And there was also Parker (boo, hiss) - who did turn bad the morning after - but Buffy seemed to have no complaints about his stamina at the time. As I recall, Buffy gave Parker a kinda lukewarm review when Willow asked her . . . she said something like, "it was nice, very nice" but I just remember thinking that her tone and wording suggested "so-so," though I really can't remember why now.

I have the first part of Chapter 12 posted: www.livejournal.com/users/nandibble/4928.htmlAnd Chapter 11 should be up at the sites soon, though I haven't gotten notices from anybody except Luba, at the Crypt, that they've posted it. Laura, at AllAboutSpike, should be putting it up shortly, I expect.

I didn't see her stint at DP in that light at all, although I find your take on it interesting. I didn't see Buffy making the best of a bad situation, I saw her punishing herself with that job and it made me unhappy that her "friends" were not only allowing her to do it but "supporting" her in it as well. And I don't think Spike was trying to drag her down by getting her to leave, I thought he was trying to help her in the way that the Scoobies should have done; he cared about her (in his own way) and was the only one honest enough to try to tell her how terrible that place was for her. Shanno I thought Rob's point was that Spike said she was too good for the DMP, but then he was happy to have sex with her by a dumpster in the alley- kind of contradictory. But really, I thought Season 6 was all about Buffy hating and degrading herself, and Spike, ultimately, going along with whatever Buffy wanted, however she wanted it - usual "love's bitch" behavior, being whatever he sensed that Buffy wanted him to be. Until he got his soul, he was willing to degrade her and himself, he was willing to do just about anything to keep Buffy by his side (short of turning her, because, I think, that wouldn't be Buffy anymore, and he wanted "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer" - the human - not "Buffy, The Vampire.")

I didn't start liking Angel until he got away from Buffy. Someone mentioned she made him act immature when they were together, ITA. It's always kinda bothered me that a 200+ year old man was hanging out and talking about prom with a 17 year old. But, I gained a new perspective after watching AtS. I really like Angel now, tho Spike's my favorite vamp with a soul. Well Ellie, since you asked Caraleigh, I thought I'd share. Other than the original movie, I'd never seen an episode of Buffy on TV. I started watching Angel from Ep. 1 of Season 1. I saw the promo and thought, whoa, he's a hottie and a show about a vamp, well I had to tune in (as I have a thing for vamps). I didn't start watching Buffy til sometime in Season 5. Then watched the reruns on F/X. So I became attached to Angel without knowing about Buffy til IWRY. I was never much into the relationship between the 2 of them on the reruns I've watched. Course Buffy wasn't my favorite character on Buffy anywah (ducks from flying veggies). I just wished he'd get over her and move on. I loved the way he told her off in 5 by 5 and Sanctuary in Season 1. I thought she was out of line, but that's my opinion (ducking the flying rotten veggies now) ;D

So are you saying that young people who worked at McDonalds to get by should have been discouraged from working by their friends? Buffy needed money to support her family. She got a job wherever she could get it, and that was a commendable thing. What exactly should she have done? Buffy, while a Slayer, is as human as anyone else. She was no better than Willow, Dawn or Xander. I doubt anyone would have discouraged THEM from working at a fast food restaurant. In the regular, just getting by human world, Spike couldn't help her in a normal way. Like I said, I think Spike thought he was doing the right thing for her, but there was an awful lot of the right thing or HIM mixed in. Spike was no dummy. He knew if Buffy clawed her way out of that grave psychologically she would no longer seek him out physically. Therefore he instinctively took steps to keep her where she was. "In the dark with me," was his quote as I recall. They were just terrible for each other that year for a whole bunch of reasons. What I have a hard time understanding is people who say it was a one way street...that Buffy shouldn't have treated the helplessly--in-love Spike the way she did. As if he were a victim and nothing more. I completely agree with fact that she shouldn't have used him. It hurt him terribly, and it was wrong. I also think Spike manipulated her at times so he could get at least something approaching what he truly wanted, though he knew perfectly damn well it wasn't going to happen. They hurt each other. Well . . . I can imagine Xander telling Willow, if she took a full time job at DMP and quit school, that she was too good for it. Spike wouldn't have - he didn't care about anyone but Buffy & Dawn to any great extent. I do agree with you that the B/S relationship was a "two way street" on every level - the pluses and the minuses. They both had different ways of dealing with their feelings and tendencies, but really, underneath it all, it was so very alike. They were obsessed with each other, and they hurt each other terribly, and they also helped each other a lot.

<snip> For the record, I thought the whole AR thing was silly. They should have used something else to lead into the soul-seeking thing. I didn't buy it and I didn't buy her later nervousness around him. Different discussion from DMP, though, I guess. Shanno I thought the AR thing was brilliant. It had to be something huge for a vampire to go seeking his soul. And it also forced Buffy into some major realizations about her relationship with Spike and herself. I can't imagine what else it could have been, really - I mean short of say, killing Dawn. 'Cause I think soulless Spike could have killed or hurt just about anyone else and not been compelled to seek his soul.

