon; I can feel it coming. I can feel it in the rhythmn of the writing; in the pace of the acting; in the oh, so subtle and sly arc-that-isn't-supposed-to-be-there. I can feel it when I watch Harmony throw that incandescent smile to Angel, and call him Bossy, and he looks forward to her bringing his nourishment; I can feel it watching Spike and Angel just be together in the same room, calmly; I can feel it when I hurt for Wes, cause he's a fool for love, too, just like Spike; I can feel it watching Spike snark over his fear and his need; I can feel it just watching Spike sit and watch the sunrise; I can feel it watching Gunn straddle the line between youthful ebulliance and power; I can feel it watching Lorne's need to be needed and to make people happy. Oh, Sandy, it's so coming; it's so near. These characters and their creators are becoming so dear to me. Well, when all's said and done, that'll be just...neat. makd, Whew - if I were a smoker, I would say I need a cigarette! A while back I think some of us posted somewhere how we got started on the Buffy obsession. I don't know if it's been archived, but you certainly need to add your story! I've watched A/B both from the beginning, so I didn't have the revelation experience you had. Spike was always a favorite of mine. I have a friend who didn't like the whole Buffy/Spike pairing. She hopes Angel and Buffy will ride off into the sunset. I'm glad you're enjoying Angel as much as I always have. It's different this year, but there is that underlayer that Joss is weaving for us long time watchers. Like you said - neat!

Your personal history/review of BtVS watching - wow! What a bouquet to the writers and actors of the series. That should be marked historic! It made me remember just how much fun it was, watching those episodes for the first time, watching Spike stirring things up in his first few appearances. Thank you so much, makd!!!
Your letter to Inkworks and commentary on their questionable choice of images was calm, coherent, and to the point. Well done! Thank you for the warning - I have never bought any of the cards, and I sure won't be buying any if this is the kind of mindset they have. Do you think they even had a clue what was happening in that scene, or was it just chosen because it looked like a fight? Whatever the reason, it was a really bad thing.

gotta tell you, the first Buffy I saw (other than the scattered seconds as I'd surfed) was on FX, at 8 a.m. It was Out of Mind, Out of Sight - about the classmate who becomes invisible. It was so good, I watched FX the next a.m., and saw Some Assembly Required. Again, it was of the good. The following day, I woke up early. I wanted just to see what the 7 a.m. Buffy would be - and saw School Hard. I couldn't believe the chemistry between Spike and Buffy. It was tangible, palpable. I really think I could taste it! (WTF?) I can still remember it: the predatory stalking on the dance floor; the tampon in Buffy's bag [oh my goddess; he's a vamp and she has her period! oh, it's gonna be bad!]; the "Who do you want me to be?" to Sheila; the comment Sheila made about the principal (The man is a serious rodent.); the sing-song while Buffy is in the ceiling; You were my Yoda; I smell the blood of a nice ripe slayer; the interactions between the Buffy and her friends; What can a student teach ME?;Spike's game face, telling Buffy: I just got so bored - and an apology from the vamp for messing up the doilies; What's a sire? - hell, every damned scene in that episode crackled. I remember the whole thing! I don't need the DVD!I stopped my treadmilling and just stood and stared. That was pretty much it. I was so on my way to the addiction/obsession. Needless to say, I talked about the program over dinner that night with my daughter. She told me the show was still on, and was pretty good, but was better before Angel left. Angel? Angel? What about that blond vamp? My heart stopped when he started stalking her; he killed her, right? in a later episode, right? Oh no! He's a regular villain, I think, she told me. So, Monday came, and I watched two more episodes in the a.m. Tuesday a.m. - two more episodes. I wanted to find out what happened with Buffy and Blondie. So amazing. Tuesday night, I watched my first nighttime Buffy. It was the first showing of Smashed. The last 1/2 hour? I'm not sure, but I think I stopped breathing for about 45 seconds as they took down that house. I have never seen anything that intense, that sexy - and both of them clothed - in my life! And the looks they shared! That was it! Addiction/ Obsession/Religion, was my middle name. You are so right!! I just had to know how that damned magnetic bag-o-bonesy, strangely sexy vamp with the Billy Idol-Ken hair had gone from killing her to loving her....Hooked. I was hooked. Like some dumb fish they'd reeled in. I had to watch every episode, learn everything I could about this program. My viewing progression was pretty similar. I liked Angel, but he never fascinated me the way Spike did, he just steals all the scenes without even trying. When Spike turns his head to look at Dru and we see his beautiful face for the first time in School Hard, I was totally gone. Can you just imagine if they HAD killed him off in Season 2 like they originally planned!?!

