I wonder if he's still detoxing. From EW's Jeff "Doc" Jensen:Fox describes Jack's journey on Lost like this: ''We set him up to be a hero in the eyes of people on the island — they needed that — but he really wasn't that, or he felt like he couldn't be that. And so we broke him down to where he was desperately trying to hold onto the idea that he can control his reality, that logic and reason and science are the real dictators of the world, not fate and magic. He then felt like his only way out was to take his own life. Failing that, he then moved to a place where he was finally forced to consider that he was probably wrong, that probably Locke was right, and probably the only way he can find any redemption or any salvation in this universe is to go back to the very place that he tried to leave and get back to whatever fated destiny that place has for him. Playing that has been a pretty extraordinary opportunity. A f---ing challenge the whole way through, but it's been really cool experience.''
I asked Fox to describe the state of Jack as we currently find him at this point of the season, and his answer speaks to the quiet, patient, humbled hero that has returned to the Island. ''Coming back to the Island, he gains strength just by being in its proximity,'' he explained. ''I've always believed part of what was destroying him was his actual lack of physical proximity to the Island. He is fated to do something on the Island, but in fighting to get away from that, the Island was destroying him from afar. Now, he's wide-eyed and alert and watching for his destiny. He doesn't have any idea how he's going to know it, or when he's going to know it. But when the moment comes, he will realize he's in the path of his own destiny. And when he's clicked into it, he can start taking action without over-dictating, without trying to control his reality, to just do what it is he's meant to do.''Hmm. That makes sense.

"Auntie Kate!" suggests that they become friends. I find that.. sweet. Well, he needed her, too, ya silly woman. "Why are you helping Ben" who is right there listening. I have just melted into a puddle of goo at Sawyer and "I'm doing it for her" HAH! "You guys leave" And this, with Juliet in the shower with Jack? is the awesome. "We've been fine for three years" were y'all planning on buggering out before the exctinction? "Came back because I was supposed to" Wonder what that means. So does he. So Sawyer goes on to find out about Clementine and Cassidy. So Cassidy was actually right, holy crap. "You and me never woulda worked out" She mentions Juliet. "Done a lot of growing up" Whee! conversation tabling in the form of rifles! So what is Richard supposed to do? Use his mystical System Lord sarcophagous to heal the boy? OMG, a System Lord! Yes, that is totally what Richard should be!!!! Works for me, LOL! I can sooooo see Richard as Apophis' younger, smarter brother.
I think Richard and/or Jacob will call up the smoke monster to heal instead of kill, but will turn Little Ben into a nasty kid in the process...

[Insert preferred deity/higher power here] knows there's every chance I'll be proven wrong by the end of the season, but for now I'd like to say how very happy I am that it appears the Lost folks have little interest in resurrecting the Jack/Kate/Sawyer/Juliet quadrangle.
In fact, in what I consider a most refreshing change of pace as far as t.v. dramas go, so far everyone's been behaving like actual grown-ups: Sawyer's made it clear where his affections lie, Kate's shown no desire to get between Sawyer and Juliet, Juliet hasn't been acting like a jealous and/or insecure shrew, and Jack hasn't been possessive or resentful when Kate's mentioned or discussed Sawyer.
Most important, it looks like Kate's return to the Island had absolutely nothing to do with any lingering feelings for Sawyer—or Jack, for that matter. Instead of going back for the sake of a romantic love, she was motivated by a different sort of love altogether. To me, that's just plain awesome.

Man, Hurley rocks.
Ben HAD to have known that Sayid would shoot him. Maybe that needed to happen.
Halfway through the ep.
Sawyer is going to help Kate. Of course. But he's doing it for Juliet.
ooooo...Juliet is pissed off. Jack is about to get his.
ah....Jack finally got some faith. He just doesn't know what or why he came back...just that he knew he had to.
Sawyer grew up in the past 3 years and admitted to Kate that he wasn't fit to be a dad or a boyfriend in the past/future.
I think Kate is about to grow up, too. She is telling Claire's mom that Claire is alive.
Ah..that is why Ben doesn't remember being shot by Sayid.
And there is John and Ben - together again.

39 years from now. You're gonna beg me to operate on him. I've already done this. Oooooh. Before, I spent all my time trying to fix things. Maybe the island wants to take care of things. Ha! Doesn't like the new him, didn't like the old him. Well, it's true. "We were engaged. Does that count?" ;D Well, least bad-daddy knows he's a sucky dad. OMG, Kate and Linus Sr could become all cosy and KATE COULD BECOME BENRY'S NEW MOMMY!! It could so totally be a storyline!!! Ha ha ha ha!! "Let me get this straight. All this already happened." "Yes!" So, this conversation we're having right now, we already had it?" "Yes!" "Then what am I gonna say next?" "I don't know." "Ha!" "Shoot me, please." "Huh. I hadn't thought of that." It's like they're acting out what everyone who watches the show is thinking. ;D ;D Ooooh, "maybe there's something they can do - the Others". Now, are we talking Hostiles!Others, or Other!Others? They WERE acting out what the viewers are thinking.

A couple of points I haven't had the time to post:
Ok, we see Kate go to Carole Littleton and leave Aaron in the motel room. But Kate arriving at Jack's and her distraught - "Never ask me about Aaron again" doesn't make sense if she is really going back to find Claire, particularly with Jack's relationship to the child.
We know that Aaron is Jack's nephew but does Kate? It's never been clear if Kate overheard the news at the funeral. Certainly we have never heard Jack or Kate use the words uncle or nephew or sister-Claire so what is the truth here? The writers have left this so open for debate.
And Kate really spilled the beans about the real Island story and Aaron's origins to Casey and then again to Carole. Will there be repercussions? Casey was a con artist - will she betray Kate in some way if the stakes are high enough?
We are seeing what happened from the pier to the airport in bits and pieces, character view by character view. At this point are we missing anything? Anything in particular about the Aaron story? Kate's demeanor at Jack's makes me think there is more here that we still haven't seen.

Even if she thought there was a possibility that she would see Aaron again, she didn't know when and at any rate, he would no longer be "hers." She went to Jack to help fill the hole in her heart. I got the impression that Cassidy was genuinely Kate's confidant and that she wouldn't say anything. Considering how Kate sort of dumped everything on Carole at once, I do think it's possible that she might dig around a little and make some waves.

She knew. If she knew that Aaron was Carole Littleton's grandson (as her remarks in "The Little Prince" made clear), then she knew that Jack was his uncle. She didn't care. She wanted Aaron for herself, until Clementine made her see the light.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that nothing really came from the Kate/Aaron storyline, except that it gave the producers a reason to maintain the Kate character after Season 3. I thought her character was going no where. I guess they must have thought the same and so decided to have Kate pretend to be Aaron's mother off island. But that plotline went no where. Kate never suffered the consequences of her actions, just as she never really suffered the consequences of her other actions - murder, attempted robbery, etc. It just went no where.
