Battenkill? Did we have Dutch settlers early on in Vermont? Some New Yorkers whose asses Ethan and Ira Allen didn't kick? Actually, I don't think anyone's quite certain as to how the river got its name; the historical records are pretty fuzzy. So it could have been one of those Dutch settlers living in New Amsterdam.

1/4th mile? That IS close. When you think of it dropping from the sky . . . wow. Extremely close. Sorry to hear about the fatalities, but very glad it wasn't any closer to you. So very, very glad our Monnie is safe. Ditto, absolutely. It's sad about the fatalities, though. *sigh*

Sorry guys. Didn't mean to go all MIA for nearly 3 days. My computer got infected and shut down. A church friend who is a professional IT person came today and got me back online for now. But now I have to go fix dinner as everything I've touched today has taken 3 times as long to compete as expected -- in other words, life as usual. And, Monday night TV to look forward to! It is amazing how totally cut off one feels when one's computer is down (and no branch libraries open on Sunday or MLK day even so really no alternatives). On the other hand -- lots of household and paperwork chores got done! Glad you're back and the computer is all fixed up.

Thank you, I needed that. Heh. Two inches of rain so far, and more on the way. Altadena got three, but then, they're near the foothills. I hope the forecast for tomorrow is correct, and there won't be much rain in the morning. I have cats to drag to the veterinary dentist. I heard it was raining cats and dogs over there. Hang in there.

"Percussive maintenance." Hee! "24". There's a bit of funny in it this year. I missed last year, but I don't think it's all that necessary to have watched it to follow the story this year. Onjel/Matthew/anyone else watching? Katie Sackoff, Chris Diamantopoulos and Anil Kapoor (from Slumdog Millionaire - love his accent!) I'm watching half-heartedly. I was a bit bored last night. Maybe I have to watch a few episodes to get into it. I do love me some Katie Sackoff, though. And, isn't that SMG's husband playing young Ortiz? He's grown into his face. I am tempted by the hotness that is Katie S, but at the same time I have too much TV as it is to keep up on.

Or I should say Mrs. SMP. Didn't I read somewhere where he's Jack's heir-apparent?

Um, a small plane just crashed in a subdivision about 1/4 mile down the road from where I work. Holy hell. Not that that's really all that surprising, given that the airport is about 2 1/2 miles from here, but still. That was a close one. They're saying the two people on board didn't survive. ETA: News station website1/4th mile? That IS close. When you think of it dropping from the sky . . . wow. Extremely close. Sorry to hear about the fatalities, but very glad it wasn't any closer to you. Too damn close. {{{Monnie}}}

Onjel/Matthew/anyone else watching? Katie Sackoff, Chris Diamantopoulos and Anil Kapoor (from Slumdog Millionaire - love his accent!) 4 hours down, 20 to go. Only thing you need to take away from last year is that Renee was a by the book FBI agent when Jack got ahold of her and by the end of that day .... well, if you watched tonight's ep let's just say that she is very much Dr. Jack FrankenBauerStein's creation. Also --- really loved all those moral high choices tonight: Especially the I.R. Pres admitting to his affair. And Brian Hastings (head of CTU) apologizing to Chloe and praising her. And Freddie Prinze Jr. saying over the phone that he was with the bad guy, even though he knew it would get him killed. And I think there was even one more. But, boy howdy, 24 has the MOST dysfunctional stab you in the back (or front) families! Always a traitor.

Hey - I forgot to tell you guys! Saturday night at the orchestra was very fun! A showing of The Wizard of Oz with the musicians providing a live score. Very cool! We went to the Nashville Pops show on Sat. Guests artists were the Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans. The back-up conductor for the NV Orch puts me in mind of Jimmy Durante. He was rocking the tambourine at one point and then the crowd (median age over 60) went WILD we he sang a couple of verses of "When the Saints," all while directing the orchestra in his white tux.