I have a black hole in my head where Kennedy is concerned so sorry for the misattribution. Vlad, if you're out there, I still can't stand Kennedy! Vlad is not the only Kennedy fan. I liked her too. And Conner. I told one or two Australian BtVS watchers about the on-line reaction to Kennedy and they were aghast. She seemed nice enough to them. So, in summary, anyone who does not like Kennedy is weird and not the other way around.

I couldn't believe the chemistry between Spike and Buffy. It was tangible, palpable. I really think I could taste it! Any yet, I really don't think it was originally intended by the writers, directors, producers. We've all read that Spike was supposed to be just another short arc "big bad." Thing is Spike (and I believe it's a direct outgrowth of JM's persona), as had been said, could have chemistry with a brick wall. I'm mean, why do you think there is fanfic pairing: S/B, S/X, S/W, S/Angel(us, S/Anya, S/T, S/Oz, S/G, S/W, I'm surprised there isn't a category: Spike/ Brick Wall. And, it the writer is at all competent, you believe it all. Spike oozes charm and sexuality. That's why it's near impossible, even when he's trying his damnedst to be cruel and evil, not to still be drawn to the guy. I think maybe JM has "the thrall."

Yesterday when my girlfriends were over, we watched Dick with Michelle Williams and Kirsten Dunst. They played teenagers in the 70's and their involvement with the whole Watergate scandal. The movies is hilarious.
Anyway, while watching it there was one scene in the while the girls were in the White House and there were some Secret Service Agents. All of a sudden I yelled out "There's Groo". It was Mark Lutz. He had no dialogue, but it was funny seeing him in this movie as I never recognized him before. Not sure when the movie was made. Will have to check the back of the box.

Not to mention that he's just plain fun to watch! The first time he showed up in Sunnydale, Paul and I sat up and said "Hey!". We knew we were watching something special, even for BtVS. We fell for the show from the beginning, but this vampire was something else again. I saw part of the first BtVS Halloween episode on Friday (we have GOT to buy a DVD player!). The look on Spike's face, as he watches the chaos - pure delight and childish glee, even in vamp-face. Spike so enjoyed being Spike back then. That was just... neat! I was surprised when I read that JW didn't intend there to be chemistry between Spike and Buffy. It was there from the beginning - they stalked around each other like two cats, and it sizzled. Angel and Buffy were sweet and all that, but the love/hate relationship between Buffy and Spike was something else again. I am eternally grateful to Joss that he didn't kill Spike off. OK, got to stop burbling now.

So, in summary, anyone who does not like Kennedy is weird and not the other way around. I didn't care one way or the other about Kennedy initially, then she got uppity and I disliked her intensely. Then Dave told me about the way a new recruit behaves when put in charge, which explained Kennedy a bit better. She still wasn't right for Willow, but at least I knew why she was being such a bitca. And she came through at the end. I guess I kind of mellowed toward her. Giles, on the other hand... I don't know who that man was, but he wasn't my Giles. An evil robot double, maybe?

Patti I don't want to create more work for our magnificent WTB, but is it possible to post Diane's lyrics to The Road to Hades with the picture? Ah yes...William the Magnificent...you do realize he won't be able to get his pope hat on pretty soon? Anyway, I know he definitely is going to post Diane's poem - he'll figure out the best way to do that and keep the page 'tidy'...maybe he'll put it underneath...or put a link under the picture that goes to the poem on the poetry page...cause it should live there with her others ....anyway, he'll figure it out, it's what he 'does'.

Thank you thank you thank you Diane for the tickets to the festival yesterday!
I had the BEST time! (Diane looked wonderful - her costume is unbelievable...I can't believe humans can make such an intricate thing.)
The Festival itself has grown so much since I was last there - I am more irritated than before that I didn't take advantage of the opportunity to be there every weekend this fall...wearing beautiful clothes and getting into that atmosphere...
I HATED to leave...I remembered what I felt like working there before - the magic and play and fantasy is like 'home' to me...
There was no possiblie way to see it all in one day - I think you'd need 2 or three. I ache in every joint and muscle today, and it was so worth it.
I AM going to do it next year! I want to be part of that world again and I SO want to be a tavern wench and wear the wench clothes! *grin*
I have some good pictures of you Diane. I'll post a couple on the picture page. The picture of the two of us is great of you and I look awful, so I won't be posting it! Unless I crop me out!....! LOL!
I bought one of those beautiful wooden tankards for myself.
Again, thank you!
Oh, Charles had a wonderful time too and asked me to tell you thank you for him.
