As you know, if you've been following the main board, I challenged Barbalurina to a poetry competition. She (brave, hardy, foolish soul) has accepted. I'm setting up this part for anyone else who wishes to enter.
The rules we've agreed on are as follows: There are no rules.
That is to say, any form of poetry is acceptable. This is an enduro, so there is no time limit. Other Scubie poets are welcome to participate.
I'm posting our first volleys here so you may catch up.
Come and see Rhymers we Lovers of Buffy and Serenity
Verbal play Join! This way! Poetry War begins today!

My Challenge to Barba:
To say she's loquacious is to say quite a lot About all things on-topic or not When Barba's around the lim'ricks all rhyme Well, I suppose, at least some of the time
Two Thousand posts is a feat, I'm not wrong for a Scubie who has not been here so long You're witty, you're cute, you're clever, you're fine And I am so glad you're a friend of mine.
Still, a challenge I'll throw for this occasion sweet And offer the "other" theatre Scubie a treat A Poetry duel between thee and me To see which Scubie the best rhymer be
The judges shall be the other Scubies around For you and I know many opinions abound Unless in the crowd there is one with no fear Who might want to join in the fun that is here!

Barba's Reply:
*feels leather glove slapped on face*
My first thought when reading was "Oh, man, no way Diane's a good writer, what else can I say?" Her fic was what brought me into this great place How can I think I can keep up the pace?
But then I thought, "Try it, if only for fun. We write, we laugh, and hey, look who has won." I'm not a judge of good poetry, it's true. So, I can accept this good challenge from you.
What are the rules, and what is the game? Do we have to write of a theme that's the same? Diane, here, I can already see, Is gonna be such a big challenge for me.
So, challenge away, I will write if I can A poem to present to our S'cubie Clan. But know, I only am doing this for fun, Professional writer, I am not one.
Thanks, Diane.

And my response:
An excercise only for fun not for gain And no, this was never intended to pain But just for laughs and a little give and take To keep our poetic muscles awake.
Who needs Rules? They're for sissies Certainly not two smart missies! But tit for tat, tat for tit Loser is the first one to quit
So unless you're of a different mind You can use poetry of any kind A lim'rick, a couplet, Sonnet, haiku We'll have 'em rolling before we're through
Subject's your own if you're willing to try, Here's my offer, The limit's the sky Length's not important, wit is much more so Pencils up, it's an ENDURO!

Here I am, Lady, no quitter I be Having just watched Firefly’s Serenity Mal, Jayne, and Simon, a manly good time, Right here and now I will think of a rhyme Mal is the captain and we love him so, More than when Nathan portrayed Caleb, yo. Jayne is a merc and he’s in for the dough, Often he says that the Tams ought to go. Simon’s a doc who is close to his sis Kaylee would like it if he’d give a kss. Those young, single guys of Serenity, wow Wonder what those guys are doing “right now”? Passing the baton, now, whomever might try To keep up the theme of those on Firefly Or not, there’s no hard or fast rule to this game Rhyming whatever will come just the same.

Your poem is wonderful and I'm impressed However the 'verse I've chosen's no less! Joss always has cast beautiful men He did it now and he did it then! Whendonverse lover it's true that I be Only just now meeting Serenity. ‘Tis now and forever to Buffy I cling For the men of that ‘verse are the very thing! Giles who brings joy to female masses Whenever he cleans those dirty glasses Who will stammer an order and always demand The best from those Scoobies he can’t understand And Xander who knows the truth from the lies A girl could get giddy from those chocolate eyes. Xander, whose courage exceeds his young years Who learned much too young how to face all his fears. Then there ‘s Angel who left love behind To go to LA and his destiny find. Though Buffy once swore to him she’d be true Once he knew she’d moved on, he did so too. Oh, the men of Sunnydale are sweet, there’s no doubt “But wait,” you cry, “You have left one out!” What man of the ‘Dale could we possibly forget? Was there one more I’ve not mentioned yet? In all the Whedonverse who melts us like butter? Whose simplest glance makes us blush and flutter? Why, the platinum one who still stalks the night The best of them all. Our beloved Spike!

Diane, that's impressive, SunnyD's men are great, But there is one more of his 'verses to date. Now let us go to the Whedonverse men in LA You've already mentioned Vamp Angel, okay. Who can leave out that great man with the mind Wesley, though hot, can do things that aren't kind From Buffy's Watcher to Angel's right hand He pretty much knew of demons on demand. Gunn was a fighter, who then fought with law He dusted his sister; his heart that did claw For a while he focused himself much on Fred And killed her old teacher by twisting his head. And finally here we remember the man Half human, half demon, told Angel he can Connect to the people he saved night by night Doyle, we miss you, first down in the Fight.

This poem contains a secret grim Now find the message hid within.Slipping stealthily through the night Peering purposefully, eyes alight Into inky blackness, dim Knowing evil lurks within Ends a hero, fighting wild Still, he’s only passion’s child When a fluke brings him back Is he just destiny’s flack? Loss is certainly no stranger Love he needs as much as danger Into battle he’ll run glad As he did when he was bad Many lives he took back then Those whose nature he did not ken Had he sensed what he knows now Every life he would allow But he’s changed for love of her Lady golden filled with power Only she, his fighting angel Once she saw how much he chang-ed Due, he thought, to his Slayer elf, Yet, in the end t’was for himself.

Secrets can be easily found. Puzzles can be now unwound. If eyes can see and Knives can cut Even a grave does not stay shut. In Sunnydale truths come out, Sunset brings the crier's shout. Men who have died Inhabit again Night's darkness as their sinful den. Eureka! All is known.