Caraleigh: Way ahead of you on this. Well, about 2 weeks ahead of you. I am liking him. I am liking his analness and neatness. I am liking his sardonic humor. I am liking his caring for his friends. I am liking that, underneath the anger toward Spike, I occasionally see a glimmer of caring about him. I am liking that he likes fancy cars. (That is particularly endearing.) I am liking that he's a little, well, goofy. I am liking that he's actually competent, and comfortable enough in his competence to wonder if he's competent. I am liking that he gets pi--ed with Eve. I like that a lot. I am liking that he screwed Eve. literally. He not only got his not-happy; he screwed her. I like his capitalist sense of economy there. (in the doing two things at the same time.) I am liking that he mixes his blood with alcohol and drinks it from crystal, rather than the jar he used to drink from. I am liking that he's capable of embarrassment. I am liking his show. I am liking his show a lot. Angel is the first CEO I've ever liked. So, guess you could say: I like Angel. p.s. I still like Spike. I like Spike a lot. I like Spike more than Angel. I like the rebels. (I am liking Wes, too. And I am liking Wes a lot. But I still like Spike more. ) you like? I like. I am also for some unknown reason now just dying to see 'The Cat in the Hat'....

A little frustrated here - have tried to post information on the NYCS'CubieFest three times, and each time have had the message eaten by Dell. (makd bangs her head against the laptop screen. She stops; shakes her head; growls in gameface, then tries again.) Hello Everyone Following Ellie, here's my report on today's S'CubieFest: We met for lunch in a lovely restaurant in the Lincoln Center area. It's a place Laura knows and her recommendations - about everything -were just the best! We had a great time, and here's some more info: Going around the table, here's a quick snapshot of each of us: Len is a kind man with an easy smile. He's completely spoiler-free. Hence, the easy smile. He doesn't know what's ahead. Ellie is quick-thinking, caring, filled with lots of good ideas. "A clever girl". Lori is funny, fun, outspoken, giving. My Own Private Spike is my husband, Gil. He snarks, he snogs, he s.......shoots wonderful photographs and plays golf. He's very supportive of my addiction...I mean my hobby. Makd is well, myself. She is wonderful, mysterious, funny, smart. Humble. She's very big on humble. Oh, and she's beautiful, too. (Just thought you'd want to know.) Laura is sharp, competent, open. She's good at details. Knew just what to order, just where to eat, just what to do. Vicky is beautiful in every way. Funny and fun. 'nuff said. Anya is one beautiful, gorgeous, baby. Beautiful velvet and satin skin, big eyes, curly hair (and so much hair! no bald head there!), quiet, a gift. Future heartbreaker. Flame for the moths. John is reserved, attentive, thoughtful. The Fest was of the good. Good fun, good food, and yes, may I say it? good friends. After months of talking online, we still have lots to share and lots to say. Scintillating conversation and delicious food and delightful people. I keep repeating this since it was just so good and so bears repeating. (Can we do this again during the holidays or in the next 90 days, please? ) and Ellie: Good on you in your pursuit of a graduate degree! The fun, the passion, the work, the adventure is a great one! Also, your contributions to the discussion were not only welcome, relevant, and interesting, but they were also necessary! You have much to say, and it's all gold. I had written so much more eloquently, but, after 3 strikes with the old Dell, I just got so bored (channeling Spike) and couldn't remember all the wonderful stuff. or maybe I just thought it was wonderful....anyway; this was my report, and I'm sticking to it. A good time was had by all and we owe today's good time to: our lovely Spike, a creation of Joss Whedon, who's part of ME, and I've been reading way too much fanfic. OH I"m so envious of you folk who got to meet and now know each other! It sounds like such a wonderful day!

I thought she was out of line, but that's my opinion (ducking the flying rotten veggies now) ;D Hi Betsy L- I am so glad you did respond to my query- I think you are my first - a person who came to Buffy via Angel- cool- Since I was a reluctant Buffy adherent ( back story foreshortened-taped episodes for my son- got hooked gradually and watched Angel b/c I adored the character while still enjoying Buffy *Willow is my hands on favorite with Anya and Wesley close behind* all of this pre -Spike Season 6 ) I find fascinating the idea that Angel has drawn people into the Buffyverse. It literally had not occured to me! One's allegiances to this show are so predetermined by who -how-why one watches and the quality of writing, acting, directing is so rich and nuanced that one find's one's loyalities and interpretations shifting subtly over time. ( Or at least I find mine do somewhat) Right now- a friend of mine who watched Buffy desultorily and misses it has started watching Angel avidly. I emailed her a detailed history of Angel/Darla/Drusilla on the ATS wavelength so she will not be hopelessly lost with upcoming episodes that may reference his romantic history or his son. She only knows of Wesley from his geeky Buffy days and has had to radically revise her view of him from momentary glimpses of his radically deepened character. Funny. She could share your pain in an alternate reality reverse image kind of way.
