Awesome wonderful episode. The never hit a false note. Never. And assassin-Sayid in the black leather with the swagger.... ummmmummm... Wasn't really dead or magically resurrect because of the island, maybe? That would really help him get a leadership role with the hostiles . . . Or maybe time is changed now and we're heading off into a parallel universe where Ben died as a kid? I am pretty sure Young Ben's death is the first actual (possible) time paradox situation the writers have presented to us. Until now, everything could have been explained as part of a "closed loop." As Faraday said, (paraphrasing), "You can't change anything. Whatever happened will happen." So either Young Ben isn't dead, (gun had blanks?), Young Ben resurrects, or a parallel universe begins without FutureBen. Which would mean massive changes to all aspects of the timeline, to the point where I don't think the writers could deal with the unwieldy story. So I'm going with the idea that Young Ben is not dead dead. Somehow. I think you are right that this is the first potential true paradox. Which leads me to also think that Bitty-Ben is either not dead or we're heading into true AU territory. Now, a truly AU timeline would be fascinating as all hell, too . . . Hell, it's even possible that the whole show could be the product of an unreliable narrator . . . although that is somewhat scary to think about, eh?

An interesting tidbit: In Moscow, when Sayid exits the building after killing his last target we see this sign over the door: According to Lostpedia that writing, "Олдхэм Фармасьютикалс," in English reads as "Oldham Pharmaceuticals." And Oldham, of course, was the name of the guy who used drugs to get the truth from Sayid. God I love the details on this show!!!!!

I know , I mean, who actually thinks , we should put this on the window? I will say I sat here for about 5 minutes with my mouth wide open after Sayid shot Little Ben. That doesn't happen too often, (even with this show) I can't wait for the result of this.

Though that particular theory was pooh poohed over at the Lostpedia theory page. BTW - I usually get around to reading the episode summary at Lostpedia, especially the trivia info, but I rarely follow the link to the theories page, because, well, for so damn long there were so damn many theories... But as we get closer to the end, and with the "Sayid shoots Ben" scene, I ventured in. Holy hellacious wow. Good stuff here if you don't often check it out... lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/He%27s_Our_You/Theories

Others have died on the island, and stayed dead though. The question is, whats the difference between those who resurrect and those who stay dead? Yeah, but Locke didn't die on the Island: he died in Los Angeles. And Christian, who's the only other person I can think of who seems to have been resurrected on the Island, died in Australia. Right now, I'm honestly not remembering seeing anyone die on the Island and then come back to life—who was it that you were thinking of? That's true. Mostly I was thinking of Mikhail, who may have been resurrected or may have just gotten lucky several times. Also, it's not clear whether Richard is immortal or whether he's just got eternal youth.

This is the detective that took him in, isn't it? So, is this how she nabs him? "I'm between jobs at the moment." Ha! ;D "The only thing I was ever good at." Oh, Sayid. No! Oh my. Drugged up Sayid? Very lovely. Drugged up, tied up Sayid saying things like "I am a bad man"? Very very lovely. Do you want me to punish you, Sayid? Do you want Sawyer to punish you? **goes off to very very innapropriate fantasy land** Ahem. Ok. I'm back. So - we're questioning him and he's totally spilling his guts and freaking them all out by knowing the name of the yet to be built stuff and scaring Sawyer by naming him only they're to dumb to pick up on it. Check! "Because I am from the future." "Maybe I should have used half a dropper. Oops." Heeeeeeee!! Juliet and Kate working in the motor pool together. Awk-ward! Good point, Sawyer. Since when did you start acting "like them"? Call in "Arbor"? And this is a "them"? Who them?!Ah yes. Think of the children! Since the hostiles are so dangerous, why weren't you thinking of the children before this? "I would really like to say it's unanimous." Nice democracy, dude. Also? Sawyer, noooooooo!! Ann Arbor. Where University of Michigan is. Where I presume the head honchos who run the DHARMA Initiative are. I can;t speak for Spring, but there I was watching and worried about what the dreaded Wolverines Dharma Initiative was up to now. ;D leftylady

You know, I was thinking. We were all speculating that Miles was Dr. Chang's son right? Well, if that's the case, the Miles would recognize his parents now that he's back in the past.
ETA: Or maybe he wouldn't if he was made an orphan at a very young age. Hmm.

Rewatching, I was struck by the parallels between Sayid and Jesus. Falsely accused, refusing to defend himself (even with similar wording "I do not call myself a Hostile..." ~ "it's you who say I am..."), virtually abandoned by his friends, being denied as least three times by Peter Sawyer, and the court "unanimously" voting to put him to death based on scant little evidence. He even prophesized and was tied in a pseudo crucifix position during the drug interrogation scene.

And don't forget the general visual images with Sayid's long dark hair and very dark background - like Renaissance religious paintings. - Reminded me of some of BSG's photographic treatment of Baltar in court (end of season 3?) which also evoked similar Christ-like images. leftylady
