I know I'm in the minority here, so I'm really thankful that the tomatoes can't be tossed through the internet lines, but I never felt the "ewwww" factor in Angel and Buffy's relationship. I never analysed the age difference in the beginning, but I can see now that Buffy might have been attracted to an older man because of her father issues. Angel was drawn to Buffy because of her youth and goodness, something he lost a long time ago. But at the time, all I saw was Buffy and Angel. Two souls tossed together, helping each other, understanding each other. Neither of them wanted their calling. Buffy always fought the Slayer title. Angel certainly didn't ask to be cursed with a soul. But they both dealt with it. I saw their mutual attraction as believeable because of this. At the beginning, Angel and Buffy both fought their mutual attraction. But circumstances kept bringing them together until their feelings for each other were too strong to resist. Angel probably should have been stronger and did try to leave. I didn't feel any ewwww. But I hurt for their star-crossed love, because their love wasn't enough to overcome the reasons why they couldn't be together. I saw the characters' souls as joining and didn't see the age difference as a factor or as "ewwww". As for Spike, I loved Buffy and Spike together. I loved watching Spike grow and change because of it. I have a friend who was really angry about it. I thought it made a good story and looked at it from Buffy's point of view. I also always saw Buffy's relationship's with the men/vampires in her life as a way for her to grow. Not a bangel or a spuffy, but a plotter, Karen I didn't feel an eeeewwww factor when Angel & Buffy were together. It was looking back at the way Angel acted when he left and in IWRY. He made decisions FOR Buffy, partly because he didn't think she was mature enough to make those hard decisions for herself. That's when their relationship started bothering me.

Hello kiddies, I'm back. I mean, sorry, leftovers from earlier today. I've spent the last four days teaching Swedish and English at one of the local junior highs. And, you know, uh, teenagers, they can be kinda draining. Annoying little brats (and with that attitude I'm going to be a great teacher). However, I quickly forgot all that exhaustion when I came home and opened my mailbox (the electronic kind). There was the confirmation for my ticket to JMLive in Berlin May 2004. I did a little celebratory dance around the apartment. Not quite the Snoopy dance, but still. I'm going to see James Marsters. You probably couldn't care less, but come on girls and boys, I had to tell someone. I also got my Angel fix today by watching the episode Offspring from S3. Am I glad we are finally getting new episodes. It has been one big repeat-o-vision with S2 eps here. We've seen them, like, three times and thus, are still stuck with S3. So life's not too bad. Oh, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL! I've experienced one myself. The food was good, the whole historical background of the holiday is not all clear to me though. Buggering out now...

Happy Thanksgiving to all! (And to our non-U.S. S'cubies -- we're thankful for you, too!)
That's all. As you were. See you later!
Laura (who needs to go pack her contribution to today's feast (butternut squash puree, with honey and orange zest -- yum!) and get her tail in the car to get to Mom's house).

I didn't feel an eeeewwww factor when Angel & Buffy were together. It was looking back at the way Angel acted when he left and in IWRY. He made decisions FOR Buffy, partly because he didn't think she was mature enough to make those hard decisions for herself. That's when their relationship started bothering me. Quoting myself instead of modifying--extra posts, heh heh. Angel didn't start acting like Buffy's guardian, instead of her boyfriend, until later in the relationship. At first, he seemed to think she could pretty much take care of herself, so I was okay with the relationship. He didn't go with her to face the Master. Perhaps he just couldn't stand to watch her die. Later, he would have done anything to either prevent her from going or he would have been by her side to help & protect her. In Pangs he doesn't think she's capable of fighting if she's disracted by him. Presumptous much? So now, I get the eeewww when I watch those early scenes of them together.

Hi Reeta, Happy for you, that you get to see James. I had tickets to a Convention in Texas that same weekend, hoping to meet James. I decided to cancel after I read about him being in Berlin. I hope he'll keep doing the Cons here, 'cause I really want to meet him. I'm sooooo jealous of everyone that's been so privileged. I want a hug like LadyDi's.

Nan, whose plans today are napping, writing until the rain lets up, then going to KY to feed and console the cats of friend Mary, who's Thanksgiving-ing in N. Carolina with her longtime friend and ex-college roommate, as she does each year. So I tend her cats each year. Rain--ugh.

Here is a question I have. All of Buffy's friends know what Spike did to her (the AR, chaining her in crypt) but do they know about the things she did to him? Was this ever addressed? Caraleigh, who is waiting for the cold medicine to kick in. Later- well I'm comfortably numb now. Going to bed. I think, except for Spike's reference to himself as a "sodding sex slave" in "Normal Again", none of the Scubies have a clue as to Buffy's sadistic tendancies; they all had plenty of opportunity to observe her verbal abuse but since that version of Kick the Spike was something they all played, it's significance probably didn't register. Julia, who slept in 'til 6:30 this morning, woo hoo!

Given up on books? Egads! If it's for a lack of something excellent to read, check our "Book Recommendations" thread. (On the "Main Thread" currently near the bottom of page 2). Sue Actually, it's mostly because I've got carpal tunnel and other nerve and muscle damage in my arms, and books are tricky things for me to hold without pain. I've got the latest Eye of the World volume on hold, and I'm saving my wrists for Perrin... Julia, my, my, that sounds dirty!

I don't think so. Buffy got a pass; y'know, she had a soul, she was the Slayer, okay to beat up the lovesick vampire, etc.
I don't think Buffy ever told Angel about the AR; good thing, too. [glow=brown,2,300]HAPPY TURKEY DAY!
Enjoy and be thankful!!![/glow]
GAIL Happy Thanksgiving back to you! I HOPE Buffy has reached the level of self awareness about her own contributory negligence in the AR (like, hey, if I broke up with a violent boyfriend and had a fool-proof way to keep him out of my house, I'd do it) and a level of maturity to see the whole soul quest as an indication it was not a pattern. If Xander hadn't wandered in, I doubt that anyone would have known about it, any more than the "other little nasties". WHICH reminds me- a fun little intellectual exersize is to take scenes from S6 and imagine how they would have played out if Xander had been thirty seconds later (the kitchen scene from "Gone" is particularly fun to play with). Julia, girding her loins for baking bread
