Dude, I think your next post should include the words "I wonder if a million dollars will fall out of the sky and land at my feet..." HA! i thought similar things last night. ;D this episode broke my heart for poor dean: the montage of him, physically weak and silently crying at the end of the episode, saying he wasn't strong enough, was so visually and emotionally compelling. castiel questioning what he'd been told to do thus far and asking anna to tell him what to do instead reminded me of people i've known who've gone from zealously espousing/following one thing right on to zealously espousing/following something different when they drop the first thing. i liked that anna told him in response that it was time to start thinking for himself. and the reveal of uriel's true beliefs fit in quite well, i thought, with the things he'd said and ways he'd behaved in previous episodes. interesting that he wanted to get a demon to do his "dirty work" for him so that he could deny all responsibility for dean's death; it also explains, i think, why he kept acting over the season like he wanted to kill dean but never actually doing it. sam's "secret strength" was so many kinds of ew. when he went after dean, i kept thinking it was going to end so very badly for sam (i think i actually said to the screen, "sam, this is a really, really stupid plan") because of how he was using demon blood (ew, ew, ew) to amp up his powers and because people on the show seem to be as discomfited by the demony things sam does as viewers can be, and was really surprised that instead he ended up saving dean's life, keeping castiel down on earth (how interesting that demons can send angels back to heaven!), and killing alistair (to which i give a resounding YES!). it seemed like sam's general attitude this season of "the ends justify the means" actually sometimes works out on the show, at least temporarily. i still think the actress playing ruby sucks, though. i think i could keep blathering on about this episode for ages, but i'll stop here. ;D what did you all think? I pretty much agree with everything you've said, artemis! The revelation about what Sam is really getting from Ruby was a real eye-opener. She is gradually turning him to the dark side. ick It's going to be a brother vs brother showdown. Maybe an Anna/Ruby confrontation, too. *rubs hands in anticipation*

I pretty much agree with everything you've said, artemis! The revelation about what Sam is really getting from Ruby was a real eye-opener. not to mention just how powerful the demonblood combined with sam's psychic powers makes him - so powerful that he had no problem kicking alistair's butt when an angel (an angel!) was struggling, and ultimately failing, to do so. i can't tell whether he doesn't fully realize it or just doesn't care. eep! oh, i would love to see anna smack down ruby! ;D i know!! this episode made me so psyched for the rest of the season! i was so happy to have them return in full force to the myth arc.

Oh..good point - as to how really powerful Sam has become. To feel that sort of power, and to believe that you are working for the forces of good really feeds into the whole 'the ends justify the means' scenario. Right now, I think Sam thinks he can control whether or not his power leads him to the dark side. I am soooo curious as to what will need to be done to close the seal(s). If Dean is the only one who can do this, then how? Also - will we see Lucifer? He's got to be pissed that main angel-backer got offed. Will some other angel step up into his place now? Could that angel possibly be Anna? (Not hoping for it, but she is a bit of a mystery, isn't she?)

To feel that sort of power, and to believe that you are working for the forces of good really feeds into the whole 'the ends justify the means' scenario. definitely! yeah, i think you're right. the dark side is tricky like that. ;D yeah, me too! since uriel said he was the one in their specific garrison (is that the word they used?), i wondered, too, if maybe there were other angels in other 'garrisons' who were also backing lucifer. i continue to think that it's so interesting that the show has framed it with some angels having sympathy for humanity, some seeming to merely tolerate them for the 'greater good,' and some actively disliking them and trying to bring about their destruction. it adds another layer of complexity to the whole 'who's "good," who's "bad," etc.' thing that the show likes to play with.

Now this actor playing Allistair looks really familiar. Where do I know him from?

That was a great episode. The mood and production values, the guest characters, and the story. And nice little tribute to Kim Manners at the end.

OK, the actor who plays Allistair is on Sanctuary, so that's where I know him from. He was also in SGA but under wraith make up. Sorry, Artemis, but I'm really loving him, especially his voice. I liked the first actor who played him fine, but I'm loving this guy so much more.
I'm finding Castiel's developing crisis of faith really interesting. Eetah to your comments Artemis about Castiel wanting Anna to tell him what to do rather than trying to figure it out for himself.
The mood and production values for this episode were great. I always love a good psychological drama.

Dean has to stop the apocalypse. But no pressure or anything!

This episode was very entertaining. Hee.
Interesting. I was expecting the Trickster to be in on this thing. Maybe the Trickster is also an angel? Hmm.
Also, I was certain that this angel would turn out to be a dick since that actor always plays dick. But maybe he is since it's not certain which angels are on the up and up and which aren't. He did seem genuine though. Double hmm.

Sorry, Artemis, but I'm really loving him, especially his voice. I liked the first actor who played him fine, but I'm loving this guy so much more. no need to apologize! we all like different actors, and if i didn't find his voice grating i might have a different opinion of him anyway. me, too! thanks. i thought that was an especially nicely done segment as i do believe that's many peoples' first step towards thinking for themselves. i enjoyed it so much i watched it a second time!

This episode was very entertaining. Hee. i thought it was great, too! they've been bringing back so many old characters - such as tessa last episode, and the ghostbusters in this one. ;D i guess i benefited from only vaguely remembering the actor - knowing i'd seen him before but not remembering where i saw him. yes, we can't know, can we? and i think that's a nifty development, personally. i thought this episode was very nicely done. i thought it was interesting that sam was the one who had the dreams (or at least consciously remembered them and/or admitted to having them) and that he laughed and mocked the idea that he was a psychic (when in reality, possibly that's what was giving him the dreams!). i didn't entirely follow why the ghost picked the people he did, but that part didn't really seem to matter too much anyhow. i also thought the larger point was interesting - that sometimes there are things we're thrown into, but sometimes there are things we only believe we were thrown into when in reality we would end up doing them no matter which path led us there. they have been throwing a lot of psychology at us in the last couple of episodes, hmm? ;D
