Oh! And I think that Ellie Blond Chick is Mrs. Hawking/Mostly Likely Daniel's Mom.

Her manner changed immediately. at hearing his name. Yep, woman in the picture. And Theresa's unstuck in time like Desmond was, once. Widmore paid for Faraday's research. And paid to take care of Theresa afterwards. Great. And back on the island.. Silly woman. He said it because he meant it and it was the first thing he thought of. So Richard is briefing him on what happened with the Americans. So Felicity is named Ellie. The old man is a better tracker than you are, Jones. And Locke just keeps bringing the Crazy after the Crazy. So how will Juliet decide? Ellie is the reincarnation of Theresa? Or vice-versa? And she is grumpy and twitchy. Whee! Bomb! Juliet is totally going with Sawyer. I mean, a choice between spending quality time with him or with Locke? Please—no contest. Given those options, even I would go with Sawyer.

So Jughead is the name of the bomb. So how unsafe is this bomb? "Bury it and it won't go off" Why so? Gotta go and bring up the crazy time-travel crap. And it seems to really REALLY bother her. So Sawyer talks her into going on a rescue mission. I suppose the bomb does look like it's wearing a beanie.Heh. "you TOLD her?" DESMOND. THIS IS NOT "keeping a low profile"!!!! DUDE! Desi, you aren't hard enough to play with Widmore. Run, Desmond, run, run, run run.. whoa... he's actually acting like a man caring about his daughter here. Up is Down, East is West. jonesy there is rather twitchy. So this is before Richard ever has met him. Interesting. "Jacob sent me" is the password. Well, HI there, Charles! Boy, this sure explains everything, doesn't it?!? Well, in a limited sort of way, I mean. for values where "everything"="nothing at all"

My lj post about Lost: What a trip that was. I had to rewatch some stuff this morning just to be sure I actually understood everything which I don't of course but still. Lots of great moments. On to my Lost list. Things I loved: 1. Desmond and Penny together. I adore this ship. Adore. 2. They named their adorable child Charlie. Awwww. 3. The reveal of Widmore on the Island. Wow. Awesome. 4. Speaking Latin. Others 101. I love Juliette. 5. Sawyer. 6. Desmond not telling Widmore anything. Nice. 7. Richard. One creepy guy. But awesome. Things I'm confused about: 1. So Ellie = Eloise Hawking = Daniel's Mother? Is that right? 2. I'm a little confused over who was on the bed. I think I might have nodded off a bit during that. Is this the girl Daniel was doing experiments on? Is this Theresa? 3. Who exactly is dead now? Are people like Rose and Bernard dead? I didn't miss the six at all. Well I never miss Jack and Kate but I thought I might miss getting more input on Hurley/Ben. But this episode just perked right along. Anyway, I need to go read some theories and summaries and have someone explain all the parts I'm confused on. But kudos to Lost for another great episode. Is Mrs. Hawking's first name Eloise? Then Ellie must be her then, I think. Oh, yeah, Daniel was doing experiments on Teresa. And it was odd that Rose and Bernard were unaccounted for. Huh.

From Doc Jensen of EW: My “Arrow” Theory. Adam mentioned this in his recap. Have you noticed the recurring arrow symbolism this season? Episode 1: Pierre Chang produces the orientation film for a Dharma station called “The Arrow.” Episode 2: The Left Behinders are attacked by flaming arrows. And now, Episode 3: Arrows everywhere, in the text (see: the Others’ archery brigade) and the subtext. A leaking or missing hydrogen bomb is known as a “Broken Arrow” event in military parlance. In physics, the “Arrow of Time” is the name of a body of theories pertaining to the nature of time; the term “broken arrow” is used to characterize an idea like time loops. Google “broken arrow” and you’ll get any number of movies, TV shows and songs about Native Americans… and wouldn’t you know, “Jughead” was a peek into the past of the Island’s indigenous peeps, the Others. But the coolest arrow connection comes via the Other cutie with the shot gun, British accent, and terse line readings: Ellie. Short for Eleanor, which is French for “the Other.” (Or so wikipedia tells me; I don’t speak it. Me stupid American.) On a whim, I combined “Ellie” and “Eleanor” and “Arrow,” and came back with an awesome connection: Ellie Arroway, the heroine of Carl Sagan’s novel Contact, which was adapted into the Jodie Foster film of the same name. I’m going to leave it to you to explore the significance, but Sagan’s story certainly resonates with Lost themes, and perhaps functions as a clue to wormhole theory. Wow...

So I guess The Others were behind the flaming arrow attack. But why flaming arrows? Maybe they just have a flair for the dramatic?

Plural: Les Autres. I'm not sure what he meant here.

Shipperx in ljland has reminded me that Daniel named the rat he was running experiments on Eloise, which is also Mrs. Hawkings/Most Likely His Mother's name.

Also, wrt Teresa, I suddenly remembered that rhyme or whatever of Booth's "Teresa falls down the stairs/Teresa falls up the stairs." Or something like that. Don't know if that means anything.
Also, I like that Desmond's son is named after Charlie, but anyone who doesn't know would just assumed that he's named after Widmore.

I thought this episode showed interesting contrast between the Others the present and the past. It would appear that they were more straightforward in the past, making it clear to the military folk (as opposed to telling the Losties that the island belongs to them but making no attempt to help the Losties leave) and they were suspicious of the Losties in this episode, but they were also willing to share information and cooperate with them rather than mindfucking with them. They also weren't aware of any time warping aspects of the island, which is curious. In the past, The Others seem to have had a great deal of integrity and in the present they are way more duplicitous and convoluted and it makes me wonder whether that is solely due to Ben or a long series of events (like DHARMA), that deteriorated their position. Perhaps the Others, like our various protagonists, had also lost their way.
Also, I found it interesting that Juliet referred to The Others as The Others. Do The Others actually refer to themselves as The Others? Wouldn't they call themselves something else?

The island and off-island stories were really nicely paced and intertwined - made them exciting and funny and full of info.

Part III Back in Oxford. Desmond tries to go for incognito and ends up looking preppy. He really did, didn't he? That's my thinking too. ;D Mysterious and pretty. How could anyone not be interested in him, I'm thinking.

Oh I get it! There are Others. And Other Others. And Dharma-ites. And the army. And some stranded scientists. And the left-behind plane-folk. And the Clan of the Teddy Bear. And the bears - can't forget about the bears. But in all seriousness, I like this layering over time of different groups of people trying to control the island and becoming absorbed by it. Me too. And it's so cool how the timelines are intermingling and crossing now.
